  • @SwagSurf3RR This one is pressure sensitive

  • What was the last paint/draw program you opened? Looks pretty good.

  • @txcowboy13mwz It's called Autodesk Sketchbook Pro

  • how big is the screen?

  • @EverythingGaming199 The screen is 13.1"

  • Really great review. Would have liked to seen Palm rejection demonstrated, and handwriting recognition in OneNote in such (for student purposes).

  • Can you use your hand instead of the pencil?

  • @pamelathecute Yup. You can use up to 2 finger-multitouch.

  • Id like to know whats the battery life with stock battery

  • i was thinking of buying the elitebook hp 2540 but damn! after i watched ur vid i definitely will go for one of these even though id prefer the processor to be a core i7

  • Great review, thanks for posting! :-)

  • Find and buy cheap computers, laptops, videos games, and more, go to the website below. nolaride . com

  • Great review, Thanks!!

  • What was the drawing program you were using at the end with the different pressure settings for the pen?

  • What was that drawing app you pulled up right at the end?

  • @se7enartz

There are 3 screens you can have on your laptop

    Normal screen (only stylus)

    Touch screen (with touch)

Outdoor screen (better for outdoor, little less color also touch)

  • @se7enartz Im no expert here.. But maybe you didnt't get the right one... ?

  • Hi, thanks for the review. I've just got one but i'm having a problem with the screen rotation in the tablet mode. the screen just wouldn't change or auto-rotate. What do I do? Have you encountered this kind of problem? Thanks.

  • How many multi-touch points does it have?

  • @PutYouOnMeTube

2 Points =( but still inpressive

  • Do think it can handle a game like starcarft 2? btw i love this laptop but i am some what of a gamer so i do want it to be able to handle a game or two...

  • very helpful! now i gotta find out the price, I'm sure I won't like that.

  • What display has your laptop have? What is the NIT rating?

  • Vs TM2, wich should I get?

  • Fantastic review with informative information: Thank you. Question: I purchased an Envy 13 due to it's fantastic battery life (9 cell slice) and above all, the keyboard. Of all the machines I've used, the 13 really has such an amazing keyboard. How does the 2740p feel when typing? Can you type fast or is it more of a standard pace machine...

  • starcraft 2 will actually work on this at low settings

  • lol at your voice cracking constantly

  • does the extra battery slate thing come with it?

    Great video.

  • @icoopers its a convertible it does have a kb!

  • @icoopers it has a keyboard. he is showing touch-only mode.

  • on mine right now. i like the computer

  • What's the Windows Experience Index? It looks like 1.1? (a little tough to see) Can you post the component breakdown please? Processor, RAM, Graphics, etc...

  • Does the screen rotate both ways or just one way? (I.e. from laptop mode can you get it into tablet mode by rotating the screen either clockwise or anti clockwise, or can you only rotate it round one way?)

  • @madpeopleAlleg The screen only rotates in one direction (i.e. clockwise to fold down and counterclockwise to put back up). I think this was done for structural integrity, but I haven't found it to be bothersome at all.

  • @waffledork Hi, thanks for the review. I've just got one but i'm having a problem with the screen rotation in the tablet mode. the screen just wouldn't change or auto-rotate. What do I do? Have you encountered this kind of problem? Thanks.

  • @madpeopleAlleg the screen turns only one way but there is a button that rotates the screen its self if you want to turn the tablet itself the other way

  • Hi,

what are the viewing angles on the screen like? Also how long do you find the battery lasts without the slice battery?

Also does it have an accelerometer to automatically tilt the screen orientation?

  • @utopian201 The viewing angles are ridiculous. I've never had a tablet PC before, but if I can physically see the screen, I can see what's on it clearly.

I've never used the device without the slice battery (no point in taking it off), but I'd expect it to get around 4.5- 6 hours.

Unfortunately, there is no accelerometer. There's a button on the side of the screen that you can push to rotate the screen, but this hasn't really been an issue -- i don't tend to rotate the computer a lot.

  • Hi - as this is multi-touch does that mean while drawing with the pen if you were to rest your hand on the tablet it would use the pen nib and hand as input? I can see this as an issue for me.

  • @HecatombRecordings actually, it has what's known as "palm-rejection technology". This means that if you have the pen near the screen, you will not be able to interact with the device through touch as well. Therefore, you can rest your wrist on the screen all you want.

  • What is the application that you use to draw?. Thanks!

