  • These babies will produced and fly soon again!! 26.01.12

  • i like the music and i like ekroplans

  • hell yeah. Ekranoplan! The biggest/baddest was the Lun class. Packing six launch tubes for the Moskit anti-ship missles, two pairs of 23mm cannons and could carry 100 tons. Ekranoplans can move inland for some distance if terrain allows it.

watch?v=WopbvjBMa3A for a soviet landing using ekranoplans in norway....

  • ссср the best

  • loser music

  • @Iilyhn Not intended to be a music video.

  • @Iilyhn dude I think it was well done, look at how fast these fucking things are going, the engineering to run gas turbine engines over salt water... the tragedy! Go Russians go! P.S. I am not a communist but I am poor hahahahaha and perhaps insane.

  • That how the Russians roll.

  • In soviet Russia, craft hover you.

  • i fukken love this russian brainexplosions.

i know a story of an ekranoplan , that can carry 1000tons, with 1000km/h!!!!!

  • OR! they could put longer wings on it and get off the water and actually fly...

  • @TLD346

The idea is to fly on the "airbag" that gets created when the aircraft is really close to the water. This baby could carry 300 tonnes of supplies. Tell me what other aircraft or ship can do that and move at a speed 430km/h ))

  • Great Idea very efficient but you'd need traffic control or there'd be collisions all the time.

  • Burt Rutan took a look at these in the '90's and is now toying with a design called the Rutan Model 372-3 for kit builders.

  • Shit music.

  • @franklinrwful Not intended to be on a music video.

  • @BLASTERsk8 that really doesn't matter. let's say i was thankful for the mute button right now =)

  • @franklinrwful Fuck you, Fatboy slim is dope as hell.

  • @franklinrwful first thing i noticed was the great tune, and only then your shit comment

  • this might beat the carrier ^_^

  • These once-secret Cold War era technology videos make me wonder what it would be like today, if we would have kept on that same fever pitch of development we had back then.

  • I really do love this video. You put a tremendous amount of work into it. These planes are incredible. Why we have not developed them in the West I will never know.

  • I want one...

  • It's like Comets. CHDB is famous from their series of hydrofoils.

  • 0:50 - убийца авианосцев (flattop killer), 0:59 - десантный транспорт (landing craft )

  • @gypuJlKa 0:50 лунь

  • i don't care, i love it! i'd love see their faces when i pulled up on a gold coast beach, i betya i'd super hornets on my ass in 5mins lol!

  • 1:37 - omg!

  • does it fly?

  • @E1e55ar Technically it is flying at a very low height. I seen photos of other surface foil craft actually flying. They aren't really designed to attain high altitude. The Russians aren't really going to show you the full abilities of these machines though.

  • This video sounds a whole lot better when you mute it.

  • crazy ruskies

  • Rostislav Alexeyev The great Russian engineer has created Ekranoplan

  • Who wrote in greek εκράνοπλαν at the end of video?

  • So you dumb russian has entered the realm of the WHALES! they will mount and pound the fuck out of that boats asshole

  • Экраноплан "Каспийский монстр".... Да, это вещь!!! Жаль из-за развала Союза он уже не может угрожать пендосам...

  • With that amount of engines, that thing must go like a rocket!

  • Awesome video! Music matches perfect!

  • @AbnormalCauses THANKS!

  • @BLASTERsk8 You mind telling me were u found the music? songs not available on iTunes....

  • @AbnormalCauses It's really called "Ya mama" by Fat Boy Slim.

  • @AbnormalCauses Look up Fat Boy Slim's "Ya mama" here on YouTube too. Great stuff!

  • @BLASTERsk8 the song is Push the tempo by fatboy slim

  • @ExtremeLonely360 It's really called "Ya mama" by Fat Boy Slim. Sorry

  • This Machine would be devistating if they used it as a hit and run naval ship!!!

  • This design sure wastes tons of thrust...maybe if it went past Mach 5?

  • What no brakes? Nice stop into the bushes and on to the beach, bad idea.

  • russia says fuck your hover craft

  • look at a place from wwii called the von lipish design, they copied the concept

  • @royalmaster203 concept isn't a working machine

  • Saw this on 60 Minutes years ago. Think the CIA called it the Caspian Sea Monster. A ground effect vehicle that could cross water at high speed, under radar, and hauling a large number of troops. If I recall, it became a victim of politics -- I don't remember the details, but its backers lost out.

  • @acebongboy Yes they did, call it the Caspian Sea Monster, the Russians taught a boat to fly!

  • @acebongboy The reason it lost out to "politics" was most likely that it wouldn't work on the high seas, where hitting waves at 500 km/h has a surgeon generals warning attached to it. The mere fact that it was forever confined to the Caspian sea, for all strategic purposes, a domestic sea, killed it. If it had been able to cross even the tiny Baltic sea, it would have.

