I don't count Vietnam as a loss. We were never beaten - we never lost a major engagement in Southeast Asia. We left that country voluntarily. Then Congress, led by Sen. Ted Kennedy, defunded the South Vietnamese army in the fall of '74. It was just a matter of time from then on for the South Vietnamese to fold their tents and fall to the communists from the north. But don't tell me we lost Vietnam - politically yes, but militarily - a resounding NO!

@CHETxxxLEMON i just got back August 18th, stay motivated, keep up on PT on down time. if you get homesick dont be afraid to cry at night if u have to or talk to a battle buddy because they are all going through the exact same thing. just listen to what the drill sergeants tell you and youll do fine. write and get lots of letters thatll help you stay motivated. dont quit what ever u do DO NOT QUIT the fastest way to get home is to graduate. you'll enjoy it. good luck, and have fun

@lilbitscheer I don't have any experience with the armed forces, but I'd recommend you first graduate, then sign up, if by that time you still want to. A scholarship is a show of faith from a school, a sign that they trust you to do well and graduate. Don't throw that away.

@lgmmrm i wouldn't go as far as saying that the Army is more of a defensive force. for one that isn't entirely true, what about the Rangers, the Airborne, Special Forces. the first into Afghanistan wasn't the Marine Corps it was SF. watch national geographic's inside Special Forces. but i do agree with the without the Army the Marine Corps isn't anything. and so on. the first into Europe in WW2 was the Airborne. then leading the Beach Invasion was the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Mexico's Army may respond quickly but there's no way they're number 1. The US Army is currently involved in 150 (that's not a typo) countries providing humanitarian assistance. Also our officers do fight. I've been on missions with up to a LTC but I know for a fact that higher ranks wouldn't shrink from combat ops. Not dogging your Army but the US' is awesome.

I'm fifteen aswell and I weigh 172 pounds! I'm not fat, but I don't have a straight stomatch, and on the inside I'm actually in good condition with all the training I do in boxing.. I'm thinking about serving myself..Either that or law enforcement.

@Darusdei Who? We've only been through Revolutionary, 1812, Mexican-American, Civil, Spanish-American, WW1, WW11, Korea, Vietnam, Desert storm, and Iraqi. The only one we have lost is Vietnam. Mainly because most of America didn't support the war and China invaded and pushed us back. They didn't even defeat us. We pulled out. So that's a 1/11 of the wars we faught "lost".

@GreyWolfxM16 army is more of a defensive force, they hold ground, the marines take ground, the marines are the blitzers, they spearhead the attack, the army has a very important job as well, they are the occupation force, the put down any inusrrection There is no Greatest military branch, because without the Marines and Navy, Army wouldn't be nothing, same with marines, without the navy and army, marines wouldn't be able to hold ground, same with navy, and air force, well, like the A/C too much

@lgmmrm i wouldn't go as far as saying that the Army is more of a defensive force. for one that isn't entirely true, what about the Rangers, the Airborne, Special Forces. the first into Afghanistan wasn't the Marine Corps it was SF. watch national geographic's inside Special Forces. but i do agree with the without the Army the Marine Corps isn't anything. and so on. the first into Europe in WW2 was the Airborne. then leading the Beach Invasion was the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Mexico's Army may respond quickly but there's no way they're number 1. The US Army is currently involved in 150 (that's not a typo) countries providing humanitarian assistance. Also our officers do fight. I've been on missions with up to a LTC but I know for a fact that higher ranks wouldn't shrink from combat ops. Not dogging your Army but the US' is awesome.
