I dont understand a word but I love it nevertheless. Russia has a proud history, okay the oppression of Stalin was a massive stain upon history but it needs to be looked at in context. Hail the proletariat who vanquished the Tsar; just for that I admire russians and now more than ever we need a power, a free society, that can limit US aggression around the world. Im rather impressed with Putin as well and all this coming from a Brit.
Yep.They won WW2, European Theater in the 6 day long Battle of the Kursk Salient. Both the Red Army and the Wehrmacht lost more personnel at Kursk that USA lost all war, all services, both theaters!
@NavigatorRu They are now but they weren't winners when "Uncle Joe" was running things when they were young men. Thank God Russia survived him. The genuine obvious pride seen in these young Russian soldiers could never have been seen when he was running things.
@ShadowDeathBl1tz Well, I believe that before the beginning of the Anthem there was a command "attention!". So, according to the service regulations some commanders in the formation are to salute. Meanwhile those spectators are not obliged to do that. But they may conduct by their own will.
@TrueMRLotta Well, we have military parade every year. But it always better to attend the event in the day of the anniversary of the Great Victory (May, 9th) when performance is suppose to be better. Next anniversary we'll celebrate in 2015. Welcome to Russia!
@TheRaginTiger You can learn lyrics of the Russian Anthem from the cover video of my channel. Read the description for that video and you'll get the words in English. Although some users express disagreement with my version of translation, I can assure You that the lyrics are at least 95% correct.
@NavigatorRu Many viewers may disagree with an English translation because Paul Robeson released an "English translation" in 1943 that, while it had the same meaning in every lyric, the actual words were very different.
@AidanLunn Robeson released English text for the old Soviet Anthem. But even the Soviets replaced the text of the Anthem after Joseph Stalin's death. Now we have the same tunes as those two Soviet Anthems had, but completely different lyrics. So, I provide those who would like to know the meaning of the lyrics with the English translation. And it has nothing in common with the Robeson's text. What I have is just direct translation of the Russian words into English.
Well, He is one of the Russian WWII veterans. And he is a Hero of the Soviet Union (small star-medal on the top right). But as for his name and his record ... I can't say. There is a number of war veterans who's names are not widely known in Russia, while there are some who are very well known for their feats of arms.
@lioshenka can't say it for sure. Given the age of the veteran I doubt he could earn HOR star. It might be shadow that makes ribbon looks like multicoloured. But again, I'm not sure.
I quoted the first line of the old Soviet lyrics, these guys are singing the new Russian Federation version. Same music different words. This is the first verse of Soviet version: Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics, Great Russia has welded forever to stand. Created in struggle by will of the people, United and mighty, our Soviet land! This is new Russian Fed version: Russia — our sacred power, Russia — our beloved country. Mighty will, great glory — Your heritage for all of time!
Well, it is just "Hurrah!". According to the Russian military tradition thrice-repeated "Hurrah!" is a sort of a response to the congratulations made by the commanding officer.
Believe me, my knowledge is not only based on the media. I've a few Russian friends which is going on in Russia. But I'll look for more sources - promised! :) But media doen't lie. The wrong system - that's my opinion but maybe it's convenient for Russian people!
Can't fully agree with you. Anthem is great, country is beautiful, but as for the system... I'm not sure whether you are familiar well with our political system. If your knowledge is based on the media publications ... well I'd say you should try to find some alternative sources to get the true picture of what is going on in Russia -)
@jedimasterlaybourn Well moreso Russia, which literally reached Berlin like a Bush Fire through Europe. 1.2 million artillery shells attacking Berlin in only 2 weeks. But yes, America Played some part after 1942.
If I am not mistaken, he is a coronel, wearing the old style WW2 Soviet uniform, extremely simple but meaningful for all those who wore it during the war.
