No, disbelieving implies that there is something to believe, and then you choose not to believe it. Like, disbelieving the Earth is round. Lack of belief implies that you are at the natural state, without any special beliefs added.
Why would I leave an opttion that christinity is right? Thats like a mathematician saying "but maybe we are all wrong and 1+1=pi!". We simply cannot give him equal consideration than the regular mathematicians, unless the 1+1=pi guy has some really great evidence
that is exactly my point. nothing is for certain, everything could be illusion. Perhaps 1+1=3. Perhaps mathematicans are wrong. Perhaps there is a God. Perhaps there is nothing. Nothing is for certain, even what I am writing now. Maybe I am not writing it at all.
Descartes said that there could be a demon of infinite power that is tricking all his senses. But the demon could never convince him that he doesnt exist! Thats where "I think, therefore I am" comes from. So no, not everything could be an illusion. And once you accept that the world is also real, you quickly notice that no, some things are real, and others cannot be. Atheism is certain, but scientists never say that anything is certain, because they don't want to wall themselves off
Well Decartes was not bold enough to take himself into the waters of radical scepticism. As far as I'm concerned not even Aristotel's laws of logic are not for certain. In my oppinion there are round squares etc.
I know that I exist, because if I didnt exist, I couldnt know or think or feel anything. Whether you call this existence life, death, heaven or hell is irrelevant. It is there, and it is what we have. I also know that all information I receive and understand is interpreted by myself, which means it is subjective and incomplete, but it is better than nothing. This means I am a subject, not an object. I live because I am not dead. Whether everything 'exists' or 'is real' is irrelevant
part 2: although, you can go on a case-by-case basis to see how likely something is to exist objectively, without your subjective interpretations. For example, what components of, lets say, love are real, and which are subjectively added because of your interpretation. However, we are naturally equipped (thanks to evolution) to be capable of grasping most of the important objective things around us (we still see them subjectively, though)
@flippyroxx I personally don't believe in religion. However, art is art, if you enjoy it, and it means something to you, then it is good. As long as you don't interpret it and then decide to do bad things because of it. But only messed up people do that. However, keep in mind that Norwegian black metal is very much anti-christian (ie pro-satan). Best you become an atheist, and you are safe from both :)
Atheism is the LACK of religion in people, thank you. As for Flippy: if you like Christianity, then be with it, even though you like different music. I am Atheist, but I like Black Metal. I like the Satanic (Evil) theme, because well, being alive, as man, I try to be civil. But the Dark Side in me goes evil when it can: Role Play, Music, movies, music... It's a theme that speaks to me, cuz evil is in everyone. Even in the hardest Christian or Islamic...
More like ESPECIALLY in the hardest Christian or Islamic religions
I am an atheist, I dont believe in good and evil (only subjectively right and wrong), but I like this music because it energizes me and gives me strength
Atheism is belief that there is nothing and nobody. Christianity is belief in God. Christianity and Atheism are the same logical term just standing in opposite to eachother.
LOL Atheism is NOT the "belief that there is nothing and nobody". It is simply a lack of a belief in a god or gods. A-theism. Seriously, you got that horribly wrong, please do more research before posting such big statements. Nihilism and some branches of buddhism are the closest to what you said.
youre really just the same as a fairly religeious person myself i still listen to all kinda of satanic music, after all music is art and this is just a darker form of art. music is music and it is jsut what your ears find pleasing. If god is as just as they claim he wountdnt comdemn you for ti.

When I fell of my roof last week, that felt pretty reel to me! Mostly the moment when I hit the pavement... I am pretty sure, that I am no shadow...

Alex, question: where did you get the idea you're an illusion? What brought this to your mind?
Illusions can be very real, more so if you believe in them.
But BEING an illusion? Where did that come from?

he meant "The Matrix".... o_O

the matrix is only one of the options. and the options have no limits.

disbelieving = lack of belief. one disbeliefs becouse of the lack of belief.

but not leaving an alternative option that christianity is right, no matter how silly it sounds, still implies that you are taking a stand.

..but then we call them circles :p
doutonight 2 years ago
we can call them triangles, and they may be triangles becouse we most likely cannot be sure if our senses are not deciving us.

Nothing but ONE thing is for certain. We all come to die, the universe as we know it WILL some day come to an end.
Everything finally comes to an end, that is a certainty...

tell me, how can you know that we are not already dead? How can you know that anything even exists?

We have already spoken about Descartes right? You think, therefore you are. Perhaps you are nothing but a shadow or reflection of something else.