  • @ulvenstein Alexeyev's first models couldn't operate past 3 Beaufort scale, it's true (One here is "Orlenok" I believe). His later model was designed to operate at 6-7(high wind - moderate gale). Coupled with high speed under radar, immunity to mines, supersonic rockets, quick delivery and evac. of troops, -concept wasn't bad at all.

So storm resistance had room for improvement, but Alexeyev's demeanor hadn't. :-( His unwillingness to compromise - was at least as damaging as technical flaws.

  • awesome video and great song!!

  • @dogfightvj I didn't make the music or the shoot the footage unfortunately. I just put them all together. Thanks for diggin' it.

    1,000,000 + hits! Hoowah!

  • Does anyone know if anyone else besides russia made ekranoplanes.

  • So, what hapen when the sea is bad ?

  • @Alexvideoclip Do not ask^^

  • goes up to 8000 meters, just use more fuel

  • They seem to do pretty well on the ground.

  • @granthemenway It has been used by soviets to move thousands of troops under the radar. The caspian sea monster was the first the west had seen of ekranoplan technology and by then soviets had been using it for years.

  • more trash do you need to make evry thing big lol sad f ahole

  • @granthemenway far in the planning stages? THESE THINGS ARE REAL!

i'd be stoked to see one with a hull, that could take me to work

  • The Caspian Sea Monster.

It was an experimental 550-ton military ekranoplan. Although it was designed to travel a maximum of 3m above the sea, it was found to be most efficient at 20m height, reaching a top speed of 300kn; 350mph; 560 km/h. So basically, a ship doing 300mph, under the radar, with an armoured battle-group as cargo.

Experiments were done in Sweden before WW2, & then developed in Russia & the USA.

  • @archolman. I exaggerated about the battle-group :)

  • @archolman. I exaggerated about the battle-group :) But, the point was to have the ability to launch a massive invasion across any small sea, e.g. Baltic, Black, Caspian, before the defending forces had time to concentrate. With the agility & speed of a large aeroplane, & the capacity of a small ferry, a squadron of these could have piled massive mixed troop concentrations onto an extended beach-head before NATO could react. They could also operate along rivers, & overland to a degree.

  • Krazy Kommies...!

  • You can see Ekranoplan "Lun" on the Google Earth:

    42`52`54`65`С

    47`39`23`35`B

    Russia,Kaspiysk.

  • @LateNightCable it wasnt designed to fly, hense its stubby wings, so it couldnt/wouldnt take off!

  • @MrHazzy125. It did fly, using the principle of 'Wing in Ground-Effect'. Look it up, then you can talk informed bollocks.

  • Secret?

  • A large seaplane that barely flies, okay that was pointless. The Russians sure know how to burn some gas though.

  • @LateNightCable It was designed to transport vehicles ect quickly without using as much fuel as a plane, so no, not pointless. Besides, can't you appreciate the technology and ingenuity of it, rather than being cynical?

  • @DogsCantEatGrapes I'm sure there was a point behind it, and I can appreciate it for what it is. But the lack of serious development shows there is no pressing need for anything like it, that hasn't already been met by more conventional means.

  • @LateNightCable Their lack of technology during the period in which it was made meant that this was pretty much as good as they could get. And there were more conventional versions of the Ekranoplan that you can find today; Much smaller, sturdier versions more designed for western passengers. I fail to remember the name of the craft but it is more advanced than the Ekranoplan, technology-wise.

  • @LateNightCable If I may correct you, a large boat which floats above the water.

  • ...and when does it fly?

  • @avdenego. . It did fly, using the principle of 'Wing in Ground-Effect'. Look it up.

  • @avdenego. . It did fly, at 350mph, using the principle of 'Wing in Ground-Effect'. Look it up.

  • Great video but lousy music. Would it be possible to label the clips so that we can tell what they were? The concept of a water skimming craft has been around a long time and in Russia where distances over wetlands are vast these skimmers are actually quite practical. Yet we see very little about them because fighters are perhaps more photogenic?

  • I love the innovation of the Russian's...they always push the design envelope in interesting, new ways.

  • Looks like on water they work great (aside from that whole aluminum in saltwater thing) on land they look like a pretty rough and destructive ride! I think we need to focus on more efficient engines rather than using ground effect to reduce fuel consumption...theres just too much stuff to hit at that altitude.....or lack thereof!

