Well Skyrim has an 8 hour long main quest and the game wasn't meant for a great story......The Witcher games have great storyes (one of the best story in gaming history) because CDPR worked hard and they worked verry close with Andrzej Sapkowski

RPG its first of all scenario, which player would enjoy and will play role in this scenario, second of all great writed characters which you can like, or don't, now do you understand what means "Role Play" in RPG? Skyrim was quite boring, and had standard story "you're the chosen one, who will rescue the world!" oh thats so "unpredictable". Play The Witcher 2, and you'll see big gap between those two games.

Yes I found the exact save from which to start, it's where you're walking with the the dwarf to the elven ruins by the "rose of remembrance" statue. From there you begin the major decisions from which you will either be with Roche or Scoia'tael.
