  • Thank you. Seldom version of the solopart. Jimi is/was the master of guitar. And a good boy he was too. Just see the documentary films where he writes postcards to his father during his growing carreer.

  • wouldn't it be sweet if our traffic lights went blue on jimi's birthday?

  • @greatbigbubby i wanted tothumb up your comment, but my friggin laptop wouldnt let me :(!

  • Jimmi used to play around with his music a lot, trying to refine and amend all the time,,,he carried his guitar around with him every where. even when he went to the toilet, he used to take it with him, just so he could make the riffs he was working on, flow.....Yeah this is Jimmi,,,makes yer skin goose man, peace

  • @gotmihandstuck I agree. Sounds like you knew him?

  • @gotmihandstuck yes, like a painter works on his painting.i know the process.

  • from where did you obtain this video?

  • It's Jimi...I have the bootleg of this with the date. I play in a Hendrix tribute and my bass player was at this show!!

  • He was such an amazing musician. The fact that he's dead makes me very angry.

  • my 5 favorite songs of all time are various live versions of this song. the short 'breakdown' like parts ofter the last chorus attack feelings in utterly different ways. my personal favorite may be the monterey. subtle and short but almost painfully overwhelming.

  • I wonder how this was recorded. Maybe the who posted could elaborate. Sounds great!

  • wow, 1 person dislikes. thanks for ruining jimis perfect record asshole. : (

actually, i cant complain. this song is too awesome.

  • Is this really JIMI?

I think this is not him.

cus the way of singing is a bit different.

  • @SuperETPlayerZ this is definitely Jimi, his voice and playing are unmistakable, whats different about this song is that jimi seems to have a brighter mood and it comes out in his singing in this version of the tune

  • @SuperETPlayerZ Who else can play and sing like that? It must be Jimi! 1968, Chicago

  • Everytime I leave the Ogilvie Station and walk across the bridge towards the Civic Opera House, I think of Jimi, Mitch & Noel.

  • of course its JIMI, you can hear this clearly dudes !!

  • really cool !!!

  • I saw Jimi play in Chicago, August of 1968 at what is now part of the Roosevelt U.

He left us 40 years ago today!

SEE YA IN THE NEXT WORLD, AND DON'T BE LATE! DON'T BE LATE!

  • I saw him play August 68 in Chicago, at what is now the Roosevelt Theatre.

40 years today, he left us....

"SEE YA IN THE NEXT WORLD, DON'T BE LATE! DON'T BE LATE....

  • I saw him play August 68 in Chicago, at what is now the Roosevelt Theatre

  • I saw him in 1970 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. It was mind blowing

  • HIs rhythm playing on this song is incredible...understated in a perfect way, not to mention that tone

  • Thank you for posting this. RIP Jimi. Forever in my soul.

  • for the slow minded ppl that dont understand how Jimi Hendrix was and is important:

LISTEN TO THE MUSIC PRE-HENDRIX. U'll get the idea.

  • I was there. Unfortunately my friend I went with was too busy dragging me around with here to try to find some pot. Missed seeing a lot of the concert

  • paste &fmt=18 at the end of the link and get better audio :)

  • Forget playing, I just wish I could write with the imagination of Jimi.

  • Jimi sounds like he was really relaxed and happy to be in Chicago that day.

  • Damn he has played everywhere

  • SPECTACULAR 'Improv' Solo Here! Thanx gacelaxd! *****(((((10)))))***** Jimi was the finest of all time, and will never be overshadowed, nor undermined.

This solo he made-up (or rather 'felt') on the spot - THAT'S what made Jimi a one-of-a-kind icon anomaly, never to be seen again. He didn't just play spectacular, he FELT what he played, spectacular, right out of his heart & soul, he was a "messenger." This is what Paul McCartney described back in the day as Jimis actual talent surfacing!

  • you know there are other people who play what they feel. all it takes is a passion for music and a profound inner consciousness(and a bit of practice). slash from guns n roses for example, is fairly unmatched in deepness, i think. (among the people who are still alive of course)look at him.

  • Yeah, I like Slash, a lot. How can you NOT like GNR & Slash? Thing is tho...Jimi did it decades EARLIER, in his OWN way, unmatched nor duplicated to this day... He re-invented popular music, jazz, blues, event country to a degree. Only an iconic GIANT can do that. He was the Original. If you follow neat things, from muscle cars to scientists to guitar players, whatever it may be, you'll find that in most cases the Original is the finest and everything afterwards is just a watered-down version...