  • Seeing an Ekranoplan of these dimensions would be a really awesome view. Pity that the only KM in existence crashed. For the curious ones: An Orlyonok A-90 is at 55°51'6.07"N 37°27'22.75"E at the Museum of the Navy in Tushino district. Moscow and a Lun is at Kaspiysk at 42°52'55.10"N 47°39'25.22"E. (As on 2011-05-20)

  • i agree with Maksimov

  • Seems this would have severe problems in rough water. If a wing hit a wave at speed it seems it would tear it apart.

  • invented by germans .. of course

  • @jimpornse

Rostislav Evgenievich Alexeyev was a designer of highspeed shipbuilding. He invented and designed the world's first Ekranoplans. His work has been compared to that of A.N. Tupolev in aviation and S.P. Korolev in space flight.

  • Ага... так вам все секреты и выдай )))) Этот проэкт так и не был реализован.

  • nice video but someone has the answer What is an Ekranoplan?

  • @anticristony Its a ground effect vehicle or basically a plane that can only fly up to 140 feet. They ride on a cushion of air made between the wings and the water. They can hold about twice the amount of weight of a normal airplane. It can carry about 1000 tons of soldiers and 6 nuclear missiles up to around 340 mph. It pushes about 229,000 lb ft of thrust. Biggest disadvantage is maneuverability, they can't turn to avoid obstacles fast enough.

  • Haha, its a contradiction, to call this a secret russian transport , on youtube.. Now we all can see it, its not secret anymore... is it ?

The person who posted this, could better use the title :"Former secret Russian Transport" . hehe. anyhow, nice to see some strange airplanes.

  • Perfect for wakeboarding with.

  • These things can carry 540 tons of cargo twice as much as the Antonov 225 which is the biggest heavy lift plane in the world.

  • The russians designed this as a military craft, but wouldn´t it be cool if we had that for passenger, i.e. for transatlantic flights.

  • Ahaa, see this is where you wrong. The Ekranoplans fly over the ocean several meters, waves did not effect them. (hard to see the distance on video) If that was the case, they wouldnt have been built, to spend and invest so much money if they couldnt not overcome such a simple obstacle.

  • Russia made some weird stuff, but it is pretty cool. They could take a brick of cowshit, and make it into the most devastating weapon ever built.

  • Russia sure don't make 'em pritty!

  • Great vid xD especially at rocket launch xD 1:28

  • @DaNukeOff Thanks!

  • The aircraft carrier killer.

  • I would really hate to be a passenger in that thing of the coasts of south africa. The waves would do you in for sure!!

  • thank you for showing but lol in description it says secret whats so secert abou tal the vids on youtube XD

  • made in RUSSIA !!

    long live mother !

  • this plain can take 1000 soldier one time , i whos see this in tv in 80 ,s like new great somthings

  • HOLY CRAAAPP!!!!! i didnt even know about this one.....!! that one looks epic but... i dont really get .. what the heck is that a speedboat or flying boat machine??? =*)

  • @antonov225flier

It's a ground effect aircraft - it flies, but can't fly higher than what you see in the video.

Because it doesn't have contact with water during it's flight, it can reach extreme speeds in comparison to other vehicles you usually find on the water surface.

It also isn't affected by anti ship mines or anti air radar.

It's roles could have been landing craft to transport and drop off people, vehicles and cargo and ship hunters when carrying missiles on it's back.

  • i would like to skim from hawaii to japan in this lol

  • Those missile launchers look like something from an old submarine.

  • You can still see one of theese on google earth, wrecked up in the city of Kaspyisk on the west coast of the caspian sea.

  • They were designed to do one of a few things. ASW work (The smaller one), deliver 300 tons of cargo or be mobile ballistic missile platform (the bigger one lol). Due to how low they fly with their ground effect, they cant really turn, making themselves more of an airborne train without rails.

Needless to say, long range missiles, the fall of the soviet union and moving towards a peace initiative doomed these elegant giants to sit and rust.

  • OMG FIRST TIME SEEING THIS THING IN ACTION THANKXXX

  • Very Impressive Plane Indeed, Specially The 8 Nose Mounted Engines Look Kool.

Also Looked At Another Video Of This Plane by Swisstestpilot Where Its Shown Under Construction. Russian Construction Is Awsome & Tough.

But Seriously What Is An Ekranoplan? What could V Do With This Sort Of A Platform ?

  • these are ground effect craft

  • what is that

  • wow russians are best enginners shame antonov the 2nd one never finished built and this never really finished i read it was 90 % done

  • an ekranoplan song - myspace.com/dyingeye/music/songs/Ekranoplan-76096059

  • thx for making this video

  • @SinnedP1 Thx for digging it!

  • @BLASTERsk8 Love these things - but what the hell happens if there's swell/waves?

  • @fishybishbash

supposedly these can fly even in somewhat bad weather / sea conditions - some were damaged by collisions with water during tests though.

  • cool video -- thx !!

  • @extremeweatherfilms Thx back at you. Glad you liked it.