  • @juliovalenzuela It's an application called Sketchbook Pro by a company called Autodesk.

  • how heavy is this laptop with the slat battery??

  • @MrDeadzaku About 4.2 lbs

  • so: is this just a pressure touchscreen or is this touchscreen like the ipad-screen, capacitive?

  • @eMWe both. You can use the pen and apply pressure and you can use up to 2 fingers to maneuver.

  • How do you think this model compares to the Lenovo X201?

  • @Nexus2Eden Personally, I'm not a fan of Lenovo's look/feel/structure/etc., so I'm going to have to say much, much, much better.

Disclaimer: I may be a bit biased. ^_^

  • excellent vid review!

too many reviews are little more than recitations of tech spec while looking at opening boxes and peering at ports.

This gives a good impression of how it feels to use.

Plus! noise level is at least as important as any other dimension. Glad you mentioned it's quiet.

  • one question, how is it to use as a note taking tool, i am contemplating buying one of thees for my engineering classes and was wondering what experiences you had about this laptop and writing a lot of stuff on it by a stylus/pen?

does it get all funky whit the multi toutch screen if you lay your hand on the screen while you are writing something on it?

  • I have a couple of questions for you:

    1. How is realtime battery life w/o the attached battery? (WLAN, 50% brightness, Office use only).

    2. I used to have a X200t w/ MT. However, viewing angles were really bad on this one since MT uses some kind of layer that worsens viewing angles. Does this tablet has the same problem? Would be really great if you could do a lil movie showing the viewing angles - and maybe do the same thing again outdoor w/ 100% and maybe 50% backlight.

    Thanks :)

  • @SFseis And some more:

How much is the weight w/ the attached battery?

  • @SFseis The attached slim battery weighs 0.75 lbs. So the laptop went from 3.5lbs to 4.2lbs when I put it on, but the added weight is totally worth the battery life and it's much lighter than my (old) Macbook Pro (5.5lbs)

  • @SFseis

    1) I haven't used the laptop without the attached battery. Once you get it, there's no reason to take it off, but with the attached battery and the brightness at 40%, I've gotten as long as 11.5 hours and as little as 9 hours.

    2) The viewing angles on this thing is amazing. I can the screen clearly from any angle that I can physically see the screen. Additionally, I haven't found glare to be a problem. If it's bright and sunny outside, I just crank up the brightness to 100%

  • @Waffledork I wanted to ask if the screen surface is glass or plastic.

Additionally, how good are the graphics in this vs. the HP TM2's ATI 512 MB?

Lastly, any dead pixels on the screen?

  • @PeterKuriakose The screen surface is glass, but it seems to be really tough glass. Luckily, I haven't dropped my tablet yet, but it seems really sturdy.

I've watched HD videos on it and it looks impeccable. I don't have a HP TM2 to compare it to, but I don't have any dead pixels and I've yet to find myself in a situation where glare is a big problem (though I'm not out at a construction yard at noon attempting to use this thing...)

  • how is the screen? I have a 2730p which is basically the same laptop but without the touch screen (digitizer is for pen only).

My screen appears somewhat "twinkly" is the best i can describe it. Its almost as if there was a very fine mist sprayed onto it and the droplets are diffracting the light. Its a matte finish I guess. Its a very hard plastic as far as I can tell and does not have any flex, as compared to my friends tm2t which you can see deform slightly as you apply pressure...

  • @BryansU2B There doesn't seem to be any flex that I've noticed. Also, I haven't really noticed the "graininess" at all.

  • have you tired any steam games yet? I wonder if this will play Starcraft 2

  • @japhethm I've played Portal. I'm pretty sure Starcarft would run, but I wouldn't play a game that requires so much micromanaging on a laptop, but that's just my opinion.

  • gorgeous screen & gorgeous wallpaper, where could I locate the wallpaper for download?

  • @KBarwise I found the wallpaper on deviantart (in the list of "Best of All Time"). I find that it works nicely in landscape and even nicer in portrait. ^_^

  • nice review i like it a lot :)

  • @douahou007 thank you ^_^

  • Is there any way of turning off the multi touch features?

  • @Ganana55 I believe there is. If you go to the Control Panel, there's a section for the Tablet Pen and a section for the Trackpad. I believe you can disable the multitouch from there.

  • My school just ordered about 200 of these

  • Hey man, great review. I own a 2730p, thinking about getting the 2740p.

