  • Ah yes, "Two," Ryan. Look up Charles Baudelaires take on mans need for love.

  • 34 people liked it cold

  • perfect

  • I didnt know Andy Dick played pedal steel

  • Also, Heartbreaker, in my opinion, is one of his best albums, so don't even say Heartbreaker sucks. I've had my own past with opiates and the needle, and I was neither more creative or inspired while I was using, so saying that you need to be on smack to write quality music is a load of shit. And do us all a favor, learn some grammar. I went cross-eyed trying to decipher your post.

  • @damthedj You're completely wrong. "I'm fractured from the fall" What do you think the fall is? Hmm, maybe falling in love? "It takes two when it used to take one" Let's see, your life is not complete without the other person anymore, so now it's unbearable without them.

  • @catchr7bluedevil It's a literal song Ryan knew would be taken metaphorically, so it has multiple meanings if you like. he said in an interview, it was from falling and breaking his wrist in Liverpool, and needed 2 pain pills daily instead of one. But obviously it can be interpreted however you want.

  • damthedj- you are a fucking dick

  • @damnthedj this post is wrong on every single point

  • superb!!!!!!!!

  • This is John Melloncamp, dammit 00:55

  • Andy Dick on slide guitar.

  • fucking nailed it

  • Comment removed

  • for 31 people it still only takes 1...

  • Danny Cary on Guitar and Andy Dick on pedal steel... well I'll be damned.

  • Incredible

  • tHANK yOU

    Thank You Ryan.

  • No one does it better!!!!!!!!

  • My money's no good, when I'm up to no good...

  • Letterman gets less and less funny every year

but the quality of his musical guests has always been great.

  • :-D the automatic subtitle function from youtube says this is a song by bryan adams and the cargo

  • If you take me back to your place, i promise to wear you out.

  • Ryan is a god. People who like this might want to check out "Absence of Lies" by Dillon Campbell. Quite the lyricist.

  • @SilverZipperRecords Check out JACKSON BROWNE !!!!!!

  • @BluesYourAss Couldn't agree more! Jackson Browne is the unsung hero of songwriting over the past 30 years, such a talent. Great Performance of this song, perfect

  • @drummo86 XD I was surprised that nobody did mention him before me !!!!

  • Nice tune, but it's no 'Summer Of 69'.

  • @voodooseed72 Kidding, right?

  • @voodooseed72 Clever, he's never heard that before.

  • Good job David. Reading off a cue card. Couldn't have taken two minutes to pretend you respect him and learn that little snippet of info? Great job by Ryan.

  • Good singer, but I'm very surprised that the band was able to use "The Cardinals" name.

The Cardinals who were one of the greatest singing groups that recorded for Atlantic Records, started recording in the early 1950s, and still occasionally perform live. I wonder if The original Cardinals are aware of it.

  • @allaboutrecords i think the only reason they can is cause the name or the band is ryan adams and the cardinals, as opposed to the cardinals...just like sublime changed there name to sublime and rome, since bradlys relatives knew that sublime died with him....in short, wording is everything

  • What a song by Ryan Adams. Without a doubt the best song he ever did. I rarely go more than a week without listening to this song...

  • RIP Chris Feinstein

  • Ah he look so cute when he combs his hair! What a surprise!

  • Hello RA fans, please come check out my bands RA covers via my channel. We do this song, quite terribly actually so let us know how bad we did, or not. Thanks.

  • And I'm fractured.. from the fall.. and I wanna go home..

  • best singer songwriter ever

  • If you take me back

    Back to your place

I'll try not to bother you I promise

  • I'm from morrocco and i can say that Ryan is the best writer singer i've never heard !!! he has a divine voice and marvellous kind to sing !!! i like too much !!! Thanks Ryan

  • Love this guy

  • Too amazing for words, this is what real music sounds like people....

  • I love his voice.

  • this guys pretty good!

  • Marry me RYAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gosh, i think David Letterman likes Ryan Adams a lot because Ryan Adams has been on his show a lot of times.

  • 830 likes and Only 29 dislikes. Sounds like those dislikes come from people who don't know about the depth and breadth of a human condition called Love.

