Hello Everyone. My name is Doug of GOSPEL HARMONICA. Please take a moment and check out my site. Type in Gospel Harmonica of Miane. Looking forward for your visit.
I'm a native of Connecticut, then a "transplant" to Maine for college and then a park ranger in Maine's Baxter State Park --I must say that Tim Sample is great, the stories he tells, and the way he tells them are exactly the way folks talk in rural Maine from "The County" down to Eastport and over to the NH border. I've got friends who were born in Maine and lived there all their lives and between them all--I've heard that accent--I'd say as long as u are from New England--you get Tim's humor
Thanks for all the nice comments. The accent I use onstage is almost exactly the same as the men I heard on the docks of Boothbay harbor when I was a boy in the 1950's. A lot of those guys were born in the 1880's and 90's so this is really pretty close to a 19th century dialect
ive lived half my life in Mass, and half my life in Maine, im 20, n when I lived in Mass I alway viseted Maine, but never viseted Mass when I lived in Maine I was born in Mass tho, I have the wierdest accent, its Boston, and Mainah, now if one o the older folk from maine heard me say that theyd be someee pissed, I just say I have a new england accent, period

My Grandfather talks somewhat like this, my doctor as well. I have some of the accent, jiust not as strong due to TV and wider views of the English language
It's nice to see that the old New England accents are still around. I grew up in the Boston area and my grandparents spoke similarly. I notice today in the Boston area that accent is mostly gone, except in the elderly, replaced by standard American English (minus the Rs).
It ain't that isn't funny... you just don't get it. :-) He is a wicked funny guy, especially in person, though I admit that unless you're from Maine, NH or VT, or have spent some time there, it can be hard to understand his humor. Probably why he is not well-known, even in those States!
Some good maine humor, and with the accent too. The only thing is that if you listen to the cd's they are really long. and you have to start from the beginning or it isn't funny. And you really have to be from maine or visiting to get the jokes. Still he was awesome.
