@math101a Yes. But if you already have it cranked and then pump more gain into it with a pedal the amp will over compress. Over compression is a sound you have to experience. I can't explain what it sounds like, I guess the nearest I can get is as if every note you play is produced at the same volume (pick attack means nothing when over compressed) and sustain lasts years for each and every note. Some people love it and some hate it. I'm a lover but it sounds BOLLOCKS for chords :D
@guitarlordification Cheers mate! Yeah was a lovely amp! Got it for just on 2k at the time. It was one of the first years they made the JTM45 reissues, so i was pretty happy price wise haha. Cheers, yeah I love Gretsch's, though I love Fenders also, and I've got some big love for SG's and Les Paul Juniors too! Take it easy mate! :)
Hey man, love the video. i have just ordered a Black Falcon with filtertrons. How to you find the Falcon for Blues? can you get a nice Gibson ES-335 type tone? I know that's a strange question, but I'm on the fence as to whether a 335 might better serve me.
@8x26x08 Depends, if your more concerned bout a sparkly clean that breaks up nicely into creamy overdrive, I'd go a 45. I think the 1987s are better for a tighter, more aggressive tone. Solid stake rectifier in the 1987 feels quite different to the valve JTM's. Lame I know, but I'd be happy with either. More headroom with the 1987 but. I'd do yourself a favour though and get a hand wired clone of either for cheaper!
@pabldpozo Thanks man! English is fine ;) Well the original pickups were great, but for the sound I was going for, they were just a little lacking in the midrange. That's why I put the filtertrons in. I've got the TV Jones Classics in it now though. So yeah, the Dynasonics are great, but they just weren't QUITE what I needed I guess :)
@cstrombeck They're Celestion Super 65's mate. It's one of those Kustom 4X12's with the basketweave type grille cloth. Cheap as, but I don't mind the sound of it. Hankering for a Marshal 1960TV with greenbacks though!
could it be that the older gretsch white falcon guitar (of Malcom Young for example) is much bigger than the White Falcon guitars which gretsch produced today?
I think the new White Falcon (the G6136T for example) looks much smaller on photos... or have they still the same size?
@kjeqc Hehe, nah the one's they're making now are to exact vintage specs, in regards to body size anyway. Always been 17 inches across the lower bout. I think what you may be seeing is just the guitar looking huge on Malcolm Young, who's 5' 3" lol. I'm about 6' 3" so it maybe looks a bit smaller perhaps?
@Jake251292 Hey man, sorry for taking so long! Hard to describe really, it is loud for sure, probably plenty loud enough for most venues just on its own. Only thing I found was that it didn't have a great deal of headroom. Problem being I'd have my rhythm tone set up nicely, but there wasn't a lot of room to move for solos, it just compressed more kinda. That's why I ended up getting a JMP. Still, it was a killer sounding amp!
Hey man, yeah cos it had the Dynasonic p'ups beforehand, had to do have a little routing done, which unfotunately was botched by the tech :( routed for Gibson style p'ups...long story! But you can't notice it. I ended up putting classics in there and mounting them like Gretsch do for trestle bracing. PM me if you want more details. Other mods...TV Jones harness and a Bigsby aluminium bridge. BIg tone improvement from that one. All up I reckon it would've been around the 3-400 mark for mods.
You'll get it with a JCM, you would have more luck with a Wizard Modern Classic. nice work but man, i love Gretsch's Mostly WhiteFalcons as you may have gathered from the name..
*UPDATE* The JTM's been replaced by a Ceriatone JMP Plexi clone and I've swapped out the pickups for TV Jones Classics. Sounds unreal! Will try post a clip soon :)
Hell yeah man, Malcolm's tone is what I try base mine around :) I use 10-54s so the bottom strings have got a bit of beef to them. Used to use a full 12-54 set, but it just felt like it was killing the airiness of it somehow. Intelligent description I know haha.
Hey man cheers! It's just a Kustom 4x12, which has Celestion Super 65's in it. Not exactly ideal, but it sounds pretty good anyway :) Hail Hail Rock n Roll!
hey mate nice playing. the powertrons sound very nice, i ended up getting tv classics for my two gretsches but wouldnt mind trying out the powertrons. do you think the THD hotplate is worth buying? im pretty tempted to buy one
Cheers mate, yeah was really digging the powertrons and JTM-45 combination. I'm kinda thinking about swapping them for some supertrons, powertrons are great, but would just like a bit more twang I think. I think the powertrons would be fantastic in a solidbody though, probably going to put them in a tele I think.
As for the hotplate, it's pretty good at what it does, though I find it's best to attenuate as little as possible. What amp are you running mate? Maybe check out weber attenuators too!
Yeah man the combo sounds great. Yeah i havent really heard much sounds of supertrons but im sure cheney has used them at one point or another. but the classics are also amazing i love them, but then again all the TV jones pickups are fantastic he really does a good job.
as for my amp ive only got a pretty standard marshall 100HDFX but it does the job pretty well for me, i only use the clean channel and run my pedals through it though cos i dont really like the distortion channel.
Hey dude, yeah was just using a THD Hotplate. It was still pretty load in my rom though man haha. Probably a bit cleaner than you might think too, just got that Gretsch growl going on too.
check out ceriatones webb sight .. they custom make clones of most sought after amps. i just recieved my jtm45 clone, the craftmenship far exceeds most other manufactures. it is point to point and hand built for about a third what marshall wants.
Could you drive this amp into a more dirty sound using pedals? For example like the plexitone pedal?

Cheers dude! Yeah that was just straight into the top bright channel, on the -8dB setting on the hotplate. No pedals!
They do go pretty loud, plenty enough for a band with a 4X12, but they don;t stay clean for too long! Great amp!
