my friend is selling his because he doesn't know how to use it is not very user friendly i have the TI voyage 200 and i just love how easy it is to use
what do you think? the HP 50G or the TI-89 Titanium. I have never used the 50G, but the TI-89 is awesome. I mean, it diferentiates, integrates(definite and indefinite integrals), solves almost any kind of equations, is programable, graphs in like 4 diff types of coordinates, does matrix calculations, complex analisys, the only thing it doesn't do is dance. Anyone here has used both?
I really don't know what calculator to buy.. I would like the graph features of the 50G, but the new 35s just looks WAY better, and i like that it's a bit more simple, and therefore faster for normal caclulations which i do the most. But will programs like mathcad do graphs as easy as the 50g? or is there any other program that can do the graphs as good? because i don't think im going to use it a lot, so i can easily live with doing the graphs on my laptop.
Thanks for the tip, SGD. Unfortunately I don't use an iPhone. (I have a Nokia.) My wife does, but the only kind of calculator she uses is the basic four-function type. Besides, I'd rather have the buttons and months or years of batterty life, but on the plus side, if I were carrying an iPhone I'd always have a really good calculator with me, and THAT'S a handy thing.
The HP-28S is a HP Calculator not a smart phone. HP-28S has a longer battery life (2 years), better tactile keyboard, better key position but does not cater to The highschool student. It is an eng/phy calculator. Yes it is RPN/LISP. Most functions take longer to key in on the 50g than on the 28s.
The HP-28S is indeed a great calculator as well. It doesn't have quite the depth, memory, and power of the 50G, but is smaller, and may be more convenient and easier for many to use. I don't know why functions would take longer to key in, though.
Anyway, HPs are just great all around. My choice for a backup "shirt pocket" calculator would be the HP-15c. I wish they would bring it back!
The HP50g is a peice of crap. It is a lot less user friendly than by HP-28S. What I can do with my HP28S takes many more steps with that crappy 50g. Hoping HP comes up with a better calculator than a peice of crap for SAT/NMSQT students.
The HP 50G is the best calculator ever made! It can't be compared to a smart phone--2 different things. The calculator gives you lots more battery time, you get all the tactile hardware keys, more convenient to use, etc. A smart phone would be much more awkward, but if you like it, fine.
The HP 50G is plenty user-friendly, but it has a steeper initial learning curve. RPN mode makes it FAR more intuitive than other calculators, uses fewer key strokes, faster, etc.
I got my HP 50G on eBay for $85. The Smartphone will cost much more (if the phone cost you less, then you paid more for the contract), PLUS you'd still have to shell out more bucks for a sophisticated enough calculator to rival the HP 50G. You'd pay much more. Plus you wouldn't have actual, real, hardware keys, and your battery would suck down to nothing in no time.
So "any smart phone" does partial differential equations, integral and differential calculus, solves for systems of linear equations, statistics (including hypothesis testing and confidence intervals), factor numbers as well as polynomials, do vector and matrix mathematics, do financial analysis, and can be programmed in five or six different programming languages by the user?
I don't think so.
They potentially could, but they're generally not. And the software would cost a lot more.
Hey, that's great, and if you like that, knock yourself out, but---there's hardly room for all the buttons on the HP 50G, plus they're REAL buttons with tactile feedback, and the battery will last for months instead of hours. So it's all about what you prefer.
By the way, the HP 50G has an OS, too. You can even replace it with Linux if you wanted to (but I'd rather keep it as is).
All programmable devices have OS's. Finding all the buttons on one of those stupid smartphone screens would be a giant pain in the butt, if you could even see them after the screen get's all smudged from being held against your face.
well, as i can see...for me Hp50g is better than casio class....i could do anything with this calculator and i never haven't had problems..for my carrer ..ahh!!..if u want .."Speed!!!"....the hp50g its the best Xd...because hp have diferent MODEl like RPN and ALG ....if u want to use class pad...used for an exam of 4 hours!!..gg..with hp u'd needed less of 1 h

@ibcnunabit HP has an HP-15c App for the iPhone. I've replaced the native calculator with this one, and love it.

Shame that any Smartphone is FAR MORE poweful than the 50G, yet, the 50G cost almost the same... is there any emulator for iPhone?

They could, for they run much more complex programs within their system. hey have an OS!
Yes, it would cost a lot, but a free fan-made HP50 emulator is available so....
