You have to throw away your feelings for humans if you are to like this show. When watching the show i feel nothing for those they kill, even when he shot the little boy and his mom it didn't affect me at all because you will come to hate the show if you still have sympathy for humans.

@ateela15 I think that is the opposite of what i took away from the show... however, my emotions have already been numbed since watching Death Note and Monster. If I hadn't watched those already, I think Requiem for the Phantom would have really fucked my mind up.

hmmmmm an emotional anime thats similar to phantom that is not listed yet ...12 kingdoms (i think thats the name) is somewhat similar since both of the main characters are kinda forced into fighting. oh ya Gantz is excellent emotional anime if you actually watch the whole thing. So basically Jūni Kokuki (also known as 12 kingdoms) ,gantz,,Escaflowne, kemonozume, and hmmmm kemono no souja erin (i think thats spelled right) are good as well.

Yknow, Im not gonnna lie though. Although this is one of my favorite Anime of all time, I was so irritated by the fact that these two weren't really love interests, the entire first season gave you that feel then the second they're suddenly living normal lives and that little part was stupid. Fucked the whole thing for me for a while, thankfully the ending left an element of mystique but that was irritating too. That first season, those first 12 episodes were just perfect. Wish there was more.

@dstewara How do you know they weren't in love? Anyway I think their relationship went beyond a typical romance. They may not have been in love, but they relied on each other. They needed each other to survive. And that's all they wanted to do... just survive. And how can two utterly broken people be worrying about romance anyway?

@dstewara I have to agree with you. The third story arc just seemed like some attempt to bring some classic high school slice of life to the series. It just seemed out of place for this very serious and dark anime. Also I felt as though they never seemed to age. One would thing they would not have been able to pass as high schoolers considering how old Cal got, but I love this anime to much to even address the ridiculous growth hormones that seemed to hit Cal.

@ZEEBOTDOT Darker than Black is pretty heavy stuff. I highly recommend, it's alot, if not almost identical to this series. I do not know about anyone else, but, it is by far my most favorite show I have ever watched, and will probably ever watch. It moves you in a way that is nearly indescribable. Yin, Yin in that show is just, something else entirely.

Sounds like you've been watching them on netflix. haha. Darker than Black was surely my favorite, Speed Grapher and Phantom tied for second. Haven't seen the other two but i'm starting on gunslinger girl, I really recommend Spice and Wolf if you get the chance.

@DiamondbackCobra I'm strugling to find some myself to be honest. I've heard Ergo Proxy is good, if you haven't seen elfen lied you'll either love it or hate it. I thought it was depressing as hell but its talked about so much in the anime community that I'd still consider it a must see.

@DiamondbackCobra I personally loved that they weren't romantically involved.. It was more a sibling relationship, or... very close friend, as much as that's possible for them. A love interest would've taken away from the connection they shared, and reduced it to a base form of drama. : /
