  • JUST MISSED!!! "Four Walls" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 22 weeks in the Top 100 in 1957. There was also another Jim who made the charts with this song in 1957; Jim Lowe reached No. 15 with his version!!!

  • I'm not a country western music fan, but this man's songs make me want to go buy myself a pair of cowboy boots and a 10 gallon hat. Stationed on Okinawa in 1965, I used to watch the Okinawan women swoon over his voice whenever someone played a Jim Reeves song on the jukebox at the enlisted men's club. some of the ladies didn't understand English very well, but his voice made them drift into a fantasy world. He was taken from us so early in his life. He was only 40 when he died in a plane crash.

  • This was my Grandma Yvonne fav song. R.I.P. Grandma.

  • Back when country was country.

  • He had a special technique of whispering right up to the mic, giving him the softest and mellow voice we all love and I for 1 wish he was still with us, RIP Jim, God Bless.

  • i really loved listening to this jim as i grew up.

  • My mom and dad loved this guy. I remember listening to his music growing up as a kid.

  • At 51, Im just starting to appreciate this great singer. I sing some of his tunes now in the Band Im in.

  • What I thought was being silly, singing Jim Reeves songs to my Mom, now brings tears to my eyes when I hear the songs. I miss my Mom still, whose been gone over 22 years. I guess losing Dad last year December and now being parentless makes me sappy during the holidays.

  • Its sad im the only teenager in my entire area that listens to this old, wonderful music.

  • MY MOTHER LOVED YOUR MUSIC. HER NAME IS IVA JO ROBINSON. SHE HAD A SMALL RADIO SHE PUT IN THE WINDOW ABOVE THE SINK. SHE WORKED AND SANG ALL DAY. I MISS HER VERY MUCH.

  • his voice is so peace full

  • i never know jim reeves before but my parents almost every night sing his song when i go to sleep, this song remind me w/ my father at there....:)

  • Don't you think Jim has such a warm, clean-living face! Theres not one bit of guilt written on his face! As for me - my face is full of bags n wrinkles which write sin and debauchery all over it! (even now - Jim rebukes me - him being a good christian man an all)

  • so beautiful....!! oldies are always best.....news songs can never come close to this

  • My brother still sings the old authentic C&W. Way back when, he and his band did a USO tour in Vietnam. The guys, and gals, he sang to loved them. And I, today, still love to hear him sing. His band sang in a place in Columbus, OH call "The Little Nashville". Every once in a while, after a big C&W star would finish their performance, one of the band members from whatever show it was would come by, wait respectfully until he finished singing, and ask to play backup for him. He always said "yes".

  • Jim Reeves breakthrough song, that first highlighted the Nashville sound to the world. Interestingly enough,Reeves picked it the song from some scripts that Chet Atkins had rejected as unfit for singing. At Reeves insistence, he agreed to have it recorded, resulting into Jim Reeves first international country & western hit.

  • God bless all the lovely people who do believe in Heaven, Barry loved you, Jim, R.I.P. to all who also loved your music

  • If I had a choice, I'd have this great man sing any of his songs at my funeral. The sound of his voice would be proof to anyone that heaven exists. K.J. Edmonton.

  • LOL My Dad called into a radio station right after this song was released and asked if they had 4 walls. The DJ thought my dad was playing a prank and said "No but we have a ceiling"

  • any jim reeves song is the best

  • I have yet to find a Jim Reeves song that

    A) Isn't good

    and

    B) I don't like

    : )

  • This was one of my moms favorite songs. This is for you mom. She died June 3

  • @cindyboosful1 sorry to hear that.

  • You are are absolutely right paleblue. Jim Reeves is ...>>SO GOOD... that he is... Mesmerizing.

  • R U sure that's JOLSONS' 4WALLS?

  • His smooth voice is unique - and his songs were it, too !