Can you tell me how the pen works at the edge of the screen? Because with the 2730p, when the pen is around the edge, the cursor starts to jump around and I couldn't point to the place I wanted.

    Thanks.

  • @ralf1020 It seems like the 2740p and the 2730p share that problem. In fact, from what I've read, it seems like it's a prevalent problem among all tablet PCs (the active digitizer is less powerful at the edges of the screen).

I've just calibrated the device to my liking and after a couple weeks of use, I've learned not to use the edges of the screen, and if I need to, for whatever reason, I've become accustomed to adjusting for that jumpiness.

  • Hey Waffledork,

Nice review! I just got the same tablet and I'm having some issues. I don't seem to have pressure sensitivity. How did you get both pressure sensitive penning and multitouch to work? Any insight would be helpful... Thanks.

  • @petrikigor It should have pressure sensitivity right off the bat. My only suggestion would be to reinstall the drivers.

  • i dont really know alot about computer parts and such and as u mentioned its not an ideal video game computer does that mean it would not be good for 3d modelling software...i found ur video through a review site and from that site the guy said there is sometimes a difference of a few mm when u use the touch screen...and with 3d modelling thats a bad idea...do u see that as an issue or am i better off buyng something else

  • @fabfashionista13 The difference of a few mm when using the touchscreen is a calibration preference. It'll be the same on everything you buy -- you'll be able to calibrate this as you wish

  • Uh oh, i had the impression that they had already installed the PIXEL QI screen into this tablet. Having to turn up the BACKLIGHT to operate in BRIGHT SUNLIGHT means that there is ABSOLUTELY NO SAVINGS IN BATTERY POWER, and thus increases your power consumption by just turning brightness up against the SUNLIGHT... I guess i will still wait for PIXEL QI to be installed into HP TABLETS before I really jump onto the TABLET bandwagon.... thanks.

  • i would like to know how good is the SUNLIGHT VIEWABLE SCREEN ??

or is your tablet not fitted with it??

is the SUNLIGHT VIEWABLE version using the PIXEL QI SCREEN ??

  • @vincentowyong although it's an indoor screen, when working in sunlight, i just turned the brightness all the way up and things were much clearer than i thought they'd be. I wouldn't say that you could use it outdoors indefinitely, as it would probably strain your eyes, but if you need to do something and you're sitting in the sun, you'll be able to see the screen, no problem.

  • Very nice machine :-) I hope for christmass in Europe.. :-)

Anyway, I would like to ask a few questions :

Somewhere I read, that it could be possible to stack up tu two slate batteries (but I kind of cant believe it and only slide + base could be stacked according to HP salesman on engadget). What do you think about two slate batteries?

And another, the wallpaper is absolutely beautiful, would you mind sharing a link or is it your own work? :-)

  • @LordPalda Funny story -- I actually have 2 slate batteries. I need to return one.... On the bottom of the laptop, there's this sliding cover that houses a set of pins. These plug into the slate battery. Once you put on 1 slate battery, those pins are covered up and there's no way a 2nd battery can be attached.

As for the wallpaper, I found it on deviantArt. ^_^

  • @waffledork Good review and nice wallpaper. I cant find the wallpaper on devicantart, can you remenber the name or at link?

  • I noticed you have Steam.

Care to share your experience with any games you might have?

  • @orgAnXd0nor i haven't actually tried Steam yet. I've been a mac user prior to this system, and I ended up picking up Portal during it's 2 week free Portal event (I know, I know...i haven't played it yet). I'll try it out either tonight or tomorrow and get back to you on that. I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I don't have any games like Counterstrike or anything of that caliber, but I'll try out Portal and let you know how it runs.

  • @waffledork Welcome to the darkside, then. I'm glad you went with the 2740p instead of the iPad. Playing Portal with decent FPS would probably be asking the little tablet too much, since it doesn't have a dedicated GPU; but who knows, the i5/i7 might be able to handle it. If portal doesn't work out, check out some indie games, they'd definitely run well and be extremely fun on the touch screen.

I have to wait 2-3 weeks for this tablet...T_T...I hope it's worth it.

  • @orgAnXd0nor actually, I did ^_^ This video has World of Goo, but I've also tried Cogs, Aquaria, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Machinarium, Puzzlegeddon, and Tales of Monkey Island and they all work flawlessly.

  • @waffledork Ah, yes, my tendency to skip around got the better of me. Looks great!
