  • I spoke to six other pediatricians at my hospital, All agree -negative quick strep tests are a problem. Even our pediatric infectious consultant said strep cultures are the gold standard.

Susan Schulman MD treated over 200 children for PANDAS. She did a video about the problem with QST vs Cultures. Your video library is excellent. I disagree with you about QST. I am NOT questioning a positive test only the negatives.

  • @drmdk Once again, I say, Show me the evidence. The data supplied to the FDA suggests that the negative predictive value is over 99%. The fact that Dr. Schulman has treated 200 kids with PANDAS (the existence of which I doubt) does not give her any more evidence. I don't pretend to have conducted the research studies but I have read them.

  • Excellent video.

Few key points - Strep infections do not cause rheumatic fever under children 2.5 years of age.Why do some pediatricians do throat cultures with with infants and very young children. ?

I disagree with Quick strep being that good. DrMDK

  • @drmdk As far as the rapid strep sensitivy- that is the data that was presented to the FDA and presented in peer reviewed literature. If you have data to the contrary, I recommend presenting it to the FDA for review.