  • just beautiful

  • I was born in 1954. My mother played Jim almost every night. I got to remember all his songs, word for word. Like Jim my mum has passes on. I will never forget either of them

  • Jim Reeves at his best, one of the best voice in country <3

  • The best voice in country music, ever.

  • Helove28

Sorry for the loss. Please get stronger because that is what counts at the end.

  • Exquisite. Gone to soon! We miss him.

  • Exquisite. Gone to soon!

  • Thank you for posting this! Wonderful to see actual video footage of "Gentelman" Jim Reeves. Truly a "one of a kind" & unique talent. You've MADE my day! :-)

  • LONG LIVE GOOD OLE JIM REEVES !

  • Wow. What a beautiful performance! My grandmother died when I was very small, but one thing I remember about her was telling me that Jim Reeves was her favourite singer, so I always have good associations with Reeves.

  • We need several lives managing to listen to all those talented persons art of music...

    ed

  • So beautiful...like something i would play to my new born baby while he sleeps..

  • An incredible talent. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • oneokieone1@yahoo.com There is a new female singer that has a good sound, Velma King, she sounds just like some of the old time singers. Good country songs too. She wrote herself, I found her by accident on Napster.

  • Music is like food, the less you do it the better it tastes. A lesson that todays musicians need to consider.

  • One question, who the f doesn't like Gene Autry? 15 idiots shouldn't have watched this video

  • This is truely talent.Hard to dublicate.

  • The crisp articulation in older songs delights me. Respect for language is such a rich attribute in a human being.

  • my mother and father played his records all the time, but has a child growing he was part of the family, god bless jim reaves....

  • Ity's a pity they don't make music like this anymore. We don't have real country anymore. Just that pop country dribble

  • We played this song at my husband's memorial service in June.

  • @lovinspoonful77 God Bless your family.

  • What an effortless style - Just like Patsy Cline.... gifted

  • This and "is this me" are my favorite Jim Reeves songs, he had a voice smooth as silk.

  • A classic...

Yes, I agree with paleblue498... so many of the "new country" all sound the same... It is sad...

  • I disagree in a sense paleblue, alot of country music songs have been redone atleast once since the original versions because most songs can be redone but I think jim reeves songs couldn't be redone very easily. it takes alot of talent because theres alot of talent in his vocals.

  • THANKS for posting this! This is may favorite song of his. What an utterly MAGNIFICENT voice the late great Jim Reeves had! A truly unique talent. His premature death in that mid 60's plane crash was one of the great tragedies of American music.

  • I was always a sucker for Jim Reeves voice. Thank you for posting.

  • One of Grampa's favorite songs, though, I woudln't know first hand. He passed away long before I was born. I may make it one of my funeral songs in my will, it is very beautiful.

  • such a great song. i actually mean it when i say i like "all kinds" of music. i don't exclude any genre. not even polka. every genre has a reason and an imprint on history and it all records the emotions of the peoples in it's eras.

  • Thank you for posting this. One of my favorite Jim Reeves tunes. What a unique style he had....no one quite like him in the annals of American music (country or pop). His early death in that tragic plane crash was one of American music's greatest losses. :(

  • One of my many favorites from the famous Jim Reeves.

  • Don't you miss the days when a singer could stand at a microphone and command an audience's attention?...I mean instead of him/her jumping around the stage yelling and screaming...swinging on ropes...smashing guitars or setting them on fire! Oh, and look how nicely they dressed!! As I recall we even held each other when we danced...Shazam!...Bring it back Lord, please bring it back...Tunesmith

  • Hey, @tunesmith09... come to Austin and see Mr Dale Watson. Class and talent still exists! And we do still hold each other when we dance :) ! Cheers!

  • blah

  • So sensitive... beautiful... this song was new for me... THANKS!

    With Love,

    Marilyn

  • Nice, but do yourself a favour and listen to Cold Chisel's four walls. Fantastic

  • when i was a kid back in 1970s my mom play alot jim reeves music and i can hear her singing i miss her she pass away back in 1998 .....

