  • My dad has one of these and I personally think they fail in about every way except the fact that they can go in the snow and now they fail even more when it comes to safety.

  • this is a 2005 and it sucks

  • If you listen close you can hear a guy at the end of the crash go WHOO!

  • It's called Maverick in Europe :P

  • Acceptable is not good enough for me

  • the 2001-2007 Ford Escape was assembled in

    Avon Lake, Ohio, United States

    Jhongli City, Taiwan

    Claycomo, Missouri, United States

    Hai Duong, Vietnam

    Hōfu, Yamaguchi, Japan

    Santa Rosa, Laguna, Philippines

  • This model did ok. 3/4 rating

    The 09-11 got a 4/4 perfect score

  • People brag about how there Japanese vehicle gets such great gas mileage. This is accomplished by taking away 5-6-700pounds of metal to lighten the car up. There is no rocket science behind it. A roll bar in a race car weighs about 60lbs. The safety it give is priceless. When they claim fuel efficiency it means the safety is gone. Like the school teacher once said. My Honda get such great gas mileage and a month later she disappeared of the face of the earth.

  • ... subaru...go compare a subaru forester to this...I was recently in a head on collision with my 2005 forester, going 50 mph...not a scratch

  • @davidbonijr They create fuel economy by leaving out the metal. Its a very strange thing you commented because in the winter of 1992 I owned a 1980 Subaru 2 door sedan and was involved in a accident at 40 MPH no seat belt hit a Ford F-250 in the side for me it was a head on collision the same like you I walked away. This vehicle weighed in at 2300 LBS. I Thanked GOD that nothing happened to me and you should do the same because he determines if your allowed to stay or if you should go.

  • some guys in Poland could repair this and sell as a no colision car :D

  • This does not apply to the 08. The 08 is different and better.

  • AHAHAHA i JUST made a comment on the Ford Edge about the dummys arm swinging out! this one did the same! (is it me or does his hand get jammed between the door and the door frame?

  • 40 mph is the standard speed for front crash tests

  • this is wrong, it would have to be to the 07 model. 08 got a complete redesign, and that helped bump to the top

  • The structure and safety system remained largely unchanged for the 08 year thus the reason its the same safety rating. 08 was basically just a cosmetic makeover.

  • no it means 2005-2008 (until the model was re-made.) basicly it means those were the years of that model...until they changed it.

  • rav 4 is worse plus this is the older model

  • truthscavenger, if jap cars are so safe then why did honda have a recall on there air bags killing 6 people!

  • When?

  • japanise cars are death trapps...

  • @jaffacake1578 i have seen lot of dead people in honda city, looks like jap cars aint that tough

  • Happened to me, but impact was on the passenger side, and 40mph, impacting a F-250. Everyone was fine, I walked away with a slight soreness in my shoulder from the seatbelt.

  • fast

  • what speed was that ?

  • 50mph. the problem is having the vehicles drive through a foot of styrofoam and into a block of concrete isn't a proper way to judge as the average person will hit another vehicle, not drive into a building. When hitting another vehicle, simple physics will state that the other vehicle will itself move forward. For someone not to hit their brakes before impact and just run into something is unlikely. So the vehicle would dive and possibly go under the vehicle in front. There are tons of holes.

  • 50 mph seems quite fast !

As far as I know crash tests never exceed 56 km/h (yes : kilometers) because any crash stop above this speed will cause malor internal damages that will cause the death of the driver and passengers

The car crashes seldom happen dead front. Side damages are more lethal, but you cannot "test" them

  • It was increased from 35mph I believe just before 2000 model year for frontal collision. Also note, these are generally offset as it's more likely someone will 'clip' another vehicle, this video shows the worst that can happen if a driver tries to swerve around a vehicle from not paying attention at the last second. Side impact tests are done as well. This is why newer vehicles have standard side curtain air bags. Side impacts are done at 25mph (since I last checked).

  • thanks a lot for all these informations : I think they mean a lot for us common drivers as we always feel that a car accident means very high speed in bad conditions (night, slippery road, in a bad curve, "bad driver !", etc ) is not true

  • Conditions have everything to do with it. Speed is the larget factor. A head on impact at say, 80mph (unlikely as most freeways are divided), would render both vehicles as a write off and probably seriously injure, if not kill all occupants. The IIHS conducts test at 50mph as that would be generally the average speed from people driving over lines and into oncoming traffic while they eat their burger or talk on their cell phone. Also keep in mind that even a 40mph road, drivers will go faster.

