Local food insulates a community from that, and with energy costs set to rise we'd be better off growing more of our own food. There's nothing extreme about this video. Eating locally grown food would be great... if everyone stuck to what grows locally. Unfortunately some people won't stop eating oranges just b/c oranges don't grow in Nebraska. So farmers turn to dangerous chemicals, stripping soil to keep up with customers' selfish demands. The harm done is far worse than a few trips by truck or plane to deliver goods worldwide.

The idea of shipping food across the globe to feed starving people is retarded. Everyone should make fuel and food locally and use it locally. Starvation is the only fool proof way of controlling population. Think of humans like a disease for the earth (sounds pretty horrible I know). It's trying to control us by food supply. But if our population continues to grow at this rate the disease will win and the earth will die. And when the host dies so does the disease. Were not so different.

WolYou has some excellent ideas to help ease any food shortage problems. More ideas:

* Eat a GLUTEN-FREE diet! No Barley, Rye, Oats or Wheat. Doing so will help ease some of the pressure.

*If you eat out, eat ONE-HALF the meal and take home the rest for a lunch or dinner later in the week. Most restaurants serve way too much for one person. Amortize dining out over several meals & save $& food!

Also using FOOD to "feed" cars is sheer lunacy and should be protested and stopped.

This is insane & not only a hardship on poor farmers, but these "sterile" seeds could "infect" other crops to create sterile seeds worldwide. Then we could have global famine.

Rule No. 3: Don't eat meat. The energy-efficiency is very bad: 25kg grain = 1kg meat. Ratio 25:1.

Rule No. 4: No bio-diesel. One tankful of bio-diesel wastes the yearly food supply for one person. Ratio is 40:1.
