if you recording singles yes but not if you're making a mixtape. In order to claim a beat you've recorded to as a part of your mixtape, you first have to get consent from the producer, otherwise you can't add it to the mixtape.

In case your mixtape gets big, the producer will also require you to credit him so everyone knows who made the beat. You can't just record to an original beat and claim it's yours on your mixtape without paying for the right to lease it first....

i wish that was true...think of all the big names dropping mixtapes recently like wale, j cole, mac miller, etc. They had to pay all the DJs they worked with for rights to use the beat. Lil Wayne got sued by Bangladesh for not paying him for the "A Milli" beat...once they settled over that shit then he worked with Bangladesh to do 6 foot 7 foot...always best to ask for and credit them later for the beat...the way business is...you don't have to ask to record over mainstream beats
