Anyway, I just hope that this is a success. I've been hoping for a WH40k movie for years.. I want to see some eldar get bombarded with drop pods and some orks get cut in half with chainswords. As long as this movie has lots of blood and epic battles it's gonna be awesome. I can't wait for 1 year to see this movie.. I don't know if I can wait another month.

I can see that there is a lot of heat on the Ultramarines. Well, this usual, and natural...always the toughest are hated. Lets face it...the Imperium need it some posterboys,but more than just pretty faces. They have chosen the Ultramarines. They pushed them, and did a fantastic job about it. The story for this has been wriiten by Dan Abnett who wrote a 40k novel about the Iron Snakes, so it sounds promising if someone who knows their shit about SM's and 40k in general has written it.
Well technically you will be more likely to run into an Imperial Guardsmen than a Space Marine, but I think that's a moot point. Also... The baddies better be Chaos!
As much as I might like the Guard, for a feature film like this (even though it's going to DVD) you have got to start with the Space Marines. They are the quintessential characters of 40K, and understanding who they are will put other forces in the Imperium of Man in their proper perspective.

I would love it to be any other chapter, seeing as, imo, Ultramarines are highly over rated and there are much better choices fluff wise. However, UM really are the generic marines. They don't really have any weird flaws or dark secrets or curses. They wrote the Codex Astartes and are the most basic chapter of them all. That's why it makes sense to make them the cahpter depicted in the movie.
@PyramidHeadX if they wanted a chapter with flaws or secrets then they should have done the Black Templar's of the Blood angels or better yet, the Emperors body Guards the Legio Custodes

dark angels, black templars, they could even get their shit extremely straight and make a movie about a whole new black crusade, im not even mentioning the whole heresy books, they can at least use the 3 basic ones for a trilogy
the Ultramarines are the perfect chapter. Like thompson said there a chapter evvveerrryyyy 40k fan can relate to. Even though there are much more cooler and better developed chapters the ultramarines are the iconic space marines :)
this will be a really tricky movie to make. 1 the movie has to stay true to the fans who know the backstory, but at the same time it must appeal to the general public without being dumbed down into a shit action movie. if its pulled of correctly it will be bigger then effin avatar cause lets face those of us who are in the kno, kno how freking cool this this shit is and how dark it can get

They aren't any more real than the others. But they are the most 'average', not in a bad sense you understand. They are the vanilla marine, they don't have any bizarre quirks that detract from the idea of what a Marine is. Blood Angels for example would confuse some people as they are meant to be the good guy yet have the black rage and eat flesh etc
Too bad we couldnt see a movie about Loken or Cypher.
I hope they stay loyal to the fluff and dont screw it up to please the masses...so many good themes or stories are ruined by the attempt to appease the masses.
From what i've been told is the movie won't be base on any book so Tyranids might not be in it so it could be Orks Tau Chaos who knows and its going to be CGI.

Black Hawk Down is not a good movie reference. Still, sounds like they have a pretty sound idea of how to go about making the movie. Here's hoping it doesn't go the way of the Mutant Chronicles Movie debacle. They need to plan big, with an entire series of movies, to capture 40k. Can't wait to see the casting. Oh, and please don't let the antagonists be Orks. Green rugby players talking cockey? No thanks. Will probably be Tyranids, considering it's Ultramarines.
Space Marines may be the most iconic thing in Warhammer 40k, however the thing that truly defines the universe itself is Chaos.
Without Chaos the W40k universe is like other Sci-fi universes. The Grim Darkness that is portrayed within 40K is largely due to the fact that faltering against Chaos will not doom your body, it will doom your soul.
Therefore a movie that introduces the general public to 40k without the key element that makes this universe so grim, Chaos, would be kind of stupid.
This is only a good thing for game workshops comersal and tradeing in the market. I have notic that more younger generations want to join the universe of warhammer 40k and they do buy the miniatures like crazy. That was after dawn of war. But after the movie, well we can only feel joy and give game workshop a big congratulations. See you in the store. XD
I think maybe the 'unexpected' turn it might have is we'll be left in a situation where it is almost certain there'll be a follow up! I think it's a good idea they've done Ultramarines, as a chapter, because they are the most 'straight up' chapter for a complete newbie to get their head around. Alot of other chapters have questionable motivations, like DA's. So Ultra's, altho not my chapter, are a good and ideal start :-)

i can already imagine never ending tides fightting in the midsth of mushroom clouds whit fleets of space ship size of a moon dropping millions upon millions of troops in wawes that look like heavy rain and kilometre high titans blasting crates size of olympis stadium and fotresses that have hundreds of meters tall saint and aingels cut in their sides and next to them are thousands of gun batteries as powefull as the Death Star blasting into space trying to doo even a little damage to these ships

I'm so excited about this project.. I used to play Ultramarines some times ago, but the characters ans their stories have been developped for so long that you are submerged with one of the richest SciFi universe that has been created!

