Well, at the time (and for most of the show's run) it was compulsory to mime to a backing track on TOTP.

it is not about miming or not. it is about the show, the performance, the beautiful song and artist. actually the miming is pretty chic/pop. part of the genre. like, commercial disco of high quality, not the "real rock shit" but posh, sweet entertainment with lots of deep soul in it. get it!
