  • How easy Blakey makes playing arrangements look, what a great drummer and leader ,most of the east coast jazz icons came through this mans bands,I saw him play twice what a jazz thrill -these days this great USA Jazz dont happen any more -

    mr jazzdrums-

  • cant stop listening to this>brother>>

  • perfect!

que harmonia a cama pra impro!

  • thats some slick hair on morgan (trumpet player)

  • i seem to be the only guy who actually came here for art blakey haha, i dont even know who these other guys are, although i'd love to study up on that pianist

  • @canthinkverywell Check out some Lee Morgan, i think a couple records have Blakey on drums. Unfortunately Morgan didn't live long enough to become the icon that Blakey rightly has. His girlfriend croaked him right on the street in my neighborhood. A shame.

  • lee morgan has mores than you will ever hear a trumpet player execute anywhere

  • Love ya lee...just love ya...you died too young

  • Lee Morgan,grandioso.

  • I would've loved to work with Art Blakey. AS a pianist I feed off the groove the drummers give toward me to play with rhythmic pulses...

  • Especially LOVE John Hicks solo....one of the most underrated piano legends...

  • john gilmour?! wow...i saw one of sun ra's last tours...i wonder if he was still in the band?

  • John Gilmore on Tenor sax....another Bad dude

  • si puo' dare di piu'? no chiedo ...se qualcuno lo sa che me lo dica ...

  • It's all GREAT! I Love Lee and John and Art especially!

  • Lee Morgan is a Great Technician and has an enormous paraphrasing, my favourite one and the metronome Blakey is giving just too perfect!

  • nice style :^* o=OíííO<)

  • The person using the psuedonym BuckshotLaFunke should note that Cannonball used it years ago. Find something original please.

  • As for the person who made the ridiculous statement of Lee Morgan paying lip service to Freddie Hubbard, check out "Night of the Cookers".

  • Another outstanding configuration by Art Blakey. Many are not aware of John Gilmore as the great all around tenor saxophonist he was.

  • "The only cat I fear is Lee Morgan, he plays with so much fire." - Freddie Hubbard

  • Where did you hear this at?

  • @GodzRicko

Awesome, bro', thanks for sharing that!

  • go Lee Conn 8B trumpet wow!!

  • @dontaewinslow Go ahead knowledge! Hub sure sounded great on his 8B too!

  • That looks like John Gilmour from the Sun Ra Arkestra on tenor sax. would someone please correct me if i'm wrong?

  • oh man lee morgan is incredible,

  • @wildblackboy was

  • Well his music is still incredible...so for me...he still is even in the grave.

  • @wildblackboy i understand what your saying

  • 15,000 veiw

  • Ugetsu (1963)

  • "On the Ginza" refers to a strip in Tokyo Japan.

  • been there! luvd it, guy was playing sax on the strip at night

  • The music is so much better when you get to actually see the way they perform it.

  • i like so much how Gilmore plays here. But i can't find any other video, where he is playing like this. Is there more somewhere to find/hear???

  • i never knew john gilmore had played with lee morgan. absolutely amazing!

  • John Gilmore was a major influence on Coltrane's style and you can easily hear in this video!!!!

  • yeahhhhhhhhhh messengers with sun ra tenor Gilmore, a great sax

  • on the Ginza....ugetu...ping pong

  • word son word

  • Music on its prime! Strong!!

  • someone should post the whole video. i used to own it but i lost my copy... there are some really great tunes on this video...

  • piano solo bit rough tho.still top tune.

  • Good lord. John Gilmore is so good.

  • i love this tune so much, but i can't find a chart for it in any of my books. anyone out there got the music?

  • use your ears man, s'good practice. I mean that in the best way possible, you'll know the song better, promise!

  • The title is actually On the Ginza..

Maybe that will help... I would like to play this tune too, it's a great one..

  • lee morgan RUUUUUUUUUUUUUULes OMG HE IS AMAAAAZING @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE3EEEEEEEE MOOOOOOOOOOOOORRGGAAAAAAAAN ISSSSSSSSSSSS EEEEEXXXXCCEEEEEELLLLEEEEEENT OMG LEE MORGAN ALL THE WAY LEE MORGAN! LEE MORGAN! LEE MORGAN! LEE MORGAN! LEE MORGAN!

  • ♫♫♫♫♫

  • I love John Gilmore - totally unappreciated musician... his work with sun ra, in my opinion, places him right up there with trane (whom he influenced a great deal)Rollins and co. he could play 'outside' or 'inside'...

  • This is completely true... he did in fact influence Coltrane, a lot!! Especially towards the end when they played together! John Gilmore = Amazing sax player

  • Ah, THAT'S who he is... I knew I knew his name from somewhere.

  • @mcdevster i appreciate him... a lot/

  • YES! Thank you - I had this video and have lost it... Morgan's playing is brilliant and Gilmore's tone is killer!

  • Thank You!!!

I saw this on the Ken Burns Jazz and have been searching since!