  • not bad

  • dude lol ya man lol lol l,ol

  • At 0:16 you can hear an operator go "Whooh"!

I bet they never get tired of their job. :)

  • hmmm i have a question who invented the airbag

  • john hetrick

  • ok is he like smart, stupid or just and airhead

  • piece of glass cut the dummy's face at 0:46

  • the evaluation was...

    structre safety cage accepetble

    head and neck aceptable

    chest good

    left leg and foot aceptable

right foot and leg poor OVERALL EVALUATION ACCEPTABLE

  • gosh all of ford cars crash its door too

  • smart airbags-nice!

  • in europe speed is 56kph~34mph? WHAT is speed i USA?

  • I think it's almost the same (euroNCAP), but ADAC does tests at 80 kph.

  • no way jose! 80 kph was only for a research! the do test at 64 kph

  • I'm not Jose, but I agree, they tested (at 80 kph) some cars with 5 star at 60 kph.

  • its 40 MPH

  • lil fukr held up pretty well!i`m slightly amazed.my wife has an `04 model&it`s been a hell of a car.only complaint is THE FACTORY TIRES SUCK!!!ditched `em for goodyear fortera`s.problem solved.

  • Did your escape have goodyear wrangler hp tires? they were so smooth for my city's streets. I've mounted four toyo open country a/t on mine.

  • not wranglers.they were continental contitrac.they "cupped" to hell and back at around 32k and the treads weren`t even half way shot yet.

  • this car is too solid lol the driver recive all the impact... the car need to be less solid in order to absorb the impact...

  • if it was less solid it would've crushed the cockpit.

  • Thats solid

  • THIS IS WHAT FORDS R MADE FOR

  • Hmm...How did this get an Acceptible?! This was good..

  • Comment removed

  • I know! I agree with you.

  • this car sucks

  • I bought mine with near 130,000 miles on the V6 4WD and its still going very strong, only problem i've had is the little plastic tip on the end of the cruise control cable slips off so I had to tape it on haha

  • looks like its preety safe.i like the style alot too. their are also alot of them on the road.

  • It's only "Acceptable". 3/4 from the IIHS. There are better vehicles.

  • great vehicle, I own one, take it anywhere, on or off road...i suggest the V6 model

  • noooooo! absolute shit-tastic vehicle. i used to own one.

  • what didnt you like about it. i like the style and i have ridden in one before seems to ride good. the new ones are nicer style too.

  • meh, i hated the interior and the standard fwd on the xlt, and the mazda v6 completely died on me on the highway under normal driving conditions. i just generally felt i could have gotten the same practicality out of owning a car, and with better mileage.

  • completely died.wow..how many miles you have on it and what was wrong with it/ battery die

  • well maintained at 70k highway miles. one of my ignition coils went out, taking all of the others, as well as my engine computer with it. i've also had problems with front wheel alignment, and minor piston slap in the cold. it was decent car for me otherwise and from what i hear form other owners, maybe i just got a lemon. it was my dd and i just replaced it w/a 1989 trans am gta, but i might not even keep that car around for long, though.

  • I took on an f250 head on in my old 2001 ford escape, at 45mph, and we both walked away without a scratch....

  • That had some hang time.

  • The a-pillar deformed. NOT GOOD.

Although, in my mk1 Golf GTI, the b-pillar would probably deform as well. ;)

  • sorry, which ones the "a" piller?

  • the very first one, that is between the windshield and front door window frames.

  • Why aren't cars lined with thin, light rubber on the outside?

  • for?

  • Dent & scratch prevention.

  • it would peal off

  • @Borateen like tupperware?

  • f ucking

    o verwhelming

    r ide

    d uh!

  • Fucked

    On

    Race

    Day

  • ford FOUND ON ROAD DEAD

  • after 267k miles my ranger wont be dead until well into 300k its still running strong

  • antrax357M nice to hear that.i have a ranger to and i was wondering what kind of problems did have with if any.everyone i talk to have no problems until it hits 200,000 and they are minor.

