  • Cadogan was a "founder" of the band in the sense that he made such a great addition to the band that SJ considered him a founding member, it doesn't make him a liar, it just means that he has a lot respect for Kevin as a musician and even more so as a bandmate.

  • is Cadogan with them now? if not why not? what happened?

  • I'll be honest, I wasn't listening to anything Stephen said. I was busy listening to Kevin and thinking "DAT GUITAR..."

  • I love Stephan Jenkins and Kevin Cadogan.Together they wrote some of the most beautiful music ever. I really miss Kevin being a part of 3eb and wish Stephan would realize that 3eb has not been the same without him. I still liked OOTV and I think Tony is alright but he will never be Kevin Cadogan. I also miss Arion and I would love to see Jenkins, Cadogan, Hargraves and Salazar together again as 3eb

  • they gotta unite, and make 3eb amazing again

  • I have to agree with sentiment that 3EB is downhill after the Blue album. And Jenkins isn't that great of a song writer really. Listen to the songs. They're pretty much all the same subjects and in alot of ways the lyrics (Ursa Major for instance had several sentences he used previously.) This doesn't mean I don't still like som of the music. But lets be honest, Jenkins is full of shit.

  • @TheJoker1403 what lines were reused?

  • I love Stephan Jenkins :):)

  • Stephan Jenkins was actually playing drums at ten and was beating around recording studios when he was 15, so any of you who want to say that the guy can't back his play can just shut up with the hate. He paid his dues. The writing is a plus, and yeah he still does have passion for what he does. Even now, he still looks at 3eb as if it's a brand new band, still striving to improve. How many modern bands can say that???

  • always remember that a band is a collection of people working towards the same goal, it doesn't matter who the driving force in the band is, as long as you work well together, and when you don't, you part ways, stephen jenkins obviously still has music and performance in his heart, some people will never stop doing what they love, no matter what happens, or who leaves, credit to third eye blind, in whatever configuration, keep playing great music

  • Yes, and when Stephan found Kevin the band was still coming together. Kevin was def. in the band when it still played small clubs, and no one can deny that he co-wrote the original albums. Tony came back to enjoy the success that Kevin created. He shouldn't feign surprise at what's happening to him now, as he saw it all happen to Kevin.

  • and no one has even heard of his band Bully. Or whatever the heck he changed the name to. Great guitarist, yeah, but not half the musician that Jenkins is. I rest my case.

  • Jenkins isn't the one who came up with all the fancy guitar parts in OOTV and Ursa Major. That's all Tony. Tony is the reason why their last two albums can compare with the first two, because he's just as good as a guitarist as Kevin. I think Kevin was better, but Stephan was not the one who made the last two albums compare to the first two. He doesn't even come close to the level of skill that Tony and Kevin have on guitar.

  • Oh, I'll give you that Fredianelli can kick Jenkin's ass on the guitar any day. But Jenkins is the primary song writer, meaning that the lyrics, melody, chord structure, and song structure are all his creations. Fredianelli is one hell of a lead guitarist, no doubt, but the fact remains that Jenkins is one of the, if not THE, most ingenious American songwriter in the business. Don't get me wrong, though, all credit to Fredianelli and Hargreaves for being absolutely AMAZING at their instruments.

  • Well.. the guitar isn't Stephan's lead role anyway.. it's his singing. Ever hear Kevin try to sing in his own band?? God, it's awful. Stephan holds his own pretty well as a great singer AND a decent guitarist.

  • @Luker635 correction, last 2 albums cannot compare with first two, although ootv is decent, its no self title

  • @masternate61 Of course, that's obvious. I'm just saying that without Tony Third Eye Blind would have been done. Obviously the quality of their albums has declined with each release and that probably won't change.

  • Of course his lyrics and singing are still amazing, but without Tony there would be no comparison between the older 3eb albums and the latest ones.

  • hahhahahaaha you just tried to say jenkins was a good musician. Priceless. The dude can only write songs with G, C, D, and maybe an Em here and there. He needs actual musicians such as tony and kevin to write songs with anything else. great lyricist and melody writer, but musician? Nope.

