I dont believe for one second that if you or your son, daughter, mother, father etc were going to die from some horific disease would refuse a drug that could save them that had been tested on animals. The Final Solution: Every asshole who does this needs to be made to watch this done to his/her kids and forced to participate. While this is ocurring they should be housed as they have housed the animals they tortured.. They will be told from the start that as soon as their last remaining loved one is dead that they will go through the process themselves. I feel so bad for them. I do hope labs will do their best to treat their animals as humanely as possible. But, as far as animal testing, I can't imagine it ever ending, realistically. Unless everybody suddenly comes together to decide one day that it's ok if they and their loved ones die of diseases that could've been treated with further medical advancements, animal testing will always be necessary.
People who wish the lab techs and interns suffer for "what they have done" need to watch the people in this video more closely. Do you think the tech surveying the dead mice was happy about it? Did she sound it? And the tech at the end talking about morals? PETA shows the most extreme cases within the lab. Labs are labs, so animals aren't frolicking in the grass or being loved upon every waking minute, but most labs treat their animals humanely and provide proper food, water, and medical care.

It is absolutely terrible what this university is doing, and furthermore, something I haven't seen anyone mention, but what exactly are the Salt Lake City animal shelters doing charging 15-25 dollars for animals? They should know better than that! All animal shelters with any sense charge 100-200 dollars - not only does this detour people from easily purchasing the animals for what they deem as "disposable" purposes or even impulsive pet buying, but it also helps with shelter costs.
That is what I was thinking too. How can you let a cat go for $15 ??? Obviously, they didn't want him anymore and just got rid of him. Believe me, I have met some very unnice people voluntering in shelters. Some people volunteer just to spend their spare time, not because they really care about animals. It is the aweful truth. If I was in that shelter, there is NO WAY they would take that cat away for $15.

The problem is that they're not respecting their test subjects. If this is to improve human lives, we ought to be thankful for the animals who make it possible. IF we are going to test on them. These labs want to test (let's say birth control) and they can't even make sure that the mice and cats they test on are treated properly.

They do these experiments to test drugs and medical techniques that save human lives or to make sure that other chemicals are safe for human use. There is no unnecessary cruelty here.
The worst part is that all of those adopted animals could've been adopted by families. I hate the fact that animal shelters even exist. People should be responsible and stop over breeding and allowing their pets to continue to procreate. I help out with adoptions at a local shelter and I always can't help but wonder if they'll be okay - no matter how nice the person who adopts them seems to be.

@redbutterflynine no. they have not let the cats or dogs or any other animals go. i just barely got back from the protest held at the U of U about an hour ago. we protested for 3hrs and handed out flyers and chanted through a megaphone. we'll just have to continue to go back until they realize we are not going to take it.

THEY HAVE BEEN TORTURING ANIMALS for decades, and still have no cures. All of it is BS. However if responsible people owned these animals in the first place they would not be there.
While PETA stands for good things, they behave like children who can't get their way. Most of PETA's activists are fools with nothing else to do. Does PETA ever accomplish anything? 60 plus million a year in donations, and I personally haven't seen anything change in 20 years.

Anyway, animal testing is said to be a necessary evil. But, I see it as humans testing their unnatural practices on the wrong species. They should at least treat their test subjects with respect.

well problem is a lot of what is done could be avoided in their experiences. Like Neglect the animal's basic needs like water and all that.... also a dehidrated animal's organism response is no the same as a Human Hidrated, so don't tell me it's research for anyone's benefit. If it was that they would ensure the conditions are the same as human beings have.

One thing they neglected to mention is them putting the monkeys on an all Atkins based diet. and other such useless things. and by the way. The FDA has admited that 98% of the products and medications tested on animals in the US, fail the later. human test.

You saw the torture in this film and not a word from you on that! There is no need at all to use animals in experiments. Modern computer progs, in vitro and stem cells testing are far superior. There is big bucks in it for for people using animals though and it takes longer , more money in the labs pockets. ALL drugs HAVE to be tested on humans before general release. It is absolutely terrible what this university is doing, and furthermore, something I haven't seen anyone mention, but what exactly are the Salt Lake City animal shelters doing charging 15-25 dollars for animals? They should know better than that! All animal shelters with any sense charge 100-200 dollars - not only does this detour people from easily purchasing the animals for what they deem as "disposable" purposes or even impulsive pet buying, but it also helps with shelter costs.

That is what I was thinking too. How can you let a cat go for $15 ??? Obviously, they didn't want him anymore and just got rid of him. Believe me, I have met some very unnice people voluntering in shelters. Some people volunteer just to spend their spare time, not because they really care about animals. It is the aweful truth. If I was in that shelter, there is NO WAY they would take that cat away for $15.

If you REALLY think about it, what the university is doing isn't right to some extent. There were several tests that werent necessary. BUT at the same time, these animals they get from those adoption centers wouldve been killed after a few days anyways, so its either die; or have a chance at living and even helping the animal. 8 months of research and this is what they find, did you ever think MAYBE there was some advantages for some of the animals?

If this horror happens in all labs, they should be closed imediately, because nothing will come out of benefit to us (nor the animals, of course). The problem is that they're not respecting their test subjects. If this is to improve human lives, we ought to be thankful for the animals who make it possible. IF we are going to test on them. These labs want to test (let's say birth control) and they can't even make sure that the mice and cats they test on are treated properly.
While if a human does clinical drug testing trails, they're paid hefty amounts. I just think these animal subjects deserve our respect.

The worst part is that all of those adopted animals could've been adopted by families. I hate the fact that animal shelters even exist. People should be responsible and stop over breeding and allowing their pets to continue to procreate. I help out with adoptions at a local shelter and I always can't help but wonder if they'll be okay - no matter how nice the person who adopts them seems to be.

I'm fine with animal testing, but not like this: monkeys and apes are too intelligent to be ethically experimented on, especially since these are probably kidnapped from the wild (I've never heard of people breeding them). And taking away their water is wrong, too. And they need to be forced to care for the rats, if not because that's a waste of money for the researchers, then because that could mean that another rat has to die in its place. Sucks about those well-behaved happy dogs, too :(

Ok, if it wasn't for animal biological testing, we wouldn't have so many medicines, vaccines, or medical aids like artifical hearts or kemotheripy people need. Yes animal testing is a cruel and unfortunate thing, but if we didn't, polio, small pox, chicken pox, insulin, influenza, hepititus, amonia, and many more vaccinations would be non-existant.

The research department heads at the University of Utah need to be dismissed immediately. You or I would be charged with animal cruelty. Are these folks somehow above the law ? Where is thier sense of kindess and decency ? I am disqusted by this blantant disregard for life.