  • How awesome would it be to drive/fly this thing!

  • And why it doen't just fly??

  • Actually it is a Plane Made by a Russian who's name I can't pronounce

  • Reactive boat!

it has 300 miles per hour speed on the water :O

  • FAT BOY SLIM - Yamama (music)

  • reminds me of METAL SLUG

  • German snitchers are following me on youtube and imediately flag my postings

TheBND,exGESTAPO,tortured my brother Markus Bott during 5.5years.He was murdered on 11.7.09.Dont believe Germans telling you how democratic and changed Germany is.And:Dont believe the hateful lies they are spreading against other countries like the US,Russia or China

Germans only regret having lost the war. They did not give up the idea of world domination

Thumbs up if you want the BND to stop torturing and murdering

  • @wwwtotalitaerde

Give it up, will you? No one believes this crap you spam.

  • its like a plane only ... its not ... well maybe...no wait its not...

  • USSR loaned these planes to the polish army along with 10,000 toilets and told them to invade canada...the polish army could not figure out how to drive the toilets so the planned invasion failed..,the cold war ended, russia went bankrupt and sold their entire fleet to chuck norris.....its true!

  • @JRINE7373 HAHA!

  • @JRINE7373 The original owner of this account died laughing from thatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

The person writing that comment died from the same comment.

Lol nice job in history class.

  • @JRINE7373 I believe you-thats totally plausible

  • @JRINE7373

Tardo, this is ground-effect transport, not a plane.

  • Russian build better machines with half the money and in half the time than americans... that says a lot. A genius doesn't need two billion dollars to build a plane (check B2 Bomber)

  • the aircrafts were very big, what were they for?

  • @kwfine World domination, of course!

  • @BLASTERsk8

Why else would you take ideas from James Bond movies?

  • @kwfine

they are transport vessels. they fly very fast a fewf eet above sea level and held troops and equipment.

  • Awesome - just read about this in Gibson's Zero History.

  • They show one of these in Flight Simulator X in the Tokyo Executive Transport mission. Really cool!

  • @CJpilot316 Cool! Thanks!

  • holy shit

  • I don't get why this is so significant just why not have a full plane that goes way up in the air that can also land on water instead of staying so close

  • @caddyking444 I think it was because of it's ability to run below radar and above sonar at high speeds, then being able to park on a beach and dump out tons of troops and gear and tanks, or whatever, very quickly. Imagine a whole fleet of these unexpectedly showing up on your doorstep.

  • @caddyking444 When you fly within a wingspan or less above the ground/water you are experiencing "ground effect" which reduces drag, increases lift and therefore efficiency. It takes a lot of fuel and big engines to put all of this weight up in the air and climb to altitude- plus the necessity of a bigger wing structure.

Plus the afforementioned advantages of staying under radar and deploying troops on beaches. These are so cool.

These things had to be made of steel, correct?

  • @caddyking444 By using ground effect, it is a very efficient way of transport,so less fuel is required, along with less power, but still maintaining high speeds, and as blastersk8 said, below radar an above sonar levels.

  • are these still in service?

  • i hate communism but i have to admit that the former soviets were geniuses.

  • What happens with whale strikes happen to the plane? Which are common with ships, wouldn't the thing be destroyed.

  • It's a very efficient method of lift. But I'd say the major problems with this would've been the crippling maintenance time requ'd. God knows how lengthy a corrosion prevention program would be needed to maintain a fleet of these. And no doubt there would be frequent birdstrike issues.

All that asside, it sure as hell is a beast of an aircraft. It's the Landrover of the air and sea!

  • @K1w1scot

Ah, the rust factor. Great point!

  • i know that planes are done by taking into account a lot of aerodynamic factors and stuff... but this is probably the ugliest plane I ever seen

  • Nicknamed 'orlyonok'.

  • Sweet idea fly under radar. You can get a whole company inland in no time. Terrific plane!

  • Thums up if you think a beach attack with these things would be aweosme

  • You can now buy these through Bentley Yachts, fully pimped for a cool $75-128 million, with garages for boats and cars as well as luxury fittings, the wings make an excellent sun and swimming deck. Capable of intercontinental ranges at speeds over 300kph, able to land in sea states that would freak out any sea plane pilot. Impressive is an understatement. Every cashed up hedonist should have one.

  • @AK40fication - Awesome.

  • Thumbs up if you want to see a video of one hitting a WHALE!!!!

  • I know one thing that could bring one of those thingsdown. A breaching whale.

  • Who else just read Zero History and decided to search to find out wtf an ekranoplan is?

  • @bonepeeler I just did.

  • that thing just goes right up on land at that speed? thats fuckin durable!

and i wonder how they get it back off land haha