  • There's nothing wrong with his chord structures, man. How many different ways can you recombine tonic, subdominant, and dominant? Just because he writes most of his stuff in the same key doesn't mean anything; it just means he's found a key that works well with his vocal range. It's not about the chord structure, it's the way that he continues to use conventional chord structures in a way to make every song sound different, and yet still beautiful to hear.

  • amazing songwriter, dude you know nothing about composition so stop pretending jerkoff, the songs he writes are in the key the best suits his voice, what is a musician then jerkoff a guy who pounds out leads like a fucking idiot? thats no musician...you're no musician

  • That's not true. Out of the Vein is an amazing album. If you're going to say no to that, you're in denial. Catchy lead guitar? No. Amazing lyricism, songwriting, and musicianship. Absolutely. Same goes for Ursa Major. Get your head out of the 90's. Stephen Jenkins is the best American songwriter alive today. If it really was Cadogan that was the driving force behind 3eb, don't you think he would have DONE SOMETHING by now? But no, ten years later, he doesn't even get to the east side on tours,

  • I was at the Oasis show @ Bill Graham where these guys got signed. I was never a big fan, but they deserved their deal. The guitar player was great and without him these guys cant create any good music. Bottom line.

  • Kevin composed a great deal of the music on the first album. There was NO record contract before Kevin and Stephan started writing together and though Stephan had the name Third eye blind, he was completely unknown. Even with Kevin, they started out playing small clubs et....Tony was introduced as the "original" guitarist the day Kevin was ousted for questioning Stephans illegal activities. At that point, no one, including Kevin, even knew who Tony was.

  • no, you're wrong my friend. Tony Fredianelli was the original guitarist, but he had problems going from vegas to San Francisco for practice, that's why Third Eye Blind hired Kevin Cadogan instead.

  • TONY was the original guitarist for the band no Kevin....Kevin came in when Tony couldn't tour and left the band.....just so you know

  • yeah he lived in vegas and the band practiced and shit in san fran, then when tony got more money he moved to san diego (i think) and re joined

  • Kevin was the original guitarist of 3eb as mainstream american knows 3eb during the 1990s. You're right Tony was the original guitarist technically for Third Eye Blind when it was making shitty songs (other than SCL). So everyone's right about the history. It's just a matter of who you prefer.

  • @jaredbeane You're right. I think I remember reading about that in a magazine somewhere.

  • anyone who says out of the vein is better than blue, is out of the(ir) mind. Nothing on Out of the Vein can come anywhere close to Wounded. Cadogan is/was an essential part of 3eb, you can tell because as their music has progressed without him, it has started to sound more and more generic like modern stuff.. I mean, I'm still going to support them no matter what because Jenkins is/was a great songwriter (writers block as of late),

    simple math: Eponymous>Blue>OOTV>Red Star EP

  • dude u can't compare an EP to an album, and Red Star EP was freaking awesome Red Star Non Dairy Creamer and Why Can't You Be are all better than the song Wounded (which is still a kick ass song). Cadogan is a greedy fuck, and Jenkins is a lyrical genius.

  • I wasn't comparing the EP to an album, It took basically what 6 or so years to have them release anything new, I just put it there because it's something they've released. I was referring to the music part, not just the songwriting. Jenkins has be quoted saying that Wounded is the best song that he and the band have ever written. I love jenkin's songwriting, but the music quality just hasn't been as good after Cadogan left. I liked Red Star, but after the wait I just expected a little better...

  • wat.

  • But really, how someone can say that any song on Red Star, let alone all of than are better than wounded?

    Mind blowing.

  • wounded is a sick song but, and out of the vein is better than blue

  • thank you

  • Hey, can you please post the rest of this video so we can hear gorgeous.

  • I have a video of Gorgeous on youtube, I'm sure you've already seen it. I agree, I'd like to see this performance's full version if possible. Good call

  • The fact is, Cadogan was bloody AWESOME and paired with Jenkins, they have/had one hell of a songwriting team.

