  • Already a huge Byrds fan, I bought "Younger Than Yesterday" in April of 1967. I was still possessed by McGuinn's 12 string sound and the Miles Davis---John Coltrane stuff he was doing on "Eight Miles High" was like nothing anyone else was doing. It was even, IMO, beyond Sgt. Pepper. Then I heard this song and "The Girl Who Had No Name" and everything changed again. The Bakersfield sound, although still in it's infancy, had been redefined.

  • This sounds like Chris is singing lead.

  • Clarence White on guitar what a player..Hillman is way under rated a true pioneer musician for the Americas and beyond.

  • THIS IS GREAT!

  • This is an under-appreciated Byrds song. Great talent, Chris Hillman.

  • This was the first song the late, great Clarence White played on with The Byrds.

  • Chris Hillman started as a composer with a great song. Great LP too.

  • Great tune. Sometimes considered the 1st country rock ever written. But can be debated? McGuinn's Mr Spaceman, the Everly's Gone Gone Gone or Buffalo's Go & Say Goodbye (influenced by Chris) were earlier. Anyway great tune.

  • @devlaeminck

Listen to Nashville West (which featured a young Clarence White) - I'd say that was some of the first country-rock ... I've got some Nashville West in my uploads - great stuff!

  • Oh yeah definitely. I know the (later) Byrds' version of Nashville West. It's definitely country rock and very innovative. But this song by Chris is earlier, isn't it?

  • Nashville West was Clarence White, Gene Parsons, Gib Guibeau and Wayne Moore - that band played in 1967.

The Byrds "Younger Than Yesterday" was also released in 1967 - so its close - but I'd say Clarence was a huge innovator and ahead of the game.

  • OK. Sorry I thought you meant the song Nashville West and not the band. :)

  • @devlaeminck Gene clark and john sebastian did country rock before this

  • @spacepatrolman