  • that's true, and thats because the secret to beauty or greatness or whatever lies in figuring out or discovering or doing something UNIQUE, and not following predeccessors. a new jimi hendrix would have to basically come up with their own genre of music, and their own unique way of looking at it, as well as the rest of the world. and they'd also have to be pretty damn intelligent. three things that aren't exactly easy to come by these days, so its no wonder people like hendrix are spead so thin

  • @BeenBad4U -just like Jesus Christ and the gospel! Many cults and watered down versions have come and gone since the real thing..but the original is the only one who can save yer soul.

  • One of his best solos on this song.

  • wow that solo was amazing! oh how I wish he were still with us.

  • @NitsuaNaed i wish this solo was the studio version its amazing

  • @StreetAaron Yeah thats always the problem. How to play inspired when recording.

  • I was a 16 yr old when I saw not just 1, but all 3 of his Chicago performances...unforgettable! If anyone has ANY footage of those concerts, it would be fantastic to post it here...

  • Actually he performed Chicago 5 times. My bass player in my band saw all 5 show:

    Civic Opera House

    Auditorium ( I believe twice)

    University Hall (left stage early)

    The Coliseum

    All in 1968.

  • Good memory Bro!

    1) 2/25/68: Civic Opera House, Chicago, 3pm

    2) 3/29/68: Illinois University Hall, Chicago, (canceled after 2 electrical faults) Later Jimi jams w/the Paul Butterfield Blues Band at the Cheetah Club.

    3) 8/10/68: Chicago Auditorium (2 shows)

    4) 12/1/68: Chicago, Illinois. Coliseum

  • Oh man!! The studio solo is amazing--but this one just shows what master Jimi truely was!! Just wish he was still around!

    Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Great version. And one of the last times he ever played the tune live.

  • Sunday, 2/25/68 Chicago Civic Opera House: 1. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Fire 3. The Wind Cries Mary 4. Foxy Lady 5. I Don't Live Today 6. Hey Joe 7. Please Crawl Out Your Window 8. Manic Depression 9. Like A Rolling Stone 10 Purple Haze Support: Soft Machine
  • MANIC DEPRESSION?!

    PLEASE CRAWL OUT YOUR WINDOW?!

    Is this on youtube?

  • veeeery beautiful! i didn't know this concert, thank you so much!

  • Anyone who thinks this isn't jimi, doesn't Know Jimi. Blantantly, it's so blantantly him. What a genius he was.....

  • I was there, at this concert!!!

I rember it well, how we all just sat there, mesmerized!!!

  • Hi

could you elaborate a little please? Most of us never got to see him live onstage. What was it like details details!

    thanks in advance

  • Beautiful solo, thanks alot for posting :)

  • guys i was joking when i said this isnt jimi, cause what i was sayn is its obviously jimi, who cant tell that?

  • I concur with earthblues comments-if you know Jimi, you know what a fantastic improvisationalist he was, and you can also recognize the core of the song; he was the best at balancing that-pure genius!---thANKS FOR THE POST, BROTHER ,PEACE !

  • I think it's quite funny when people say, "THIS ISN'T JIMI!" obviously it is. Just because this audio quality isn't A+ like studio stuff, doesn't mean it's not him. Just because it's a studio outtake it doesn't mean it's not him.

    Thanks for this.

  • Based on my limited knowledge and experience, and the feeling of the solo, this is Jimi. February 25,1968. Civic Opera House,Chicago,Illinois,U.S.A. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • You're right Taipobryan! Only Jimi can play the solo like that :) The date and location is correct too.

  • DUDE!! I have this on bootleg!!

  • Cool

  • I was at that concert. Amazing! The Soft Machine opened, and they were unforgettable! Thank You for posting!

  • I was there too, but I remember it as being at the Auditorium Theater. Am I wrong about the venue? I was 15 and pretty dazed at the time, so I could be mistaken.

  • einstein!

  • U r right it's JH.

  • Is that JH???R U sure?

  • Yes, I'm sure. He just sings it a little different, that's all.

  • @gacelaxd seems like it is slighty pitched up. maybe playback a little faster. don't you agree?

  • happy b day jimi

  • yes it is!

  • btw, this solo is just out of this world :)

  • @gacelaxd

    you're so right !!!