  • jenkins other great writing partner was original bassist jason slater. when he left the band jenkins bought his publishing rights. so alot of the songs from the first three albums that are credited as just "jenkins" are actually "jenkins/slater". he also co wrote songs that are not on albums ie. tattoo of the sun and unreleased songs like alright caroline.

  • @Storm88000 but jenkins is just a tool

  • i am one of the few that remember and know about the Darwin Conspiracy Theory which discloses every detail about how Jenkins screwed Cadogan. if you want to read and listen to it, message me your email address.

also, 3eb has been pretty much garbage since Cadogan was ousted. if anyone claims to disagree, just count how many hits and albums 3eb has had since the day Cadogan was screwed over --> January 26th, 2000.

  • you cant measure how good third eye blind is by how many hits they had... and blue is pretty much garbage compared to out of the vein

  • the new one sounds like the most garbage

  • you sound like the most garbage

  • lol.. well I stumbled upon third eye blind a year or two ago and they are one of my fav bands lol.. Stephan Jenkins is one of my fav artists.. but I've listened to the new songs and I don't dig em lol sorry if my opinion has offended you but I continue to overplay the old albums and I anticipate the new album but from what I heard they are going in a direction I don't particularily like as much.. by garbage I just meant compared to the old stuff.. but hey we all have opinions lol

  • ootv cant touch blue. blue = third eye blind. ootv = stephen eye blind. good but not better.

  • in my opinion ootv is 3eb in their prime. i understand if people think 3eb was at its best when stephen and kevin were writing together. but listen to kevins solo stuff and listen to ootv (apparently stephens solo stuff). no contest. ootv wins

  • Listen to Million Times the Sky. It is so amazing. I can't even describe it.

  • You think Thousand Yard Stare is inferior to Out of the Vein? You're musical taste is horrid.

  • Cadogan agreed it was their band together 50/50. And it wasn't until then the two-some wrote all of the songs together as 3EB;Losing a Whole Year,Narcolepsy,Graduate,How's It Going to Be,Thanks a Lot, Burning Man, Good for You, London The Background, God of Wine. All the songs not listed were written by Stephan alone and he gets all the writing credit. Nowhere on the albums of Blue or ST will you hear Tony. So sorry Jared, you are dead wrong., but thanks for coming out..

  • Excuse the grammatical mistake

  • I still think OOTV can do without some of the dumb filler like Self Righteous and Start Your Engines..

  • blinded, crystal baller, forget myself, misfits, wake for young souls, faster, can't get away, another life.. thousand yard stare is absolutely inferior to ootv

  • Being talentless and a liar has nothing to do with being gay.

  • Yes, I agree, but being found in bed with a dude raises some questions. moron

  • Also, this is obviously a gorgeous bootleg. Why the would you record 1:08 seconds of SJ talking out of his ass when you could've clicked the record button on something that REALLY matters, the music that Kevin made with 3eb.

Honestly, I don't know what you're trying to prove that we don't already know.

    a. Kevin is a cool guy.

    b. SJ is full of shit the vast majority of the time.

    c. Kevin played excellent guitar in an excellent band, and made exceptional music.

  • you guys are hilarious, 8 years ago, get over it.

  • Wow. Jenkins is a liar. Shocker. I always thought it was pretty common knowledge that 98% of what comes out of his mouth is complete bullshit. If it weren't, we'd have 3 new 3eb albums out right now. This could just as easily be more bullshit from SJ, or it could be the truth.

  • Get over it please.

  • I don't understand how this is arguing what you guys say it is?

Brad didn't even play on some of the tracks on the first record - and jenkins is there saying 'the four of us were sitting around'

'4 of us' could mean absolutely anyone who was sitting there with Jenkins.

    *shrug*

The Kevin vs. Tony debate is so fucking old.

Both are great for different reasons.

Get the fuck over SJ drama that happens no matter who he plays with. It will happen time and again no matter who it is.

  • Carter what you need to hear is coming soon and it will silence you.

  • do explain

  • HELL YES....dont stop rockin kevin

  • holy shit, this is priceless....

  • from Jenkin's own mouth that Kevin Cadogan was a founding member..the real original.
