Very few troops in Afghanistan are actually being blown up. Most of our guys are shooting down people from helicopters and fortified vehicles. It's actually very safe to be a soldier in Afghanistan (unless you're a Talib or anti-American).
Regardless, having your lower leg knocked out of place like that is definitely grounds for crying.
