I love the expresion of the whirling derviche..... he really is in trance..... with an empty mind... at moments he seems that he is not using his own legs....is the music that appears to move him......
This is the type of thing that has me interested in Islam, not the hardened negativity of @succeed. It is the peaceful, tranquil music and dance that glorifies the divine, not the travesties of wars, blood, and hatred. Those are the province of evil, and they are rampant. That someone could criticize such a beautiful thing only saddens an already sad world.
@DrumlineGuru there are intolerants and extremists in every religion in the world....fortunately still exists the people who can recognize GOD in other expresions....peace Brother
@succeed06 yes, part of the peaceful Sufi (majority) of Islam that the media chooses to ignore...but then, by their creed they're told to keep religion and politics separate so consequently aren't as visible as fundamentalists and extremists
@miahk2 I guess my question was rhetorical ....this honestly can not be islamic...what is he doing spinning around like hes insane and that dress honestly how blind can these people be...do normal humane prayer and zikr...dont use instruments and satanic looking dances...its deviation like this that bought down prophets of the past to guide people to the straight path
@succeed06 Your comment reminds me of the part of the film 'The Message' when Abu Sufyan's wife says to the sahabi that 'Muhammad is blind, his eyes are closed'. The Sahabi replies 'his eyes are closed but his heart is open...'
I think this summarises the Sufi creed well- open your heart. I would advise that you read about Jalal Uddin Rumi and the Whirling Dervishes to understand the philosophy of spinning and the dress. Don't let strict rules harden your heart. Allah knows you're human too.
After constantly being barraged by man's evil, isn't this video a great example of man's GOOD. The dervish, and this emotional music is what man could be doing all the time. Something so lovely and peaceful. Anyone that hears this music and sees this ritual are better people for it. But man choses to go the other direction: wars and destruction.
J'ai vu l'ensemble "AL-KINDI et LES DERVICHES DE DAMAS" il y a longtemps à l'INSTUT DU FRANÇAIS DE MADRID!..ils sont vraiment superbes!..ALLAH ALLAH ALLAH ALLAH ALLAH..AKBAR!!
@Minotaure1979 it's really easy actually. Just open your right palm towards the sky and your left palm towards the ground; and spin to your left on your right foot using your left foot to propel yourself. The dizziness takes a little practice to get used to but it's not hard. Make sure you have some space and let the meditation take it's course.
I was hypnotized when I first saw this a while ago, It was as if I could see . hear & feel the pure spiritual devotion / Ecstasy of any true mystic when in that blessed grace of the divine.

hilarious in your joke about his attire spinning around like roti canai ( pan fried dough bread of Southern India ) but please do not joke about them for they are just worshipping and not trangressing God.
If they are doing evil and bad things - they would done many things by claiming themselves to be God .
No no real muslim would state so as it is forbidden.
his momentum is base on the breath he takes , followed by whispering psalm-ish prayers or supplications to the God Almighty. the music is just supplentary and the beats are the counts to know the spins.
