Oh! and are medieval reenactments popular in England because stateside no one really seems to care about civil war reenactments except for "historians and racists"?
@Cardoniman Well there not modern English, their old English
or Anglo Saxon - Angles. England as a recognisable culture and language will be begin to appear till around the 14th century, but it wouldn't be wrong to call the English. A and E was kindof a mixed up letter in those days.. Most people say Anglish rather then Engle though.
@northreach not the head honchos. i meant the little guys like the militia. im pretty sure the historian at the time didnt record the names of every1 who died :3
@MrFizziXs lol being really into anything obviously makes you a nerd and idiot....it's much better to be boring, unmotivated, lazy and only do what everybody else does....
@FroaggaLaMajaga it's alright. Everybody who was ever furthered the resistants of humanity was a nerd. Leonardo da Vinci was a nerd. As was Michaelangelo, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Plato, Einstein, Picasso and every genius who ever lived. Shall I tell you a secret?.... nerds are cool.... particularly the kind of nerd that re-create the battle of hastings
@northreach In my opinion, it's not really possible to not be a nerd about something. Either you're a nerd about Star Wars or WoW, or you're a nerd about baseball statistics or Twilight. Same difference.
@300warrior300 We're going to start throwing around insults? I thought I'd be nice enough to give you a chance to explain yourself, I guess I'll just make you look stupid.
Education? How does a re-enactment educate you?
Imagination? Do you even comprehend what a Re-Enactment is? There is no room for imagination in pre-scripted recreations of something.
Entertainment doesn't further the existence of humanity in any way.
@AinokeatoProductions Education: A great deal of care and attention is taken to make sure everything is researched and accurately made. Each re-enactor is an expert in his field so the public can discuss history and be educated in how our ancestors actually lived. Living History can also supply unique information to historians and archaeologists. For example after re-enactors built an Anglo-Saxon cottage, it was discovered that Historians had got the design wrong for hundreds of years.
Imagination: The events themselves are extremely stimulating for the imagination. A great many artists and crafts people thrive on the platform that Re-enactment gives them, In creating mast pieces of creativity. Making ancient swords, musical instruments and pieces of art, pottery, or metal work-to name only a few
@300warrior300 This takes absolutely no imagination as once again, everything created is based off an original design. It takes little to no imagination to create something that already has been created. It's like saying you've discovered something first when there are people who've been there before you.
@AinokeatoProductions Entertainment: Entertainment doesn’t further the existence of humanity? Lol yes it does. Why did Shakespeare write his plays? Why did Mozart compose his music? Why did Walt Disney make his films? Why did Leonardo Da Vinci serve as court painter, entertainer, and musician? Some - maybe most- of the greatest treasures of humanity were made to entertain.
@300warrior300 How did any of this further the existence of humanity? What did Shakespeare write that shook the foundation of Humanity at its core? Mozart, Walt Disney, or Leonardo Da Vinci? It did nothing to further the existence of humanity, further, Leonardo did not further human existence through his paintings, rather, his inventions.
Leonardo revolutionized painting and art. He also was an early master of perspective and anatomy. Even more importantly, He pioneered the technique of Sfumato and Chiaroscuro, which allowed an almost photographic modelling of form. This scientific approach to painting, ushered in a new age. Inspiring the super realism of Caravaggio‘s day, where man could, for the first time could record the world around him.
@AinokeatoProductions Understanding: Living History gives the Re-enactors an amazing understanding of what life was like in ancient times. Whether your practising falconry, Working a 15th century cannon, or starting a fire with a tinder box, it it gives you a breath-taking view into the past.
@AinokeatoProductions@AinokeatoProductions Leonardo’s practical machines had very little impact. Most of them were simply dreams that were never built. The few that where- for example the robotic knight and lion-were generally built to entertain.
I don't recall saying anything about shaking humanity to it's core. Something that furthers the existence of humanity is simply something that shapes culture and furthers our understanding of ourselves and of the nature of the world around us.
@AinokeatoProductions . I don’t think I have time to explain how each individual affects us today, indepth. They have each had a profound influence on human culture.
As for having no imagination in copying a design….You may as well say a poem takes no imagination as the poet does not create the language or invent writing .
@AinokeatoProductions An expert will approach their work the same as the Saxons artist would 1000 years ago, with imagination, inspiration and skill. The re-enactor draws in the style of his ancestors, that does not mean he cannot be an artist in his own right. You cannot separate Re-enactment and imagination, because Re-enactment is a re-creation and re-imagining of the past.
@MetalForever264 wat do u expect? killing bloodshed? dude it's a reenactment of a pivotal battle that happend hundreds of yrs ago if they rlly fought they'd deem it to dangerous and destroy that part of history
sometimes i wish we got back to these days, i would probably be a barbarian even tho barbarian's weren't asian. i would rape and pillage villages and be sooo ruthless. but i wouldn't mind being a knight too, they look so elegant
@deathfromasian oh and they should change from fake metal swords to something like nerf swords so that they can swing harder and it would look more realistic
Willam's first strategy was to weaken the defenses of the Saxons, by using a rain of arrows from archers. He then sent his foot soldiers in to further weaken the defenses of the Saxons. He discovered that his strategy against the Saxons was failing. He then sent his knight calvary mounted on horses to break through the shield wall of the Saxons. The sequence of events in this video are all wrong.
rofl it's hard to do a proper re-enactment with horses due to the fact your not actually trying to kill eachother xD But still, awesome and looks like great fun.
@FrisianDude If we hadn't invented gunpowder, we'd have horse archers. By about 1300 England was one of the greatest military powers in the world due to the longbow, and many archers were mounted. Take a look at the Froissart Chronicle, particularly the illustrations of the Battle of Blanchetaque during the Crecy campaign.
Hold on here!!! The Britons never rooted for the Normans! They fled north and west, not to Brittany!! The Bretons were Gaulish/ Frankish, and yes, they supported the Normans. And by the way, the word "Briton" comes from the Latin mispronunciation of "Pretanni", the native pronunciation, named after the Pretannic islands {Ireland and Albion} The Romans were too damn stupid and pronounced "Pretannica" as "Brittania".
Don't even try to back-fire on me: I have a doctorate in European History.
no, they're not franks, perhaps you should look at some history books....or even wikipedia. By the time they fled to Brittany they would have been very Romanized. And would have used the Roman name for them selves.
@northreach no exactly ,the origin of immigration Breton , it was the Romans , under Maxim who called in the fourth century to the Breton contingent(insular) from across the Channel to fight against the Saxon pirates in Armorique (Brittany), Breton immigration has been on a long duration between the fourth century until the seventh century, the first troops were sent to Armorique and settled in the areas most threatened .I know the history of my country ;)
Funny thing is, a bunch of people are rooting for the Saxons, yet they are probably of Norman descent. Even if they were of Saxon descent, the Saxons were raiders from Germany. They would have to be of Celtic heritage. The Celts are the original "owners" of the country. If anything, they should be angry their land was stolen, then stolen again.
@DukeofWiltshire Nah most people at the event would have been of Saxon decent. The Celtic Britons were basically wiped out and the rest fled to Brittany in France, and became the Bretons. The Bretons were fighting on the Norman side at Hastings! There weren't all that many Normans that came over after the conquest and they didn't mix for a very long time.
@northreach Actually its more likely that people from the south of England are more Norman than those from the North, who would be mainly Viking/Saxon.
I was there as a spectator (and lead the hissing of the Normans and Bill the B) and give all the re-enactors kudos for doing such a great job.
