sorry to read about your loss/losses but this is a classic example of why people should not just leave their chickens to stay in a barn or other open enviroment. chickens need a secure coop and pen for when they are not free ranging. a .22lr and a good dog are also priceless when you have free ranging chickens.
I cried for this lovely creature's loss. I used to have a chick before. When he died I remember crying for 2 weeks. Animals r such great creatures. I am sure Lord had such a great time as he was taken care of by a caring and sweet family...
I cared for my Lord a lot, also for my favorite and oldest chicken which also has been one of the victims... It is quite hard to collect more than 200 pounds of bodies from your property and still stay calmed... I had already forgotten how to cry, but this night it all just came out...
I don't know if I ever would find such a nice rooster again. Lord was so nice, and a good friend of our children....
I just wanted to share this with you even though it might not be important.
I learned that it doesn't matter what you do to keep foxes out; this time the fox found his way tru the neighbours property after we had put up double fences up.
I have to announce that the same fox came back two days ago (the hunter said it was the same fox). And, finally this time he killed my "Lord".... :-( He didn't only kill him; also all of his girls, and some other rare poultry I have been keeping in my barn so far. In total they were 24 fatalities.
that soo sad

Hey folks,
I have to announce that the same fox came back two days ago (the hunter said it was the same fox). And, finally this time he killed my "Lord".... :-( He didn't only kill him; also all of his girls, and some other rare poultry I have been keeping in my barn so far. In total they were 24 fatalities.
