I was on this train last week. There is a condensation issue with a few cars and every time the train slows down (during cold weather) the roof leaks cold water on your face. When I brought my concern forward to the the attendant on the train he laughed in front of several others and said: "yeah, it's been like that for five years now. It's an engineering flaw that can't be fixed". I've been telling everyone whenever possible to avoid Via-Rail!
@DeconAtlantic. I use VIA Rail several times a week in the corridor. I occasionally take the Ocean and other services as well. I have never heard or experienced that problem. Contact VIA Customer service about the problem.
@PatrickTomaszewski10 I was travelling on car 4, through a light snow storm on the side of the train which as the two seats side-by-side. I had the window-seat on the other side of the lavatory. When water first leaked onto us (3 customers), we suspected leaking pipes. As mentioned in my prior statement Via-Rail attendants laughed it off (twice) to make light of the situation because there's nothing that can be done about it. Since you travel this train often, avoid seats near the lavatory.
Although I'm a big fan of the classic Budd cars, I must admit that this looks very nice! Are these the Europeon styled cars that sit low on the track?
I have done this trip a few times to Halifax. The scenery is nice, especially along the St. Lawrence Seaway and Nova Scotia. Checkout my other vidoes of this trip. Have a safe trip.
@Railfan19960 Indeed it's the best car. During the night, they actually allow you to sleep on the ''couch'' assuming there's no one sitting on where you are. Pretty good for Economy class. Also. It's a great place to just hang out and watch the scenery!
@Muscle9teen. My camera microphone is very sensitive and picks up sounds very well. If you watch all my videos, in real life, its alot quieter than what the sound is on the video. I have the mic adjusted all the way.
Great preview man, though I wonder who would pay for the luxurious cars with the tables and all, yet not take a much faster plane for slightly more...
Cool Video! I will be on the Ocean this Sunday to Truro Nova Scotia. I reserved on the Stainless Steel cars though with upper and lower births.Got a great price on an upper for the trip! Too bad the Rennaissance cars dont have single rooms or births. Its too expensive to get a room for two when travelling alone!
If you book early and right, you can get a cabin very reasonable especially on the Renaissance train. The cost for a cabin for 1 person is only 15% more.
I always travel in VIA 1 or sleeping class. Meals are included if you are traveling in Sleeping Touring/ Easterly class. The Dome car is available to Easterly class passengers.
Nice tour! I remember when I went from Montreal to Moncton, I was in one of the single seats on the left. I went to the bar car a few times for drinks and a sub. Never went to the dining car, or the dome car at the end, which is a real shame...
Did you have a comfort class ticket? If so, was it complimentary? I was wondering that when I woke up in the morning, but I didn't have enough money if it wasn't complimentary, and I didn't feel like checking. So I went hungry until 1pm when I got off the train in Moncton!
I had a comfort class ticket. And if by complimentary you mean it's free (sorry, I'm not an english speaker by nature) then no. You still have to pay. However, the food there, while not awesome is still less expencive than most restaurant.
COOL!!!

Train cars are empty, how do VIA survive ???
alvima1986 1 year ago
@alvima1986 VIA doesn't have to worry too much about making a buck. It's a crown corporation funded by the government, with our tax dollars...

I like the interior of these cars. Amtrak should get cars like this.

From what I understand the Renaissance Cars will be retired in the next few years. Hopefully the Ocean will return to the Stainless steel cars.

@shnorth888 as if. if dat were the case via would go bankrupt from all the money wasted on these coaches