  • A great singer

  • I love Jim Reeves, he was one of a kind with a beautiful voice and style.

  • This is soooo great !!

    Thanx :)

  • FEEL DEPRESSED....?SING ALONG

  • jim reeves hes a god from country miss him along with richie valens big bopper god bless all 3

  • This was my dad's favorite song,

now it represents his casket. :(

  • one fine voice

  • I've been trying to find this song for ages. This made me cry. My Aunt, [well actually very dear friend of the family that was adopted as Aunt], used to sing this all the time, she passed away in September, she was a wonderful singer. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

  • Just wonderful but everything Jim did was wonderful.

    The greatest voice ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • You don't hear the power in his voice on this one, but you hear a subtlety of thought I hadn't heard before. Bravo!

  • The only good new country singer is Jamey Johnson and George strait they still are country

  • or Alan Jackson?

  • oh...talk about feeling it in your gut...his vocals alone are just outstanding the way it can move u....wow!!

  • Beautiful, As Only Jim Knew How...RIP

  • Beautiful, this is the type song that Kevin Skinner (Winner of America's Got Talent) should be singing. I love Kevin's Your Always On My Mind. He is appearing at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas until 12/13/09.

  • All these great country stars had their own unique sound that was instantly recognizable. And today? You can't tell one from the other. Leave the radio on any "New Country" station and it all sounds the same, song after song. It's really sad. The true country western music is long gone. Thank God for records and videos so we can can still listen to REAL country music...

  • And I'll bet that the people who listen to Ken Chesney and Dierks Bentley would tell you that they can't tell Jim Reeves from Ray Price.

  • And it wouldn't surprise me, since this generation has been weaned on voice filters, synthesizers, a general lowering of musical standards and has all the musical discernment of cabbages...

  • @paleblue498 How true. And to think that none would make the top 500 on todays American Idol. Instead of being able to sing today, one must be able to scream as loud as possible in a manner that is not understandable.

  • @paleblue498 I have said this I don't know how many time, that these country stars today sound all the same, no distinct style. Country music in my opinion died back in the 80's.

  • @paleblue498 I have said this many times, these country stars of today are pop, and there is no distinct style that makes them different. Country music in my opinion died in the 80's.

  • @paleblue498 I agree with you 100%. Merle Hagard may be the last of the great old country singers (and some might add Willie Nelson). I've said it before, but what a loss 1963/1964 must have been to the country & western community and their fans with, first, the passing of Mrs. Patsy Cline then, mid-year, of Jim Reeves. How do you replace those two people and their heart-dropping music? What a loss...

  • @paleblue498 Not only does this ring true in counrty music, but other forms as well. Talent, true talent, is very much a thing of the past.

  • @paleblue498

I second that emotion! I find it extremely hard to tell these new country artists apart! The music all sounds so generic (at least most of it does)! And to my ears, most of it is more akin to "soft rock" or pop than what one could call clasically "country". I'd much rather listen to the the great country stars of yesteryear than most of the so-called "country" performers of of today.

  • new country blows

  • I am not saying that, what I am trying to say is the songs are to fast and don't tell a story, I am sure all the new stars and old are good, just not putting out this kind of music, but to each his or her own. Myself just don't like the new country by any of them. That is just me.

  • Shame there is no true country music anymore. I think the last country song was by George no show Jones, " He stop loving her today" that was sometime ago. It's all rock wantabees. Why call them self country.

  • You don't think Reba and Vince Gill are real country?

  • Or Mark Chesnutt and Patty Loveless?

  • Very, very beautiful!

    5/*****

  • Wonderful song..Wonderful singer.. Loved almost everyone of his songs. Thanks for posting.

