@jcsv12345 Didn't you see my ship dive? It dove under the water. Doesn't that count? :D Actually, it's very hard to film submarines because they are so rare in the hobby. I film them whenever I get the opportunity, though.
@MrPEliason I bought the ship used and refitted it, so I don't know where the plans came from. You can get a fiberglass hull (and plans) from Bowning Shipyards in Australia, though.
I decided not to arm the guns because I didn't have room for CO2 bottle, guns, and torpedoes. I dropped the CO2 bottle and guns in favor of torpedoes, because the torpedoes pack a much more powerful punch against larger opponents.
@tacticalking161 The Spahkreuzer hull is only available from Bowning Shipyards in Australia, but you can get many other hulls from Battler's Connection and Strike Models, both of which are in the US.
"torpedoes" in model warship combat are 1/4" ball bearings, just like battleship shots. The difference is that torpedoes are fixed off the side, usually with good downward angle for putting holes below the waterline.
@jam9357 Jam, please read a few other comments before posting. I answered your question just one week ago. If you want a ship, check out Strike Models. They sell hulls, cannons, and most of the other stuff you need to build your own combat warship.
@AtLastAtLeast Of course, so long as they are within the correct time period and scale. I have actually seen and fought against several subs, and I'm planning to build my own in a couple years. The big challenge is fitting all the regular submarine running gear, plus weapon systems, plus damage control and other combat- related hardware into a hull the size of a destroyer. It's not easy, even for the best shipbuilders, which is why there are so few subs.
@Mrblaze0505 Yes, Subs are allowed to dive, if you can get it working reliably. Armament-wise, they get the same "torpedo" cannons (1/4" ball bearing cannons) that any other torpedo-armed warship would get. This is a very powerful weapon, if you can hit with it. The challenge, of course, is hitting with it.
That "box thing" is a shore defense battery. It's a gun in a box that meets the same penetrability and sinkability requirements as regular ships. It is used to protect docks from bombardment and to discourage blockading of ports.
Seeing as how a rotating, reloading cannon like that is one of the most expensive single parts of a ship, it's not much more expensive to build a torpedo-armed cruiser. if you bought all the parts (most people fabricate their own) you can expect to spend about $150 on the gun, and about $150 on other parts (co2 bottle, regulator, radio, structure, pump, etc.)
Shore batteries are very rare, because most people prefer mobile gun platforms to stationary ones.
Only one ship that I know of has ever been lost for good. That was in Florida, in a gator-infested pond, and the only reason it wasn't recovered was because of the gators. In rare instances, though, it may take days to locate and retrieve a ship.
That's the emergency float. It's connected to the rest of the ship by a 15-foot-long string, to mark where it sank and aid in recovering it later. It sank in shallow water this time, but other times I haven't been so lucky.
Actually, they're moving a little over 60% of true scale speed. What you're noticing is the apparent time dilation caused by working with models. While I could calculate that and then compensate for it in the video, I'd get an unacceptably low frame rate and nobody would want to watch it anyway.
Correct. The aft superstructure acts as a marker for recovery, and it is connected to the rest of the ship by a long string. Since it sinks in shallow water, it's not really necessary, but helpful in other areas of the pond. For more information, take a look at rcnavalcombat (dot) com
I Still dont understand what makes the bbs shoot off and how to get the cannons them selfs do you make them or what? and cant someone like cheat if your using bbs hide in a tree and shoot at the other teams with a sniper high power... yet thats cheating still would be funny..
All of the cannons are custom-made by the shipbuilders. They operate using liquid CO2 pressure, in a similar fashion to paintball markers. Theoretically it's possible for someone to cheat by hiding in a tree with a high-powered bb gun, but then again we would pick up on it pretty quick, and engineers who build RC warships with functioning cannons can be pretty creative when it comes to... punishing... an offender, once caught. And most of it would be perfectly legal, too :)
"units" are part of a different club, that uses vastly different rules from mine. In that club, one "unit" represents either one cannon, with 50 bbs, or one bilge pump for damage control. My club, on the other hand, allows you to put in as many guns as the historical ship had.
You can't "buy a new one". Each ship is custom-made by its owner, and generally takes six to twelve months to build. When a ship sinks, you swim out to recover it, flush out the electronics with rubbing alcohol, and patch up the holes in the hull. Then it's good as new, and you can go back out and fight again. Average "down time" for a ship is about 30-45 minutes, but we have a hour-long break between battles to make sure everyone gets their ships working again.
That's called a "shore battery". It's basically a cannon in a floating box. It is penetrable and sinkable just like all the other vessels on the water.
It's not "neutral". It's assigned to one team or the other. In general, it is loaned out to skippers whose ships aren't working right or potential new members.
Yes, the armor on a shore battery meets the same standards of penetrability that any other ship does, and the shore battery itself is definitely sinkable. I sank that one myself two years ago.
The conning tower is a recovery float. The New York Class Battleship im building the center turret between the fore and aft tripod mast`s is a float attached to the battleship with nylon cord. Makes it easy to find your sunken ship if theres a cable/rope you could follow down to your craft.
3) buy a fiberglass hull and cannons, and build the rest from scratch
Options 1 and 3 are the quickest methods to get a ship. Do a web search for Battler's Connection, BDE RC, or Bowning Shipyards to get a fiberglass hull.
this is pritty cool how much will it coast to get one of theses or how much will a kit coast all together, ya know to make the boat fully functional. radio, turret the works?
Yes. Fishing line with floats is used to simulate mine fields. It gets tangled in the props and slows down the victim. It can be very effective, but can also be a double-edged sword, especially if your allies don't hear you when you warn them where you laid the mines. Also thinking of dragging a fishing hook to catch submarines since we aren't allowed to use pyrotechnics or explosives.
The gun platform represents artillery batteries on the shore. I believe that particular one is based on a turret from the battleship Gneisenau that was removed and used as a fixed shore defense battery in Norway. It also happens to be a lot of fun to use.
Not as much as you might expect, but more than a cheap RC toy. Depending on size, complexity, and armament, a combat ship can cost from $200 to $1500, with most battleships weighing in at about $1000. But, as you can see, it's worth every penny.
We have strict rules against using pyrotechnics. It runs the risk of lighting the wooden ships on fire and causing irreparable damage. It would also be a direct violation of our insurance policy and our agreement with the local water district that gave us permission to use their pond.
Denmark is still a 10 hour drive from here. so that won't be an option.

There is a Danish Model Taskgroup that does model warship combat in Denmark. Thats a bit closer to you than Canada, Australia, or the US. You could also start your own club, if you want.
Each ship has one or more cannons mounted on board. Most can rotate, but the Spahkreuzer is too small to fit a rotating cannon, so it's fixed in place. What you saw at 0:35 is a shore defense battery, and has a single rotating triple-barrel cannon.
Haha that was great. Was talking to a friend about these just today at work.Looks like heaps of fun,but alot of work involved to get them working just right.
I've never seen anything like this before, are the guns on the ships themselves or are you just shooting from the shore? it DOES look pretty cool either way...but a little expensive, no?
