@wowrazzor I think 'cause it was a booth he had to keep it compact, but still have his signature cymbal setup, which still give him that classic JoJo sound. It's more of a show of talent than a showcase for the kit.
All I can say is, practice perfectly all of the "boring and stupid" stuff as much as you can possibly handle. rinse repeat. noodle just enough to keep it mildly fun. you all will become good if not great drummers. :)
@absolutezero6 the foot thing was him putting pressure on the bass head to make the pitch higher, same thing happens when you a tighten a head, more pressure, higher pitch.
Yeah you're right - I do it for breakfast. What does this guy think? :P Like he's good or something :) I'm sth about 4 times better - so let's battle man! :P
You know that he is good when this is the only video on you tube without a row going on in the comments. lol Nothing to debate really just amazing playing.
I'm telling you, these stupid Barker fans are everywhere. No matter what drummer you go to, some idiot Barker fan comes out of nowhere and starts trash talking. They're so dumb it's getting really funny.
@DCussen I know I have a neighboor at university who is like that and thinks Travis barker is the greatest drummer ever. Fuckin' annoying..Jojo mayer, Buddy Rich, John Bonham are my favourites
@grandmasterdeafchild The only difference between him and you, provided you have a natural sense of rythm, is desire, countless hours in the woodshed, and lots of professional playing experience. When I see guys like this, it reinforces that I can do it too and inspires me to play.
its not jabon. i dont know the name of it but its the song he uses the remo marching pad on. but he adds some of his other solos in it like the solo when he performed at bath university. there might be some licks from jabon though.
but hecks yes the solo at the end of jabon is possibly the best solo i have heard!
I know for a fact that the beat is mostly jabon because of the begining beat and the part where he goes from floor tom to cymbal, it's exactly jabon right there. And the beat is too fast. Plus, he and most drummers-if not all- switch up the solos, which is probably why you think it's far.
the best left hand i have ever seen - amazing technique - BUT he can groove like mad (that's the real key, man!). JoJo rules - I only want hear more & more!!!
with traditional grip fingers are placed from the fulcrum to the stick tip. in matched, reverse. traditional: therefore it's harder to "choke" the stick from bouncing and that sounds better on snare. matched: small and ring finger easily choke the stick and that (may) sound better on cymbals. my name is Tyanne Chianne Rhamdhanne and this is the truth about matched and traditional grip.
Is it just me that thinks he looks like the French guy from Ocean's 12, aka "The Nightfox"? :) (btw I know JM is Swiss.)
He's simply amazing at what he's doing. Plus, he's very nice too. I was emailing him once, and he answered within 24h. It led to a rather nice discussion about music. He's a really cool dude.
Yeah man that's awesome. I emailed him once asking for some advice on band troubles. He replied the next morning, and like you said, he's really nice (considering how busy he is). He is so casual and real about things, kinda like talking to a close friend.
He is (along with Akira Jimbo) my biggest and best influence in drumming and musical approach ever.
I think he practices individual pieces and then improvises putting them together when he plays. for instance the "echo snare" he does at the beginning I've heard in a couple of his videos, and some of the fills I've heard before
Dude, Jojo Mayer in an interview said you should stay true to yourself and that you should see your weaknesses as strengths. If you are hard-hitting, then just rock out man, if your heart is is in it then it will sound good.
he really is an amazing drummer. my niece audrey 6yrs old was so amazed with his talent. he really makes my niece more interested in playing drums more. thanks for sharing your talent to those who are inspired by you.
Though I do not like this style of music. I really like the playing of Jo Jo Mayer. He plays DnB beats on a real kit, and that is very hard to do. Good stuff.
he uses some kind of special sonor pedal where unlike most pedals that have the spring located on the right, his is located on the left presumably allowing him to slide his foot on and off the footboard on the right side of the pedal. probably so he can do some kind of heel/toe technique without having to kick the chain of the pedal everytime he does it. i think the pedal is probably a custom thing.
