@xxholly1095x The song before "Hold Me in Your Arms" is "Ready Willing and Abel". These two songs were back to back on the issued recording. In England the hit was "Hold Me in Your Arms" in the USA it was "Ready Willing and Abel" Great songs for Doris Day.
beautiful. Wish she would come out once and awhile so that she could know how much she is loved. Would love to see her. I could watch and listen to her all day!
1ust read all of the many comments about this song! I am so touched that this type of song can move people today. Doris Day is one of a kind with simple true emotion in her lovely voice. I am so lucky that she recorded my song with lyric by Charles Henderson. Lucky me. Don Pippin Pipmus@AOL.COM 2/20/11
Do so enjoy Gig Young. I remember him in That Touch of Mink with Doris Day and always wished that he could have gotten a girl somewhere along in the film...just like this one. :)
Doris Day th epitome of beauty and star quality. Doris is the best singer in the world as far as I am concerned...and Young at Heart is one of the best films of hers...lovely songs and wonderful cast...a classic.
Beautiful song, beautiful singer. Thanks for posting. As far as I remember, doesn't Doris ditch Gig Young and elope with Frank Sinatra in this movie? Oh the sad irony! I still like this scene and the song though.
@digitalclock yes she does but she really loves Alex. And the fact that Frank Sinatra wouldn't die at the end has ruined this otherwise treasure of a wonderful film, in my opinion. FS should never had been allowed to have that power. In the original, the Barney character dies, as he's supposed to and the Alex character and Laurie get back together. As they should!! It breaks my heart when Alex says to her, 'whoever said out of sight, out of mind was a liar'. I cry buckets every time.
I would ask everyone who is slightly visual, to attempt to shut out the visuals on this. Doris has an unbelievably naturallly pure voice and in her early stuff such as this, just close your eyes and imagine your daughter is so pure, so perfect, and your dreams have been exceeded. Then wake up and realise, this could be better.
Forgot to mention: Charles Henderson wrote the beauitful simple lyric. No frills, just wonderful words with feelings. Charles was a well known vocal arranger/coach in the films.
I had written the melody first, Charles wrote the lyrics in less than one hour. What a talent!! Lucky me. Don Pippin
I am so happy that YouTube has this clip. I wrote the song back in my Hollywood days. Loved having Doris Day record it as well. Honored that viewers are enjoying it again. Many thanks, Don Pippin
This is one of my favorite songs ever...romantic, soft, beautiful. Thank you for such wondrous music. I was born some years after this movie was made, but I pine for those days. Lovely.
Yes this is a great song, as well as this movie. My wife and I are both in our fifties, and this is one of our all time favorite movies, we didn't know about it till a couple of years ago - and thanks for writing such a beautiful song.
@Pipmus So Amazing you wrote this!!! and really her voice is so lovely it brings the right emotion this song deserves!!! sadly music tastes have change =(... I'm still all about the classics which is why I could never be a pop singer my voice sounds too much like Doris and Judy's!
Always thought Gig Young was a better leading man for Doris Day than Frank Sinatra was for this picture. (no disrespect to Frank) This could have been a nice romantic movie for Doris Day and Gig Young. Thanks for posting.
i love the way they act like young girls but they r old women lol ..lovely song
