This is truly wonderful ... that particular drum rhythm is sacred in both North and West Africa as you probably are well aware ...

It is likely to have spread to other parts of the Mediterranean via Cyprus and Crete.

Its a 12/8. I know it as a Moroccan 12. That last beat can be played as a single stoke or a double, as she does here, to bring it right back to the start. Great, mesmerizing rhythm.

That's a really nice piece of drumming. I wish the whole piece was on to see where it would go. Someone just started playing a little on top. The "drone" of the jiggles and the zils played wide open. Amazing.
