  • Firmware 3.0 killed my HD-A2. The update went fine, but the drive would no longer read any kind of disc. It worked fine before the update. Toshiba replaced the unit under warranty with an HD-A3.

  • Hello,.. it does'nt find a IP adres.

    Can you help me out?

    Kind regards,

    Johnny From the netherlands

  • Groetjes Johnny,

Sometimes the IP address doesn't show up until you exit the DHCP menu, and then return to the DHCP menu.

To recap the video: DHCP = On, DNS= On, select Confirm, select OK.

Then, exit the DHCP menu, wait 15 seconds, and then select the DHCP

menu again to see if the IP Address shows up.

You can also burn a CD as suggested by Belpowerslave.

Search "toshiba a2 firmware update" to find the iso file on Toshiba's Website.

  • I don't think the shaking picture is related to the firmware. I can only suggest to try changing the output resolutions 1080, 720. Also check the settings on your display. Check another HD DVD disc to make sure it isn't that. Good Luck

  • Thank you sir.

    I will try output resulutions.

But What is new after this update I made to 2.8. I don't see any difference at all.

Maybe you can explain the sense of update the thosiba E1 player ?

    Kind regards

  • Firmware version 2.8 added 50Hz disc compatibility and 1080p/24Hz output selection.

Is the disc you are trying to play PAL or NTSC?

Is the resolution on your E1 set to "up to 1080p/24Hz"?

Try changing it to "up to 1080p" instead.

From the SETUP MENU, select "Picture" > "Resolution setting" > "up to 1080p", then press OK.

  • ...lets check with uncle Jeb while were waitin' for the download. Yee-haw!

    Accurate information, yet very boring.

  • Yeah, because this was supposed to be of interest to people who don't have the player and aren't looking for straight-forward info about the update process. Where are the naked girls? The guys getting hit in the crotch with nerf bats?

I also think that manuals have too little plot and character development. There wasn't even a love interest in the A2 manual!

  • Good information. Still, the best way to update the firmware is to just get the firmware ISOs off any of Toshiba's sites, burn them and just run it straight off the disc. Goes down from 20 to 30 minutes to around 5 to 7. :)

  • @Belpowerslave

Toshiba does not offer anything on the a2 hd dvd anymore... Microsoft started that trend 'i think' and does not and will not offer updates or Support on Vista as of july 201. When I ran setup ... when I clicked on 'Confirm' at the dhcp page, that was the end.... it was used anyway..
