My 2009 Desktop iMac's 1TB hard disk is nearly full and the computer seems to be running real slow these days with lots of beach balls popping up and - especially in Aperture.
I've been told the applications on the desktop might run faster if I put the iTunes and Aperture libraries and pretty much any other "data" on a separate drive.
I am seeking an expandable external storage solution that is accessible over a fast connection.
@LucifersDisciple6 the easiest way to make sure is go on AMD's website and look at minimum requirements. You should also check whether or not you have correct connectors on your PSU
3:15 that makes no sense.... a monitor stand doesnt cost 3000 dollars lol and wood doesnt cost hundereds.... yea id rather just build a home server :D my case can hold like 12 hdds
Wish I still had the passion the guy in this video has for computing but I've lost it :( Apple IIe, C64, Amiga, PC, Linux and rougly 300 computing magazines later and its over.

…continued… :)
Drobo or another vendor I was recently made aware of - a company called "Synology" may be the answer. :)
I use a wireless "N" network at home. Not sure if this is a "Gigabit" network so this is the first thing I need to clarify. :)
I saw a little Drobo video suggesting iSCSI over Ethernet is faster than Firewire 800.
My desktop has one Ethernet connection, one Firewire 800 connection and four USB 2.0 connections. Is the Ethernet connection a possible iSCSI input?

recommended to use a 5400 rpm HDD with a high cache for more low disk area density eg. WD green

@asslister It uses it's own kind of RAID that makes use of it's own file system format and stuff.

I was thinking of getting/building a server in the future, do you recommend building your own, or buying a pre-built server system like this Elric?
TheDrunkenMantis 9 months ago
@TheDrunkenMantis
Build your own and install a distro, so that you can run services such as ftp/ Jdownloader/Utorrent/sickbeard on it.
