Christopher Hitchens is one of the few public figures in all of human history who publicly acknowledged what my grandfather did decades ago: "There are no dirty pigs, just dirty farmers." We despise the pig for the sins of the human.
If you are sick of religious privilege/nonsense in the UK, consider joining the National Secular Society, who do great work in reducing the impact of religion on public life.
My hs bio teacher once told us of a true story in which her husband lost some flesh from his arm in a car accident. To prevent a staph infection, the doctors covered his partly skinless arm with the skin of a pig. The pig skin however, rather quickly, fused with his human skin, and he was literally growing and regrowing pig skin cells, just as human skin cells are regularly grown and regrown. He of course had it removed, but this story certainly says a lot about man's similarities with the pig.
I'm glad about the mention of Animal Farm (one of my favorite books of all time), but that live-action movie adaptation (where the picture is from) was awful. Don't watch it; stick with the animated version, as it's at least believable.
addit to prev statement -Hope of gods existence, to say you have faith is to say well i dont know for certain but i will take it on faith anyhow ie: i beleive in god beleive not know for a fact if you claim you know for fact then you have solid evidence that stands up in testing

to encourage this, religion is not perfect and neither is the mind of men, im sure if a crazed fanatic tied you to a stake and set you on fire for beleiveing what you beleive and because he or she felt god had told her or him to do it you may change your opinion
faith is not how you define, faith is to beleive something without proof of that something actually exists, faith in religion means hope of god
most people dont give their all in faithfully believing in our maker.they believe a little but are continually transgressing against Him. Doing this yes/no/yes/no/believe sometimes/sin/believe/sin/hear myself/hear God/hear myself mantality leads to POOR Faith=no growth. one Must have the faith of the mustard seed that grows to an abundant tree providing much of Gods fruit this FAITH can be attained by loyalty of hearing Gods voice&DOING IT.
agitcam. had you read this book you might have known that he does into some detail about that exact argument. it might even be in this clip that i am about to watch.
Do you suppose the original reason for not eating pork is because of the danger of Trichinosis? I think so. I think Chris is off the mark on this one.

And neither does anything else - Blind Faith is the only kind of faith one can have regarding a god, and it is steeped in fear and ignorance.

maybe, but they too are carriers for taenia solium which can become quite unpleasent for humans if they do not use proper hygiene
