  • Dang. That's just so wrong, so sick, I have to say "naughty."

Silverdale? I'm gonna have to trek down one of yer gigs.

  • Sounds like the groove Jaco plays on "River People" by Weather Report

  • HELLO MUM!!?,

  • Woah lefty try's still upside down?!?! Immature try this, just need another bass...hmmmm

  • I remember being at this show...amazing, funky, fun and an all around great time. I look forward to catching another of your shows in the very near future, like your upcoming show at the Manchester Pub.

  • great feel, sound and touch. we have found the elizabeth cotten of the bass !!

  • whats with you left handed upside down players, you are always brilliant players. and yes you are kimberley. ive just subed you looking forward to more cool bass playin really cool stuff,,,, rob from sunny westgate, well it is today.

  • HEY! You're playing upside down! Stop it! (LOL) Nice video.

  • You funked my brains out.

  • I think that you are out there in a good way because you are exspressing you. Very good timing. Start your improv with a solid funky bass line. and then add to it. change some of the tone to give your improve some depth and bottom It will make nastier than what it already is. seems like you ladies in this segment are doing your home work Great job keep on being and perfecting you. RAYZ12able

  • you must be the coolest lady ever!!1!

  • yo,i dig this very much.great groove.playing a good and mighty fine bassgroove is not a man,s thing.i have a great respect for you.groove on.

  • Sounds great! Nice work! : D

  • Very original sounds. As a fellow bassist I'm very interested in the story in why you learned with the strings as they are. I know other bassists that play in a similar configuration. Their story was that their brother had a right handed bass and they were left handed so they just picked the bass up as a left hander and after learning to play that way even their left handed basses were strung upside down. You know G,D,A,E from top down.

    Very tasteful playing as well!!!

  • God bless

  • omg learn to play

  • WOW - not sure I understand what I just saw (but I liked it)!

  • well thats a weird way of playing bass !

  • not quite les claypool.. but talented none the less

  • I am not worthy!!!

  • either thats one huge ass bass or she's a dwarfism victim

  • heh , cool

Are you still over in Silverdale? Do you make it out to Seattle?

  • nice moon

  • WOAH that sound u get thats like a sax is amazing! awesome, keep on playing!

  • This inspired me to go start working with my Digitech Jamman again (which has been collecting dust in my closet). Great playing!

  • Kimberley... you're a star and no mistake !!!

A truly stunning bit of Bass playing.. you've inspired me !!

    Thanks for that offering

    Bright Blessings

    Gary

  • I have never seen a woman groove like this. Spectacular playing :) What are you using to relay your tunes?

  • Do you have your strings reversed even though you are left handed? Nice thing. Greetings from a German left-hander :)

  • haha, i love it how your strings are arranged upside down... imma guess you picked up a right handed bass, and flipped it over without even rearranging the strings, still sounds great

  • All you guys are tards she is not that good

And why the eff does she have her strings upside down??

  • Yeah but does she play well with others.

  • river people! nice jam, my respects...

  • Took me a minute to realize you had the strings upside down! Good stuff!!

  • Sweet Midi work!!

  • Damn, That was SIC....

  • Much respect!! Diggin, your talent, first of all. And how you took a lh bass and strung it upside down!! I played a rh bass upside down for 20 yrs. before going completely lefty. I'll definitely be checking out more of your stuff!

  • that´s no lefthand bass but she play likes it is:D

    awesome!

  • Wow, my mind is blown. Incredible!

The best part about this though is that you genuinely appear to enjoy it. No musician has ever been entertaining without some investment in what they're doing. Like any good drama on the stage, the performance should leave the audience with something learned. I have certainly learned something from this performance.

Talent comes in all shapes, sizes, and mediums. In this case, the inventive use of a bass guitar can captivate.

    Thank you for this.

  • thats so sick. shes covering the guitar part on bass!

  • wow! when they say people who play bass are people that never learnt to play a guitar are obviusly not talking about you! you are just awsome! really nice!

    greetings from holland,

    drumkilla

  • did hendrix play lefty w reversed strings?

  • very good! :)

  • ???? ratt

  • great job.5. God bless.

  • WTF very nice.

  • very cool... love that sax effect.... what is that?

  • okay, this upside down strings thing has to be that they started out playing a right-handed instrument upside down and when they finally bought a left handed instrument, they were already comfortable with the upside down right that they simply tuned it that way for the left. Just now the knobs are in the right place. Unless I have missed something.

  • Funky As You wanna Be!.... Im digging the "synth-sax' too :)

  • nice

  • Awesome!

  • great effect!!!

  • HOWD YOU MAKE A SAXOPHONE COME OUT OF THE BASS?!?!?!?! o_o

  • probably a midi controller.. sounds like a good on for tracking! :)

  • why are your strings upside down?

