The Gnat ended up being a very successful interceptor in the Indian Air Force and notched up many air to air kills. I have gun camera footage of one such - which I must put up on YouTube. Besides - it was small and a difficult target for other aircraft of that era to hit.
@cybersurg Yes, in Indian service only, has this jet seen any actual combat. Despite being used by also the UK and Finland, only combat was seen by IAF service Gnats. The type also has it's hall of fame induction by being the mount of our only "Param Vir" medal winner won by an airman, Nirmal Singh Sekhon, who downed one PAF Sabre and set another ablaze, from a group of 4, single handedly, before being downed himself.
Really Nice. The latter footage looks like North Weald, so it's probably one of our boys' Gnats from a few years ago.. Check out our Gnat videos... Thanks for this.
Thats the plane used in one of Charlie Sheen's comedy movies the one he played Topper Harley

The first bit of black and white film shows a Midge, from which was developed the Gnat.

Er, that's not a Gnat, it's a Midge from which the gnat was developed.
