bluemotion version has 2.0 TDI 170bhp and only (120g/km) CO2 emissions, that qaulifys for £30 road tax!!! that better than Audi or BMW!!!! Holy smoke!!!
@Jakobguldager Hardly! They have taken out a lot of the options. No rear electric windows! No centre armrest. No chrome surrounds to the windows. No floor mats (have to pay extra).
What an amazing car, its lucky VW were allowed to use slave labour during the war, otherwise they might be decades behind with their Blue Motion technology.
Bluemotion is diesel technology. We will never see it in the USA because theidiots in Washington have decided that hybids are the way to go. In ten years when all the caustic dead battery packs need to be dealt with, they will again ignore the diesel technology and back some other rediculous far-fetched method of dealing with pollution that will be totally ineffective. In the meantime, if something 30% of American private automobiles were diesel, we would not need any middle-east oil.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
but the car still burns diesel? what happens when we run out of diesel and petrol, what good is your blue motion then....the car will be obsolete like all others
shut the fuck up do you not realize every car in production right now uses some sort of fossil fuel... by the time we run out we wont have to worry about it because there will be an alternative but as of now there is nothing... even electric cars have gas tanks and only go 40 miles on their batteries which by the way you ignorant fuck guess what as much of a surprise to you the source still uses fossil fuels so shut the fuck up and keep your stupid comments that arent needed to yourself
seriously?! bluemotion isn't coming to the US because washington won't let it? god, the govt. here seems to become a little more stupid every passing day, they should use some logic in their thinking for once, and a lot less of personal gain. i wish there was a font to describe the frustration in my typing.
I've driven 4000km in two months now and I'm very satisfied with this car (I've the station wagon). Fuel consumption average at 5L/100km. cruising at motorway speed (90-120km/h it varies between 4.0-4.7L/10km. I think that's ok for a 1600KG car.
I have a 1.9TDi Passat 103PS. She is a pleasure to drive. 6 months old now. Done 26000 miles so far. She handle well, light on diesel, wonderful on the motorway. You will not be disappointed
It is because I have driven many cars in my life, that I am able to make such a statement. How can you sit there and make an assumption about a person just from one statement?
> It is because I have driven many cars in my life, that I am able to make such a statement
So these had to be something even worse than this underpowered clatterbox. Previous Passats TDI maybe?
Sorry mate, but if you ever drove anything that: has some power, over 200HP, maybe more; is not FWD but RWD or AWD with rear bias; is front light not heavy (precise steering feel); doesn't clatter like TDI unit pump..
then you would NEVER call Passat TDI "a pleasure to drive"
If you have no idea what you're talking about please don't comment, theannoyingdogpoo. First, HP says absolutely nothing about a driving characteristics car nor how fast or powerful it is, it's just a number for people to brag about. RWD is in a lot of situation not preferable over FWD and in a lot of situation not ideal. FWD or RWD says absolutely nothing over "precise steering feel". Srsly, go drive some cars to get some experience.
If you have ever driven a VW then you would know that in fact they are a pleasure to drive. One of the best driving machines out there. So keep your ignorant comments to yourself
Average fuel consumption of just 5.1 liter per 100 km, and CO2 emissions of a mere 136 g/km g/km! 105bhp are enough to drive a topspeed of 193 km/h - where can you drive this topspeed in the USA (without breaking the law)? Additionaly: Now 1 Liter (0,264 gallon) diesel fuel cost 1,34 Euro (1,98 USDollar) in germany... in future every car have to need lower consumption to get buyed. This car is the beginning.
If every new VW model introduced is supposed to be better than the previous one, especially when we talk about fuel consumption, then every new VW diesel should be BLUEMOTION by default. To charge buyers extra money for it is downright criminal.BLUEMOTION should be standard on every model.Only then can VW say that their new cars spend less than the older models and that they have made a true progress in this sense.
Well, every new Modell is better than the previous one, also in fuel consumption. The BLUEMOTION is not a standart, because these special envelopments of fuel consumption are very expensive - so the bluemotion is more expensive than the "normal" Passat 1.9 TDI (who is already better than the older modell). Especially outside germany, no one wants to pay these expensive prices for economy.
That's not true that every new model is better than the previous one.Certainly not when we talk about fuel consumption.New "normal" Passat may be more comfortable, bigger, nicer looking, etc. But it's NOT better than the older model in regard to fuel consumption.First of all,it has the same engine with added particle filter, which raises diesel consumption and costs extra money.Secondly,it's heavier.Simple physics:more weight, more power needed to move that weight, higher consumption.
The 1.9 TDI. The only difference is that it has 250Nm of torque, compared to the previous generation that had 240Nm. Although I'm not completely sure, the previous Passat might have had the same torque as well. I know that in Golf IV it had 240Nm and 101PS instead of today's 105PS.
BMW 320d has 177hp with fuel consumption 4.8l/100km. And 123d (2.0 biturbo) has 204hp with 5.2l/100km. So VW and other manufacturers still has lot to do, to be more green :)
They dont want this car in usa because they wont make as much money from gas thats the only reason dont be stuped

Love VW love Passat
Mine normal 1998 variant already goes 1litre 18,6 kilometer.
While having (chip tuned) 143 HP and 300NM it can do >200 Km/H
Its amazing u can drive 1000 kilometers without having to feul.

Only someone who has never ever driver a real car with a fair bit of power can claim a 103 HP 1500 kg diesel clatterbox can be "a pleasure to drive".
