they stand for American Forces Network. When you live on a base overseas you can't get regular comcercials, you get these. they're mostly military related (housing, marrying nationals, retirment plans, educational things...)

these commercials are made to get things in the heads of the most stupid people in the military. In short, they are trying to reach the lowest common denominator: The Army!

If soldiers, civilians and their families wouldnt do dumb shit, then there would be no need for these commercials. So hey services members of all branches, and civilians supporting them.