  • lefty?..

  • @nx20007

nope i'm a lefty. that's a lefty bass with the strings upside down

    im confused

  • huh? so you are a lefty, but play with the strings in regular order ?

    im more confused ~X(

  • @nx20007

it's a lefty bass but the thickest string is at the bottom and the thinnest is at the top,

  • @dohead She started on a righty flipped, then bought a lefty to reach the high frets, but was used to the reversed strings. and kept the layout as it was on the flipped righty.

  • I really dig your lines. Nice phrasing.

  • mmm its because she haven't the 2 finfgers in the midle

  • U playing over a looper? pretty good stuff.

  • interesting left hand technique

  • weird...

  • amazing

  • go go sister! :)

  • you own...wwow!!! that was very very very cool

  • I dug that a lot!

    That was badass

  • that was awesome, great job!

  • I'm confused... is the bass upside down? looks to me like the E is on the wrong end. and is she left handed?

  • It looks like it as well. I know someone that plays lefty bass & guitar with the strings reversed.

  • my guess is she learned how to play bass on a righty bass upside down cus she's a lefty and got use to it and stuck with it that way. i know someone that play's bass this way also cus they are a lefty but have righty bass.

  • Hendrix play right upside down too

  • nah he didnt, he just had the guitar that way around, the strings were strung normally. doyle bramhall II does it though.

  • can't you see?

  • she has her own setup, there's no a rule about the position of the string's pal :D

  • well yeah, whatever floats your boat.

    PAL XD

  • i think she took a right hand and fliped it upsaide down and plays it recirse

  • Comment removed

  • Damn woman! you´r good!

love how your are experimenting with all the effects. sounds awsome. keep it up.

  • what is she doing with here left hand?? i dont get how 0_0

  • nice

  • aH! WHAT! you're usin' the midi pickup!? damn! please tell me how's it workin!!!

  • Hiya, :)

As you can 'hear' the GK3-B and GR-20 are working just fine. :)

I will say though that the latency/tracking *is* an issue that requires a lot of play time to learn 'how to compensate' for the lag but, it can be done. Tracks the low B just fine, (as long as I'm compensating). Each string tracks differently, (due to vibrations/frequencies of each string/note) so it's a character building exercise. Yeah that's it, character building. ;D

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • WHAT! and i thought you're amazing just 'cause your tone, impro ability, style, and skills, but...you compnesate that latency!

Girl, you're officialy my fav. and for me the best bass player in the world!

and it's great to see that you enjoy your instrument. i'm a bass player too, i don't consider myself and amazing bass player but i love to play this thing...i just love it!

  • Hiya, :)

Wow...talk about knowing how to put a smile on my face. Thank you! :)

I'm really glad you like my music and for the 'impact' I've had. Sweet! :)

  • what pedal? do u have to make loops on the spot

i want a bass multi effects pedal with that recording thing on it

  • It's a Boss RC-50 loop station. Works just fine. :)

  • You don't see too many ladies putting out this kind of funk. Good job. Not to sound sexist, cause you don't see too many fellas putting out this kind of funk either;). Really nice job.

  • All I can say i ... Wow!

  • you are an amazing bassist and i am inspired by your playing if your up to it i was wondering if you could help me by giving me some pointers

im trying to learn from different ppl with different styles

  • Hiya, :)

I'm glad you find my playing inspirational. :) A very nice compliment, thank you! :)

As far as advice, while sounding simple, it's truly the secret to learning and playing well. Practice, practice and then practice some more. Each and every time you play a note, it 'counts'. :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • ya excellent job, you rock, and practice is so true, doesn't matter how you practice, just liek you said every bit helps :) \m/

  • That's a HUGE bass!

You're great, love your playing style!

  • Second time I've answered your comment.

    Thank you! :)

It is a huge bass, but it's worth it. It rocks! :)

    Fantastic bass playing!

    Love it!

  • Thank you very much! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • Your playing style is like VERY unusual I'm amazed, specially on the fact that your picking technique is index and pinky fingers :O, how come??

  • Hi Carlos, :)

Glad you like my music! :)

I play with my index and pinky fingers due to a childhood accident that as coincidence would have it, the anniversary is today. Whoa.... ;D

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • this funky little ditty was a lot of fun to watch! i loved the way that you layered the sound on sound (via digital delay, i presume...???), and the crazy sounds that you were able to get from your instrument. not to mention those crazy licks that you were laying down.

    you're a bad-mamma-jamma!!! (wink)

  • damn!!! i am speechless

  • Great compliment, thank you. :)

  • whats that thing that she used to make the sound like a saxophone?