When the enemy you're fighting melts all of a planet's organic tissue into a soup and drinks up like a straw, I'd call blowing up the planet a draw at least.

There used to be a plan for 12 films, but Lucas quickly realized that it was unfeasible and that he would not be pursuing this endeavor, and the 6 films we see are the 6 films that will exist.
I hope this does not turn into a Star Wars saga. Look at what happened with their expanded universe. It makes me SICK. Black Library is perfect the way they are, this film shouldn't affect what they do whatsoever. That said good luck to the writers and directors.
Will go well with the release of Space Marine.

the Ultramarines are the perfect chapter. Like thompson said there a chapter evvveerrryyyy 40k fan can relate to. Even though there are much more cooler and better developed chapters the ultramarines are the iconic space marines :)

this will be a really tricky movie to make. 1 the movie has to stay true to the fans who know the backstory, but at the same time it must appeal to the general public without being dumbed down into a shit action movie. if its pulled of correctly it will be bigger then effin avatar cause lets face those of us who are in the kno, kno how freking cool this this shit is and how dark it can get

They aren't any more real than the others. But they are the most 'average', not in a bad sense you understand. They are the vanilla marine, they don't have any bizarre quirks that detract from the idea of what a Marine is. Blood Angels for example would confuse some people as they are meant to be the good guy yet have the black rage and eat flesh etc

I'd like to think this will do well, but as soon as i heard "giving the fans what they want" (paraphrasing) i know this is going to suck. unless they make this so that NON 40k fans can enjoy it, its going to suck. i guess if your a 40k it doesnt matter, but if your more of a casual fan like me, basicaly who only plays the games, not invests time and money in the masturbation frequency increasers, such as the painting and Role playing.... where was I? oh ya, its gona suck.

probably but it could be surprising if you go into it with low expectations. And the whole universe is setup for non 40k fans, you only have to shine a light on it, its the fact that when you mention 40k to ppl they immidiately think little minis on a table instead of the Marines stomping across the battlefield and taking it to the emperors foes.

From what i heard (rumors, nothing more) is it is going to about the life of a single marine, and his life story...or something along those lines.
I hope (note 'hope', not 'know') that the film will at least mention - better yet, show - every race/army from the universe, though i think they will probably show one main antagonist, and its likely to be orks...

Black Hawk Down is not a good movie reference. Still, sounds like they have a pretty sound idea of how to go about making the movie. Here's hoping it doesn't go the way of the Mutant Chronicles Movie debacle. They need to plan big, with an entire series of movies, to capture 40k. Can't wait to see the casting. Oh, and please don't let the antagonists be Orks. Green rugby players talking cockey? No thanks. Will probably be Tyranids, considering it's Ultramarines.

Space Marines may be the most iconic thing in Warhammer 40k, however the thing that truly defines the universe itself is Chaos.
Without Chaos the W40k universe is like other Sci-fi universes. The Grim Darkness that is portrayed within 40K is largely due to the fact that faltering against Chaos will not doom your body, it will doom your soul.
Therefore a movie that introduces the general public to 40k without the key element that makes this universe so grim, Chaos, would be kind of stupid.

This is only a good thing for game workshops comersal and tradeing in the market. I have notic that more younger generations want to join the universe of warhammer 40k and they do buy the miniatures like crazy. That was after dawn of war. But after the movie, well we can only feel joy and give game workshop a big congratulations. See you in the store. XD

I think maybe the 'unexpected' turn it might have is we'll be left in a situation where it is almost certain there'll be a follow up! I think it's a good idea they've done Ultramarines, as a chapter, because they are the most 'straight up' chapter for a complete newbie to get their head around. Alot of other chapters have questionable motivations, like DA's. So Ultra's, altho not my chapter, are a good and ideal start :-)

Amazing. I can't wait. I am looking forward to this film even more so than transformers (1) and avatar. It's gonna be the best movie ever, making way for many more 40k films to follow. Hopefully one day a full blown 3D live action trilogy!!!

i can already imagine never ending tides fightting in the midsth of mushroom clouds whit fleets of space ship size of a moon dropping millions upon millions of troops in wawes that look like heavy rain and kilometre high titans blasting crates size of olympis stadium and fotresses that have hundreds of meters tall saint and aingels cut in their sides and next to them are thousands of gun batteries as powefull as the Death Star blasting into space trying to doo even a little damage to these ships

There used to be a plan for 12 films, but Lucas quickly realized that it was unfeasible and that he would not be pursuing this endeavor, and the 6 films we see are the 6 films that will exist.
I hope this does not turn into a Star Wars saga. Look at what happened with their expanded universe. It makes me SICK. Black Library is perfect the way they are, this film shouldn't affect what they do whatsoever. That said good luck to the writers and directors.