  • I like the way he does this on Letterman, because, he know where his bread is buttered, and plays it strait. George does the same thing, He likes to play it Strait. GEORGE STRAIT!!!!!!! HA HA HA HA! Thanks for the post, sorry if the joke was lame, but, maybe it made you laugh. As Marc Bolan used to say, don't cry!

  • Hey, I did a cover of a Ryan Adams's song, it's in my page if you wanna check it out and tell me what you think :)

  • This song reminds me of the most cherished person I have ever known

  • Ryan Adams gets himself into a lot of trouble, but I think that's what tortured souls do: act out.

  • i loveeeeeeeeeee guys singing! ha...

  • This sounds so similar to the recording, which proves he has a great voice and amazing talent needn't be covered up and edited. He keeps the song real.

  • looks like crispin glover when hes sober

  • Me too...I never get fed up with it no matter what mood I'm in. On a shit day it's on a loop in my car.

  • Love this...

  • I just love his music. He's such a talented poet, too.

His songs just really match one's feelings, don't they?

  • This is the performance that really got me into Ryan...I've been hooked ever since. I saw him at War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, and it was a life-changing experience.

  • @stlcards22dmb As did I. That's a show I'll never forget.

  • What a great song...

  • The best writers have a way of just telling the fuckin story..no platitude or hyperbole jus the words that matter..Hemingway,Townes van zandt,Ryan Adams.....

  • Don't forget Josh Ritter

  • rest in peace, spacewolf! we love you!

  • this song fucking rocks! !!!!!!

  • RIP Chris (bass player)

  • Cardinals bass player ? that is sad... RIP

  • speaks about my insides...crazy

  • so sad it makes me want to cry love

  • This song is absolutely fantastic! I don't think I could ever get sick of listening to it...a sign of a quality song.

  • This performance is absolutely brilliant!

  • awesome!

  • love this

  • ryan adams and neal casal, just great....

  • fantstic hes one of my fave of all time

  • not to compare but i think David Grey and Ryan Adams are two of the best singer songwriters of our generation

  • beautiful. just perfect.

  • Neil Young? What does he have to do with Ryan Adams? Two different artists, doing two different things. To compare them is useless and pretentious.

  • yeah neil youngs still really classy...esp his song "lets impeach the president"

  • His voice. *____*

  • Best fucking song ever

  • Great version. Ryan is perhaps my favorite singer-songwriter of the last ten years. I love his work with the Cardinals especially.

  • they play this song everyday where i work, i use to not like it, but after really litsening too it a while back it seems pretty good, and i like the way it flows

  • i got a really good heart i love this song

  • Lord, I miss that girl

On the day we met the sun was shining down

    Down on the valley

    Riddled with horses running

    Crushing them with flowers

I would have picked for her

On the day she was born

She runs through my veins like a long black river

And rattles my cage like a thunderstorm

Oh my soul............i miss you Kris*

  • When you're walking down town

Do you wish I was there?

Do you wish it was me?

    With the windows clear

    And the mannequins eyes

Do they all look like mine?

    You know you could

    I wish you would

    Come pick me up...

  • I love this version of this. He's incredible.

  • This song is on the TrueBlood soundtrack...great show, great song.

  • i love Ryan Adams!!!!♥♥♥♥♥♥LOVE!!!!♥

  • omg great sound quality

  • Great song. The cd is worth picking up if you dont have it.

  • Understatement of the year. Get all his CD's NOW. He's a genius. Up there with Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

  • Only they two and bruce are to his level, he is one of four magnificent ones

  • Better voice than Dylan, that's for sure. Ha and I totally agree with getting all his CD's. He's amazing

  • Absolutely.

  • definitely.ryan and neal were great together.

  • You know, I haven't heard one Ryan Adams song I didn't LOVE. This guy is a pure genius. His music touches so many people in that place so vulnerable. That place that we all need to awaken to.

  • @kirk7524875248 ,You can hear this song in the restaurant scene on the movie Hancock.

  • @kirk7524875248 the penis?

  • "It takes two when it used to take two" Great song.

  • This song is so good

  • no one in the history of rock n roll has ever written better love songs than ryan adams.

  • You are right on with this one! He is under-rated on the whole, but specifically as a love song artist. He is at heart a country singer/writer. We should agknowledge him for his accomplishments in writing for a "dead" genre!

  • dead?