  • I appreciate all the wonderful love that each and everyone of you have posted, ....thank God America still has some redeeming values.....what a beautiful voice

  • I read the comments you made on the day of your father's funeral. I hope that the intervening month, small time though it is, has started to ease the pain of your loss. My dad, who died 22 years ago, was a pianist and a violinist, whenever I hear

certain tunes, I think of dad. Dad's leaving this liv e was in it's time, and he passing years have given me acceptance, and the pain is replaced by the warmth of his memory.

May that come soon to you.

    Condolences from George in Scotland

  • Love to see him personally singing. great video.. What was it taken from??

  • I'm 27 and i love Jim Reeves!!

  • No fancy strings, just a simple country arrangement and that faboulous voice! What more could you ask for? Thanks for sharing this gem!

  • great!

  • lol correct me if im wrong but his voice is wat they call a nashville polatician and is that a stratocaster that the guy in the beggining is playin

  • he has an amazingly enchanting voice. one of my faves.

  • "a touch of velvet" says it all! Im a HUGE fan

  • great, gentlemanly spirit.

  • Jim Reeves could sing the yellow pages of the phone book. Pure and velvety. His songs will live on forever.

  • DId everyone know that Jim Reeves here was a baseball pro, and his just before his first season started with the cardinals as the pitcher, he suffered a leg injury.. so he thought he'd try his hand at singing.

  • That's the thing that's almost intimidating about Jim. Many people aspire to be a singer for their whole life, have a backup plan just in case things don't work out, but when they achieve their dream, are nowhere near as good as people like Jim. For him, however, singing WAS the backup plan. This guy is amazing. Enough said.

  • I hate to sound like a shi t-head...but thank god for baseball injuries...that voice annot be replaced....platinum magic

  • I absolutely love Gentlmen Jim's music!!!!!!

  • Jim Reeves was my dad 's favorite country singer.. as he was mine. Such a soft and tender voice.. He will always be sadly missed. Den

  • Jim. The best ever, hands down.

  • they say the velvet voice of jim reeves , well thats what he had

  • "The Gentleman" Jim Reeves. Wonderful in all that he did.

  • smooth as silk. poetry...pure poetry.

  • do u no that jim reeves was the pilot of his plane that crashed and he was trained by the same guy who trained patsy clines pilot creepy but country music is like that johnny horton and hank williams sr married to the same women at there death and johnny horton died on the same highway the night he found out hank williams died an also they were both in caddies and J.C. and June Carter had a song were she said she would go first but thats country music for ya

  • This is a great video and version of this beautiful song

  • Although it is difficult to pick a Jim Reeves song that is my favorite this one is high on the list. Thanks for posting it.

  • i think jim singing danny boy is great! you will never hear that great song, sang better than when jim is singing it!

  • Agreed. I like Johnny Cash singing it too, but Jim is better from a technical standpoint (pitch, phrasing, range, etc).

  • Jim Reeves was SUPER. I probably had 10 of his albums in the early 60's in college. Like Patsy Cline, taken before their time.

  • My favorite Jim Reeves song! Thanks for posting this! :c)

  • Great song by a master singer. Thank you for posting this. Jim is the best. I have responded with my version - hope you like it! - Kenny Gee

  • Jim Reeves and his wife Mary had no children.

  • its beautiful!!!!

  • I love all of Jim Reeves songs, never get tired of his beautiful voice.

  • Such a beautiful voice!

    Great Classic:)

  • this is the original version

  • very nice!!! thanks!

  • see you in heaven jim,we can have a good ,singalong.

  • he can sing nice voice

  • I'LL NEVER FORGET THIS LEGEND!

  • His voice has never been duplicated. Some have come close, but he has it 100%

  • I must have listened to Jim Reeves when I was very young because I vividly remember in third grade, as they were putting newspaper down on the table for a class party, I saw an article that he had died. I was devastated. I still can't get enough of his music. Just Beautiful. Catches your heart.

  • this man could sing the alphabet and make it sound beautiful. i just love jim's velvet voice. i always say it could melt an iceberg. he was a top man
