Very nicely done!! *applause* So sad how people use religion to hide behind as they hurl hate! I have heard every reasoning the church says against gay marriage and it always makes me shake my head in wonder...
Those reasons are so outrageous! Its all religious reasons. You cant give one good reason y gay marriage should be illegal besides religion. being homosexual IS NOT A CHOICE so how the hell can gay couples raise their kids to be gay??? If gay people get married, how can this hurt u in any way??? How will affect u in any way???
Please read through all of the comments and the "more info" section to see that this isn't a video dissing gay marriage... it is quite the opposite. I don't believe you were raised LDS, or you would have recognized how ridiculous the comments were that I made about Mormon beliefs. The point I was making is that Mormon reasoning for opposing gay marriage is flawed, and by forcing everyone to live by their standards goes against their own doctrine.
LOL - Amen. Isn't it amazing? I've got a book coming out soon called The Spell of Religion and the battle of gay marriage. I hope you will spread the word and support the book. Such GREAT points in your video.
By actively campaigning/contributing to prevent gay marriage, the mormon church is attacking the beliefs/rights of those who believe differently. That is hateful. My pointing this out isn't hateful, its eye opening.
Yes, most countries are underdeveloped, and don't have even the most basic human rights or freedoms. If you look at the 30 countries with the highest HDI scores (Human Development Index), over 56% of the countries recognize some form of same sex marriage or union.
It's well over 1%, and most countries don't even bother themselves with such a non-issue, much like gays in the military. Only countries like the USA and Islamic retards bother themselves with trivialities, because they're FUCKED UP WITH RELIGION!
"Protecting respect" for others' beliefs is a sham and a ruse.
The only respectable yardstick by which one person should hold another accountable (adults only) is their beliefs. Skin color, sexuality, ethnic background are the pillars of bigotry. But beliefs are what we do to ourselves, and so it's open season on superstitious nonsense, as far as I'm concerned!
Four down, forty six to go. Congratulations to Vermont and Iowa! Utah may be the last holdout, but gay marriage will eventually be the law of the land.
amazing, I read through all of your replies as well. You seem to be very well researched on this and have a really intelligent and respectful stance on this. Kudos
If my Heavenly Father's Plan asks me to look for the purpose of life (happiness)... and after 12 years of "everlasting matrimony" in the Holy Temple, my ex-wife met another guy and after a month they started living together... I'm straight, but when it comes to loving... who cares! I think that I got married once, and still feel the same! despite of feeling betrayed! I only want to find happiness for the God's Sons, no matter however, wherever, whenever... and WHOEVER.
good movie. Mormons are now taking up these lines of "we don't hate gays, we have never hated gays" that is like Nazis in 1946 saying "we don't hate jews, we have never hated jews". I wonder if they would get the picture of hate, if, like the gay BYU students in the 1980's, they had anodes attached to their genitals, and had shock waves sent through them. We need to be vigilant against their attempts to erase their history of discrimination.
This video was done 'tongue in cheek'. That means the supporting points I give for each reason are being done sarcastically and are not meant literally.
At 14, I'm not sure how much church history you've been exposed to. Brigham Young was adamant that it was an abomination for blacks and whites to marry. He's the one who implemented the ban on black males receiving the priesthood (Joseph Smith actually gave the priesthood to one early black member before being killed).
The fact that the church denied the priesthood to Blacks until the 1970's shows that the church can't be forced to do anything with it's practises even when the rest of the country believes something different. Therefore, if gay marriage is allowed, the church won't be forced to perform them in the temple.
As far as the comment on the church not allowing the elderly to marry or nullifying the marriages of infertile couples:
If the fact that gay couples can't procreate was a legitimate arguement for keeping marriage from them, then there would be rules in place preventing other childless marriages from existing.
If you google mormon divorces, you will find that a recent study shows that 25% of mormon marriages do end in divorce. Actually, this isn't a bad percentage since half of non-mormon marriages end in divorce on average.
I'm not sure how far you got through the video, but at the end is the main point I was trying to make: Making a law that forces people to live how you believe instead of what they believe is taking away their free agency. If you remember, in the pre-existance that was how Satan wanted us to live.
i guess they can't bear to think that other people might be happy and that notion is too much for them to bear. i heard recently that biggest porn market is in utah. if this is true, it isn't all that surprising.
OK OK OK... This seems like a passive-agressive attempt as some sort of revenge here. The church did NOT legislate anything. If the church were to have its tax-exempt status taken because of this issue, then so sould the gay rights organizations that are tax exempt by status of non-profit. Let's talk logic. Nothing wrong was done by the church encouraging its members. All law is based on moral values.
