FYI, chung = middle/centre; kwuoc = country. So together it means the country in the middle/centre. In fact, in the Ancient time, the kwuoc was formerly Yuan, = plain. So China was known as Central Plain cuz it was called by all other countries around it. With time Chinese accepted it & called themselves Central-Plainers. It was never called or meant the centre of the world per se. Don't think Chinese are that full of themselves, cuz they're not. U call it China now but they never complained.

You are right, I've never lived under a dictatorship. I was born and raised in the most free country of this world with NO MILITARY influence whatsoever. However, I'm against propaganda without real facts. I was in Tibet, is definitely not New York City, but I didn't see the oppression that many separatists have been talking about. I saw Buddhist temples, roads being built, educational, and medical centers; whereas many Tibetans-in-exile live under extreme poverty levels in India.

However, I don't think Tibetans are being oppressed because of their religion or ethic background. All people in China face the same oppression (not only Tibetans).