  • Roland GR-20 and a GK-3B pickup. ;)

  • many thanks!=)

  • Great job! You have a very unorthodox "main hand" (your left hand) style. It's almost a "clutch-like/closed hand style". An inspiration for ALL bass players w/ small hands. Awsome! I will check some of your other posts.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I didnt even know the GR-20 worked with bass. but good stuff though upside down guitar looks so awkward for me though, though also left handed I've always played left handed guitars so the strings are the right way up :P still though that was amazing! always happy to see people playing lefty

  • woah that must be difficult getting used to, unless u have always played upside down strings. great video, great song and sexy sounding bass. Xx

  • Girl you are one bad SISTA!!!! Thanks for the video!

  • Hiya,! :)

Thank you! Glad you liked my music and you're no slouch yourself! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • wow first time i see somebody playing with the strings order upside down,, really nice... and the playing great....

i guess you learned with a right handed bass, being left... if i am right is really impressive

  • Hi! :)

    Thank you very much! :)

You guess right, I learned on a right handed bass, played left handed 'upside down!. ;)

Glad you liked my music! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • Check -Jimmy Haslip from Yellow Jackets :) He plays not only 5 str, but also 6 str. bass, the same way...strings upside down.

  • Hiya, :)

Yeah, Jimmy Haslip is a bad dude. :) Another guy is Jeff Schmidt. Upside down stringing lefty.

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • awesome!

  • hey bwat kind of pedal is dat??

  • Hiya, :)

My second response to your question, thank you Youtube, though I guess you truly do 'get what you pay for'. C'est la vie. :)

    It's a Roland GR-20 synth. :)

    Best Regards,

    Thank you!

    Kimberly :)

  • Thank you! :)

    Best Regards,

  • can I have a baby with you? :)

you're playin' perfect, I fuckin love ya groove! xD

  • Definitely "Copped My Feel" - Love it; you make Alembic proud, Thanks -J

  • Hiya, :)

I answered this earlier but it''s disappeared ala Youtube 'mystery'.

    Thank you very much! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • is that a piezo on your headstock? couldn't be a right handed guitar, the knobs are on the bottom like they should be, it's just strung like a piccolo bass, high on top low on bottom. I always thought it should be that way, but I left that up to leo fender to decide

  • Hello, :)

Actually it's small stuffed polar bear mounted on my headstock. :)

I'm using a Roland GR3-B pick up for my synth interface located in front of the bridge pick up. :)

I believe a piccolo is 'conventional' string orientatation tuned an octave higher, though I could be wrong. ;)

My bass is a left handed instrument with factory installed saddles, tail piece and nut per my specifications to accomodate my upside down playing style. :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • I have seen piccolo like that. Most notably jeff schimdt plays one

  • Yep, Jeff is also one of the approximately 15% of left hand players that play with right hand (left handed upside down) stringing. :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • I might pick up a right handed bass for like 60$ and string it lefty, it be a good project bass to try out some of my ideas I don't want to try on my baby

  • Cool! Sounds like that'll be fun. :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • awesome, like the albert king style, great playing

  • Realy nice playing. I like it. Can you tell me what effect you use at 3:00 when it sounds like a saxophon? Where can I buy such a effect?

  • 'Coppin a Feel' baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • :)

    Thank you!

    Kimberly :)

  • Oooh that is awesome right there, it must have been very difficult learning playing virtually upside-down on a right-handed bass, no matter how your learned, this is really awesome!

  • Thank you! :)

    Kimberly :)

PS. Since this is the way I learned, it's natural for me and some people have even commented it makes sense from an ergonomics stand point. ;)

  • great sound :) ***** stars!

  • Thank you very Mmuch! Glad you like my music! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • Cool playing! Great cover!

  • Thank you! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • noossa , cara você toca muuuito mesmo , meu gostaria de poder tocar igual a você xD

  • Thank you! :)

    Kimberly :)

  • Well Done!

To be honest I thought it was going to be lame but you really took it somewhere. Keep posting

    CBreezy

  • Thanks Calvin! :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • Just a little question.

Why are you playing up-side down? I understand that it's unique and all that but I don't think it's really neccesary... (And I have nothing againts it, just a note for all the people out there who were probably going to start arguing with me).

And the even wierder thing too me was that you took a left handed bass and switched all the strings, insted of taking a right handed guitar and just playing it as a lefty...

  • Easy answer. ;)

I'm missing half of two fingers and my thumb on my left hand. :)

I play with the strings upside down because when I began playing I borrowed a bass and it was a couple of years before I owned my own. When I got my own I changed the strings to left handed, but they were all upside down so I switched them back. :)

As far as playing a right hand instrument, which I did for many years, the controls are in the way and they don't balance very well upside down.

    Kimberly :)

  • Thanks for the answer :)

  • You're most welcome. :)

    Best Regards,

    Kimberly :)

  • I could never play upside-down bass like that.
