  • EY GOOMBADEY!

  • I love this song! If you don't know the words in english, well, like:)

  • love it

  • I love this song!!!!

  • I taught my daughter this song when she was 3, she's 38 now and we still sing it!

  • I can't believe that nobody knows who this is singing here . . . or even ask who it is!

    I know----it's Julius LaRosa!!

  • great song and brings back memories of when i was growing up

  • I love this song, my dad had this on old 78 way back in the 60-70's. It was very popular when he was a kid. I heard this recently in the Verona Restaurant in Alexandria, LA. and couldn't remember the name. The owner Tony (who is a gen-u-wine Italian) gave me the title and I decided to youtube for it. Think I'm going to run down the CD.

  • Now if only this was how they taught languages...

  • Thanks iorg

  • i love the fact that i have an italian backround! as my nonna would say to all of us "Goda Blessa you" (r.i.p nonna) but i gotta say i am so proud to have italian blood in me, especially when we won it all in '06 baby!!!!!!!!!

  • This song makes me proud of the fact that I'm 50% italian.

  • 13 people aren't Italian

  • We had this record growing up. My dad bought it for us. Brings back memories.

  • I think our wonderful Italian friends have it right. We in the US work under stress levels that put many people into an early grave. There is a time to work, & a time to enjoy life in general. We Americans have forgotten about the last half of that. I lived in Europe and saw how they approached life. Outstanding attitude. Good wine or beer, good food, good music, good communication between family...living life as it is meant to be. Savor life & enjoy its treasures. Ciao! Peace. Bear

  • @BearyHairy

  • this song will always remind me of my late grandfather. We put this on his funeral video.

  • @italianman1992 Very endearing to hear bro. I think all Italian children have heard this song from their Nonni and it's a great part of our upbringing. God bless. :)

  • Reminds me of my Noni and No No

  • I love trying to sing along with this song

  • hes laughs a little right after he wiseles

  • i was born in tiriolo catanzaro italia do not forget art music and fashion and many other stuff started in italy

  • @leeplus3 this is not italian language it's probably a mistification of naples dialect, and it is not italian

  • "Eh, Cumpari!" is a novelty song. It was adapted from a traditional Italian song by Julius La Rosa and Archie Bleyer in 1953, and sung by La Rosa with Bleyer's orchestra as backing on a recording that year. Shows just how much sguaraus1984 knows, the song actually originated in ITALY.

  • my grandma (Nana) used to sing this song all the time

  • @1294pedro Actually 99% of them can't tell the difference between Sicilian, Neapolitan, Calabrese, Italian and broken English with an Italian accent. But all five plus the hybrids between them are "speaking Italian". Long story short, to the average American: Italy=Southern Italy.

Italy is narrow and long. From the northern German speaking regions to foggy Turin and Milan, from green Tuscany to Rome and down to the South. Italians from top to bottom really dont feel culturally bound.

  • Pourquoi " Hey Goombadi " ??? " Hey Compari " c'est ça le titre !! M'enfin !

  • @10000k2r

"...for all you nice ladies and gentlemen out there who don't understand the Italian language,

    I used the British title."

  • @joselobo51 that's funny man ! nice post for sure , they just don't make these old Italian American hits anymore ,

  • your translation is in sicilian dialect; the italian correct traslationtion is: hei compare ci vuoi suonare? Che si suona? il flauto! e come si suona il flauto?... etc

  • @joselobo51 wrong song thats lazy mary

  • @joselobo51 Lol nice. lol he says British.

  • @joselobo51 That's Lazy Mary.....Wrong song (:

  • @joselobo51 haha well played.

  • @10000k2r C'est Hei Gombadi , Hei Gomba Va studia il l'italianno :P

  • i learned this in italin class .i am itallion

  • Every Christmas we sing this and Dominic the Donkey for the kids

  • I wish I was Italian sometimes :/. Instead I'm Irish.

  • Haven't heard this for years! when we were kids in the 50's my aunts uncles and my cousins would come from Staten Island to My grandparents house in central Jersey for Sunday dinner in the cellar of course, and my uncle Andy would play his guitar and they would sing along in Italian for hours and we would always love hearing this song!

  • love itt

  • Bring on the pasta, wine, cannoli & dancing

  • @ItalianWiseguy55 Can't forget the pretty girls, who else am I going to dance with?

  • PORCOIDDIO!!!!!!!

  • Well it's the kid who brought the pride to the Irishman

  • It's funny how Americans consider Italy being a big Naples and the national language of Italy being Neapolitan. They sometimes consider Sicily. They probably think of Milan as the capital of Fashionland and of Florence as the capital of Oldstuffland. And I look like Supermario. Just kidding :P

  • @DanyNicola It's very true. Now everyone speaks neapolitan dialect in italy. You actually have to travel to the inner inner parts of someplace else to hear a different dialect. For example in the region of sicily, you'd have to go into palermo just to hear someone speak a sicilian dialect. NAPOLI TOOK OVER!!!

  • @MrNapoli360 Are you serious? Have you ever been to Italy? ignorante ma tu nun saje nient' mo basta parla'......

  • @DanyNicola i focus on Sicily the most

  • nice song!!!!!!!

  • Che bella canzone! E io sono messicano eah eah!

  • muito bom eu rii

  • The singer on this is Julius LaRosa

  • Thanks _ I'm part of the generation that lost my Italian once I started school because we thought to BE American meant we shouldn't ALSO speak Italian. Even when I learned Italian (Tuscani) in college, I found I couldn't speak to the folks because even though they knew 3 dialects, they didn't speak the "standard Italian". Thanks for bringing back some memories and also giving me a chance to pass some of this on to my nephews, etc.

  • Hey ieguy.....I have a similar story. I am Calabrese and my parent were born there and I was around the Calabbrese language all my life. However, I didnt understand that well or speak. I went to school in Genoa for the language and learned pretty good. When I went down to where my parent were born to visit family...I didnt understand shit...it was funny. Ho detto sempre...Non capisco dialeto di calabrese...parli con me in Italiano...che divertente! Didnt check spelling..hopefully correct lol.

  • @MultiPizzapizza My grandpa was brought up using the Sicilian dialect, but when he and my grandma went to Naples, they figured that they'd be fine but my grandpa had no idea what people were saying!

But then my dad in Brooklyn grew up around his side of the family speaking Calabrese! Hai bisogno di amare la lingua! E un bello lingua ma i dialeti e molto strano!

  • Ho dimenticato tanto in Italiano ma mi piace parlare. Allora...Ciao - buona fortuna!

  • i remember this song on godfather 3 and how joe zasasa messed it up. so any way thanks so much

  • This was my Grandpa's song. Whenever we'd hear it we'd say "the Grandpa song is on!" I miss driving with him and listening to the old standards on the radio and hearing him sing along. We used this song for part of his funeral video back in February and at the wake, while we were praying, the video started to play on the computer (this was the first song) and we all tried not to laugh. Thank you for uploading!

  • Always love hearing this and agree with the others before me regarding memories and thanks for showing the lyrics.
