No, you can always use automatic, but I have never liked it. I have a lot more control over the car with a manual. And it's not really that hard with this car, either. It is just really fast. :)
Yes, you have to complete all of the C, B, A, and S class races. You don't have to get gold, just place at least third. Once you get a trophy on each race, you can by the car.

Do you have to use manual transmission in the Pro/Expert Races? That'd make using this car a pain.

Indeed, there is nothing like it. I wish that the tuning was a little bit more in-depth, but it is still nothing to scoff at.
