He definately died. Zira cried and killed all of the Hyenas. That's what made her so angry. Besides, why would he stay away from his love if he was dead?
You know why he's in Hercules. In The Lion King Zazu says and I'm quoting it exactly "He'd make a very handsome throw rug" and that's exactly what he became.

Zazu was in the movie and something about Pumbaa in Aladin so I do hope they make a Lion King 4 with Scar returning because the way Mufasa was in the 2nd
film he was in spirit Scar was in a dream / vision so he's still out there .
We saw this in school today and when we saw this bit me and my mate were shouting oh my god it's scar!!!!

in the movie Lion King which came out in June 1994 we saw Scar from the
beginning - " end " I think he escaped from the Hyenas & in the
tv show Timon and Pumbaa he was shown while Zazu was emptying his trash can in 9/23/1996 & when Pumbaa lost his memory which also came out in
1996 , Hercules was out in 1997 but Zira and others from LK2 appeared in
October 1998 so I think Scar faked his death to leave Zira so say hello to LK4 .
