Most British comedians can impersonate Germans, but the way the late great Peter Cook manages to capture the glibness of James Last's personality remains breathtaking. Priceless ribald joke in German on the bus, incidentally.

yeah, peter cook is the most amazing comedian i've ever seen. saw most of his stuff on youtube, and i must say he puts all the great british and candian comics to shame...as for u.s. comedians, they run distant third.

What programme was this on? Absolutely fantastic! I've read and seen so much on Cook and never heard anything about this sketch. I love the bit about watching the traffic on the tv inside the coach - "Go through on amber, Fritz." Thanks, keep them coming.

I've updated the info with some details. It was broadcast in 1986 on "Saturday Live" which was a alternative comedy show broadcast Channel 4 in the UK. The show's remembered for launching for Ben Elton once he took over as full-time presenter, so everyone tends to forget the chaotic first year when it was a different presenter every week, and this was the week Peter Cook was presenter. (Other presenters included Pamela Stephenson and Chris Barrie before "Red Dwarf".)
