You know, if they actually re-edited this film without the appearance of the special effects hand aka 'the beast with five fingers', this story would work almost perfectly as a psychological thriller...well almost
Damn fool was going out of his mind to begin with otherwise he wouldn't have lost his hand to begin with! First time seeing this movie and I bet it gets better!
The way he loose hes hand is so awesome, and the fact he is an artist make it so shocking.10 minutes of movie and hes life is completly destroyed.Great movie.
Caine did go through a period of odd looks in his middle age (and luckily grew into his elderly statesman look he now enjoys). This Prince Valiant hair seen here has to be hisabsolute worst period ever.
@llothar68 There's nothing wrong with that though. DePalma will probably always be remembered for 'Carrie', Hitchcock for 'Psycho' and Donner for 'The Omen'. Horror films are so often looked down on by the cognescenti of entertainment and IMO it is unfair and unwarranted.
I saw this movie on cable over a year ago. It's really good. I like the fact that the main character is a cartoonist. I also love the last frame of the movie--it's haunting.
@sliderALT Its a shame he ends up in the hospital while his cheating slut of a wife stays with her poor brainwashed kid and her vegetarian sissy new bf. But then again he does escape doesnt he? Caine i mean maybe he goes after her
