I thought this was better than the crap pop he is playing now, I actually had him hand me his guitar backstage and he was very cool, this was 20 years ago, Now I cant listen to the crap he just plays a solo thru the whole song....
To all the clowns cutting on Santana, that's humility and restraint, a sign of respect for the other guys on stage. He knows his place among these rhythmic monsters and he does his job. If you're looking for a guitar player mindlessly playing over everything, you're in the wrong place. If you don't think the man can keep up, check out his playing with John McLaughlin. This isn't three chords and a dream. It's complicated stuff.
Is the full version available somewhere of this show? This has to be one of my favorite bands of all time... (Miles quintet 67'... VSOP.... Mahavishnu - pre 74'.... Headhunters....Five Peace)
Lot of people on here talking shit on Santana. The man never claimed to be one of the best - he's always given that to Jeff Beck. But I would challenge anyone to find another guitarist who has found and perfected such a unique voice.Furthermore, how many musicians have given as much as he has?!I think his role has primarily been to bring awareness of not only Afro-Latin rhythms and melodies, but to stretch (or play with) the boundaries of music.IMO he's one of the greatest for that alone.
@goryluis Santana sucks !!!!!! are you serious who are you compare to him a joe blow that works 9 to 5 and writes comments online you must not know anything about music obviously or your ears are full of doodoo and I am polite
Whoever shot this video is a numb skull! He keeps the camera on this young congero when the Armando Peraza - an Afro-Cuban master that was a major influence on all contemperary Congeros, whether the know it or not!!
This made my night! Thanks for posting! Now if anyone can tell me name of the piece on the 1972 clip of Tony Williams and Stan Getz , I would be grateful.
nomamesnomamesnomamesnomameeeees! como chingados le hacen para tener tantas percusiones y que se oiga asi suave, parejo y groove? esta con madre el video thxs.
better than the original, where the production and the synth bass sucks. in the original recording the most remarkable thing is the sharp drumming of alphonse mouzon
what a monster solo by the one and only, the great orestes vilato!!in my humble opinion the best timbalero alive.they might be faster players but they don't have the swing or the full comand of the timbal as he does.viva orestes and also the great peraza.
if you like the Santana/Hancock/Wlliams pairing then Santana's "The Swing of Delight" is a must listen. Also featuring Wayne Shorter and Ron Carter (basically Miles' band playing behind Santana). One of my fav carlos efforts.. The Jazz guys push him beyond his normal limits
Man that was tight and smoking hot. Some Legends in the house

Love it when Herbie turns up at the end with a keyboard guitar. And Santana's old skool digital watch!

Aahhh, the Classic Santana guitar sound. Wish Carlos would change his sound tuning on his gear back to this sound. Much clearer and expressful.
