  • Yes, high blood sugar does affect eyesight. Blood vessels on the back of the eye can be damaged and lead to loss of vision. This is due to blood not being able to flow freely (due to glucose in blood vessels). Blocked vessels are also a danger to the heart and damage to the heart is another complication of diabetes.