  • well i just had to replace the clutch and just usual stuff like breaks, it just barely passed smog though, that will be a little bit of work but not for 2 years. nothing other than that, i still take it off roading and it runs like a champ

  • Sir #1 that bumper was garbage ford plastic #2 That SUV was so light it just bounced off the wall and got lucky #3 Fords are garbage.

  • I believe it got 5 star rating on the frontside. The reason a car is made to crash like this is to absorb the impact. If the bumper was made from steel then the impact would of been much worse on the driver and resulted in a lower crash rating.

  • woah.. i cant tell if thats good or bad.. i think its good. but thats what they call a 5 Star

  • 3 stars

  • @firedemon101 I really don't get that...I've seen other crash tests and this one looked pretty darn good comparatively.

  • this got an acceptable rating only because the brake pedal moved towards the driver alot

  • Plastic bumpers ain't gettin it

  • oh i really love ford vehicles. the old ones are really the best. ford escape is my dream car,...^^,

  • excuse me. but i dont get what you are saying. you're wasting my time. sorry.

  • just as much as you do

  • besides you seem like a tad retard!

  • whatever, stupid freak. i am entitled to my own opinions.

  • whatever,...

  • Big improvement over the previous gen

  • damn my matrix fared better in a 40 mph head on collision in icy conditions

  • buy the pilot

  • pilot is midsize not small

  • so it 40 MPH... I wounder what it would be at 65 MPH?

  • Hmmmm, well the engine might be on your lap lol

  • This is a 40MPH test, that's hitting a vehicle the same weight, size, and mass at 0 MPH. Very few collisions are at 0 MPH. 95% are on the freeway.

  • thats not a real statistic and you know it

  • pretty good for a small suv.

  • Ford's are shit. So, for that matter, are GM. They've both been churning out rubbish, poor quality, soulless, dull cars for years. Small wonder then that they are both in such financial dire straits.

  • People like you live in the past. The Ford Escape was one of the best compace Suv when it came out. You probably think that Japenese cars are the best in the whole wide world. Wake up this is 2007 time to step in the future

  • No, European cars ARE the best. Specifically from Germany and Sweden. Granted, American cars aren't as bad as Chinese, but that really doesn't say much. Case closed.

  • be the first to step into the future then

you must be the one living in the past

  • lol ur just dissing ur country.. everything that is american is shit ... just like you

  • wake up man...Ford did better than Toyota recently...Its 2007...Fords are one of the ebst card ont he market...they have only been around for what? 104 years?

  • Ford best cars on the market ? Are you fuckin dreaming ? Omg...

  • not dreaming hes trippin!

  • I think it's hilarious that everyone is ripping the piss out of exBMRguy... Look at the clip, I dunno about you but I wouldn't wanna be in that car! Sure, the Pontiac may be WORSE but BMR wasn't making a comparison, he was just saying the car was poorly built. As for the welfare recipients part, perhaps it was over the top, but I think his point was the cars are built on a budget to keep costs down and appeal to a wider market. Stop taking things to literally, stanbernadino and jessiejenn!

  • it did good, improved over the crap ones back then. the f-150 was an example

  • oh really exBMRguy? What do you drive? Toyota echo? Loser, Ill have you know i probably make more in a week then you do in a month, so screw you and your welfare comment, you probaly are just so pissed that YOU CANT AFFORD SOMETHING NICE ,and like i said i bet you drive a echo or better yet.. a dodge neon LOSER!!Ford DOES rank high up there!! where you get your info?

  • To say Ford is built for 'welfare recipients' is an arrogant and a dumb statement. I have a Ford which is a great car and I'm not a welfare recipient.

  • ex is right!!

    ford is SHITTTT

  • Another poor quality Ford product built by those that build for welfare recepients. Ford has never ranked high on any realibility study. Stay away from this junk.

  • you think thats bad look at the Pontiac Montana Trans Port

  • ex ur an idiot

  • Agreed. This is nothing compared to the Pontiac!

  • I don't see how you can say that. The most important thing for crash test ratings is passenger compartment intrusion. There is little if no intrusion as a result of this test.

  • ex ur an idiot... why dont u go and drive a montana... =)
