  • Hey, theres no sound!!! ;)

  • Props for surfing pretty well while being deaf. I know it messes with your balance a lot. Heck, i hate just wearing ear plugs. I need to hear every little thing going on while surfing or it throws me off a bit. Looks like a fun church's day for longboarding, i love this place.

  • too small waves!

  • I just wanted to say thanks to Paul for being a left handed signer! Everyone looks at me like I'm nuts when I start to sign or fingerspell because I'm the only "lefty" in our group and I've never seen many more "leftys". YEA!

  • I'm from Camp Pendleton, is a nice beach

  • By the way JOhn,there are two videos by deaf surfers in Spain here in YouTube.I communicated with him in Spanish and he writes back, great guy bald.Great Surf in Cantabria,Spain. You can search "Sordo Surf" might find it.Use "Google Translator" to communicate in Spanish with him.Spanish signs very similar to ASL except fingerspelling.I have seen other deaf surfers around the world.Japan and Ingland.Nice saying hi,to you again.

  • I surfed at camp pendleton and my wife filmed me, but she was kindly asked by an MP to stop filming (the surf was really good too) don't know how you were able to film but it's a good video

  • YEA,I just realized that. You mean, they let you surfs at Tresels? In my time (1968)we use to have to come by boat and if we loose our boards and the marines where on the shore. They use to take it? The marines gotten more tolerants of long hair hippy surfers?

  • haha.. yeah.. same place where Marines bother surfer dudes in the past! Today, they leave surfers alone. As long surfers don't do any stupid!

  • Do surfers still call it TRESELS? I am now in Miami, but I remember SURFER magazine doing stories about the marines taking boards away. I notice you were walking throught the sand. I did not pick up on that until a few weeks later. We were ridign 9 to 12 foot boards.

  • It's called Trestle and Lower and upper Trestle. Longboard is sweet ride!

  • Well I could never spell anyway, and much worst I can spell a place I couldn't surf. We did hot have a sign saying "Surf Here at Trestle" At that time I was riding. I had 9'6" Ocean Pacific board, then went down to a 7'2 Bing Vincent so you know how far back I go. I have since continue surf East Coast of Florida, Puerto Rico and just resently found Puerto Escondido Oaxaca(it is said Uajaca) Mexico.Check the place out in YouTube o Movie Absolute Mexico.Waves in the 30' in July.

  • Iwas at Trestle once only,it was just a little bigger than4foot waves. They are perfect for long boads.Usually surfed sand bottom Malibu Beach by pier.Or Cartif by the Sear,La Jolla rock plates bottom.Tresels is sand??I cant remember touching or looking at the bottom, that was summer 1969.Pueto Escondido,Mexico was semi-sharp coral rock bottom, very dangerous to hit bottom with head or shoulder.Big Ass Waves in summer,July 30',they get winter swells from South America which is Winter down there.

  • Yup. From North To South it's Cotton's Point, Upper Trestles, Lower Trestles, Church..then down at San Onofre it's The Point and Old Mans.

My father has great stories about sneaking into Church and Lower Trestles through the lagoon or the fields but....

  • The days of sneaking in are gone, ever since Reagan made San Onofre into a state park that extends from the power plant to the OC/SD county line. Camp Pendleton technically has a swath of land about a half mile wide that comes down to the water, but below the mean high tide line for all practical purposes it's part of the State Park.

  • I've never heard of them telling people not to take pictures or film these days if you're on the beach. In fact I'm waiting to get some pictures a guy took of me surfing Church a while back. I suppose if you went up to the picnic area just South of Church that would be another story though.

  • I haven't heard of the marines running anyone off below the mean high tide line, or tell people not to film. In fact the park rangers patrol the beach, not the Marines. I could see the marines giving people grief if you went up to the picnic area though.

  • Deaf Surfers? you are making history!!! We just got to go surfing together. Check out Puerto Escondido in Mexico.

  • Did the Marines run ya off ??? LOL

  • nice surf

  • post more deaf surf videos please XD