73% of all blacks that voted, voted against gay marriage. You are taking the easy way and the politically correct way out. Whay are non of your supporters protesting black churhces? Politically incorrect? Or is it easier swaying people against a majority religious white people. You sir are BIGGOT!
I am in Michigan, and I have no supporters. I encourage people to think for themselves using their head and their heart. The mormon church used it's to influence unrighteously to legislate discrimination into a constitution. The point of a democracy is not majority rules. The point of a democracy is that justice is available to all. Even minority groups are entitled to their rights in spite of how the majority feels towards them.
okay, fine, but what do you consider justice? and why does a Supreme Court decide what is justice? the Supreme Court was once pro-slavery too, and the legislature voted for the civil rights act. now the legislature is voting against gay marriage, and the Supreme Court is willing to overturn the ban. So, who decides what is justice?
Mormonism, like most major faiths, doesn't respect American values of tolerance. They were driven out of New York, Missouri, and Illinois where Joseph Smith was killed in 1844by people who were intolerant of them -- you'd think they would learn to keep their beliefs and respect those of others.
traditional marriage has not been the same since adam and eve. don't you know how people are married in other countries, some that are predetermined by their parents, not to mention the gay marriages that are still practiced in this country today. So reason #1 is flawed by any standard. Next
I agree with you. The point of this video is that the reasons given by mormon members and leaders are flawed intellectually and doctrinally by mormon standards/history. Hopefully you just missed reading the video information before you posted this comment.
This is completely messed up. You do not know what you are talking about. The Church was not forced to give blacks the Priesthood. also, the Church doesn't forbid marriages for elderly parents. You do not understand the reason and concept of marriage. you can live with a partner of you same gender if you want, but changing the definition of marriage will only hurt marriages, families, and the rest of society. this includes everyone: Mormons, non-Mormons, gays, and straights.
Of course the church wasn't 'forced' to give Blacks the Priesthood, nor do they forbid marriage to the elderly. This whole thing is tongue-in-cheek. You've missed the point of the video if you think I am being literal. The arguements the church makes against same sex marriage are as ridiculous as the assertions I make about church practices/paradigms.
The Church doesn't make ridiculous arguments. It is only trying to defend marriage as a union between a man and a woman that creates a family. It's not anti-gay. It's just that marriage is not only about love and living your life together. I hope that you are not being literal about these things, since your arguments are completely ridiculous, but the Church does make sense if you give it the time to think it through.
The Church is a religion. It's views may or may not be shared with other religions. Whether many agree with it or not, it does not have the right to force its views or interpretations on those who do not. Its call to arms on this issue goes directly against its own 11th Article of Faith. It should focus on converting more people if it wants its beliefs to spread, not enter the political arena.
Sorry but when exactly did the president of the Church or any of the 12 apostles say to vote for Prop eight or anything else. I'm afraid what you're saying is that if I believe in something I have no right to tell others I believe it. Therefore Mormons do not have the right to vote or the right to protest...hmm. Maybe our forefathers didn't have the right to write the declaration of independence!
In a letter read June 29, 2008 from the First Presidency to all church members in California: "We ask that you do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman. Our best efforts are required to preserve the sacred institution of marriage."
mormons have the right to vote their conscious, but a church located in Utah doesn't have the right to encourage its members from all over the US to pour money into California to affect the outcome there. This is an example of a church judging its values superior and imposing them on people irregardless of their beliefs -in effect forcing them to live the way the church sees fit.
Your points are astonishingly uneducated. The last radical change to marriage was the removal of laws 30-40 years ago which forbid interracial marriage. You are just hiding your hate behind weak talking points.
The church wouldn't allow black members to receive a temple marriage up to 1978 when it finally okayed giving the priesthood to worthy, male, black members. Essentially this prevented black families from having the promise of eternal families.
The point I am trying to make with this video, is that the church should stick to its own beliefs, and allow those who believe otherwise to live their own lives. The church has no business in politics.
Legalized Gay Marriage in no way intrudes on the faith of mormons. It doesn't force them to perform the marriages, it doesn't force them to believe homosexuality is right, and it doesn't force them to teach their children it's ok to be gay.
You're right. Merely allowing gay marriage would do that. And personally I see no reason to allow it. But there are too many flaws in our system that would allow what you deny to happen. Senate Bill 777 is one example of what enforces everything you say won't happen.
I am not following what you are trying to say. Merely allowing gay marriage would do what? Your comment needs some clarification or else the meaning of what you are trying to say is going to be lost.
Ha ha ha.That' so funny.
