that "thrashing" technique he calls it is called tremilo picking/plucking and i found it much easier to turn the triplets into a constant triplet instead of doing that nail technique, which can be very sloppy, and it requires less movement in your right hand. you will eventually be able to pluck as fast as any guitarist can pick with little effort

@OutsideTha9 No way. He tunes down the same amount. I'm not sure if this is what you're confused on, but just so you know, the bass is still an octave below the guitar. The bass doesn't play the same notes as the guitar, as it would defeat the point.

Not to mention his tone is legendary, and he gets his overly aggressive tone by using a pick. You can get it with just your fingers (like Geddy Lee); but for some people it's impossible to have stamina and consistency when you're being THAT aggressive. Not to mention it's hell on your right hand.