  • agknowledge!!?!! ROFLOL

  • ryan adams is so CUTE!!omg i cant believe he married mandy moore!ugh!

  • omg he did?!

  • I really like this. I melt.

    F**K Im weak.

  • Its obvious...I mean, who calls himself a "clever pop professor"?

Only boring people with not much to do!

  • then you outta go back to school friend.

  • How many times has he been on Letterman?

  • Countless times. First as just Ryan Adams, then as Ryan Adams and the Cardinals.

Soon he'll be saying, " He looks like Adams I know, but he actually isn't."

  • the man is a star...a class act....defo up there in the top 3 singer/songwriter/ muso EVER! nuf said

  • not ever....I love him but...not ever...

  • I didn't know Andy Dick played slide guitar!

  • AHAHAHAHAHA!

  • hahah jon graboff does kinda look like andy from this angle huh, haha

  • hahaha, nice. Good spot. That's crackin' me up

  • Last Night

  • I'll get to see him in Nashville on the 15th....never seem him live before & I can't wait!

  • I'm going to see him in Memphis on the 18th. I can't wait!

  • I love him so much! He's amazitng. I really wanna go to one of his concerts! Please GOD! :] I have a feeling I'm gonna marry him! Lol. (If things don't work with him and Mandy Moore.)

  • too bad they r engaged

  • too bad neonnovember, they got marries tuesday lol

  • Aboslutely amazing!!!

Too bad he's on an indefinite break from music. He'll be back because all true artists need art to survive. He's a true artist!!!

  • Who cares who has better music country wise, i think we can all agree that Ryan Adams is truly one of the best out there worldwide

  • beeautiful!

  • in america use to go to england first lol...they are driven by a lot of pop music...but again the u,k. is not driven by money like ameirca is and has tons of really godo bands that come from their...I will have to think more on the music as I am an actor who is moving to london from america.....I definatly know your actors and I feel films(I have had friends fight me on u,k. film) and theatre is better...the u,k. is so litterary bent their movies are like novels and an actors jobs is to create

  • My bands new single is on youtube (The Beronics -My,oh,My), Please spare 3 minutes to give it a listen.Thanx

  • Saw him open for Oasis at the Patriot Center this Past Dec. Really enjoyed his set.

  • I wonder if Letterman has ever interviewed Ryan on the show. That would be sweet!

  • "My money's no good when I'm up to no good. No good ever comes from it, honest."

    Great line! And so true.

  • f***ing awesome songwriter. Like nothing we have now in UK

  • Ryan is one of the best songwriter today, especially during the last 2-3 years.

  • Maybe not the best, but one of the best. Don't forget that there are Bob Dylan and Paul Simon as well, even if their career isn't that successfull in the present.

  • the u.k. is superior for music and film and television to america......this is coming from an american...america has its stound outs but its industry is driven towards product and money...jesus christ you have muse!!!!!

  • mate, if Ryan Adams and Muse had a SONGWRITING competition Adams would win for sure, Muse are good but Adams writes better songs, mainstream Music in the UK is totaly shit!

  • wierd I can't find my previous post.......anyway I agree with the way muse plays...it doesn't focus on song writing they are an arena explosian not an intimate club band that connects with lyrics and mood.....but matthew bellamy does focus outiside of himself and has developed a point of view about the world and his music tends to reflect that and can be uplifting...again I disagree about uk music...yes there is a pop element in the uk..I remmeber now that boybands that couldn;t make it in

  • Merely your opinion. I respect it but I sure as hell don't agree!!!!!!!!!

  • (Cartesiantheater)

You miss the point. Music isn't so 'black & white'. Sure, he's no Dylan, Young or Springsteen but all music has its place and merit. To seemingly belittle it with comments like 'He creates a mood, this is a talent of his' and 'he can draw you into (to) his sadness' are surely just cheap-shots loaded with blank bullets of empty words. Its hardly 'relevant' music these days after all! I mean he's not exactly 'hip' anymore!!

    Yours faithfully, President-Flamer-elect(!)

  • Ok. Like I said I respect your opinion. I THINK HE'S GREAT AND I LOVE HIM AND I THINK HE'S ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGWRITERS EVER AND THAT'S MY OPINION! I didn't miss any point.

  • young springsteen but with more country

  • Brilliant!!! A song for our times in more ways than one!
